After nasty divorce... what to do with your rings?

Sadly, I didn't get the opportunity to shove my rings down my exes throat (LOL! ;) ) and now have a beautiful engagement ring collecting dust.

What have you all done with yours?

Sold it. Spent the money on nothing special so it just ... went and no lingering reminder or thing lurking about.

Cricrichan · 31/01/2018 10:20

I'm going to sell mine at some point. It's a shame as I really like it!

RoseyOldCrow · 31/01/2018 10:20

My ex stole mine from my bedside drawer, when we were separated but still living in the marital home (sep rooms).
I was furious.
He said that he paid for it & wanted it back!
Have to say that I didn't feel any sympathy for him when it was stolen from his new flat a few weeks later!

trevortrevorslattery · 31/01/2018 10:23

I've heard of people having them remodelled into a divorce ring, appropriately re-sized to fit their middle finger (as in "fuck you") Smile

Bellamuerte · 31/01/2018 10:34

Keep them and wear them! At the end of the day they're just pretty rocks. If I got divorced they'd have to pry my diamonds from my cold dead hands...

helenoftroyville · 31/01/2018 10:41

I like the idea of have by it resized for your middle finger 🖕🏼

Isadora2007 · 31/01/2018 10:43

I gave mine back. Part of me wishes I had just sold them, but I also was pretty definite about being true to myself and being the decent person (at least one of us was)...

Cupoteap · 31/01/2018 10:45

I nothing yet...do kids wants their parents rings when they grow up if they have been divorced since they were little?

Blobby10 · 31/01/2018 10:46

My divorce was amicable and my engagement ring is very pretty but it wont fit on my right ring finger as my knuckle is slightly bigger than on my left! My 'eternity' (ha ha ha) ring works with the engagement ring so have to wear them together - might get them both resized as I would like to wear pretty rings at some point!

QuiteLikely5 · 31/01/2018 10:47

I’d keep it if you like it!

JJPP123 · 31/01/2018 10:50

Well the Duchess of Cambridge wears her MILs engagement ring despite it originally coming from a famously unhappy marriage. I don't think my children would view my rings as fondly if their father and I dicroced. A lot of the sentiment is gone really. Id sell them.

MargoLovebutter · 31/01/2018 10:52

I had my wedding ring and some other bits and bobs that were gold, melted down into another ring.

I wear the eternity ring on the other hand, as I worked hard for to have the DC and I'm keeping my engagement ring as a rainy day policy, as it is worth a fair bit!

Joysmum · 31/01/2018 10:54

Give them to your kids if they were a product of that marriage.

Ineedhelp12 · 31/01/2018 10:59

I am currently having this problem with my engagement ring. Does anyone know a good place to sell it for a decent price?

ToucanPlayAtThatGame · 31/01/2018 11:03

Exh took my engagement ring as "he paid for it", so I took his wedding ring back as I had paid for both our we'd rings! Took them to The Money Shop, and bought a new TV in Cash Converters!

ThriceUponATime · 31/01/2018 11:07

Well the Duchess of Cambridge wears her MILs engagement ring despite it originally coming from a famously unhappy marriage. I've always thought that was a bit odd.

My mum had hers broken down, used the diamonds for a nice pair of earrings!

Mischa123 · 31/01/2018 11:27

A friend has had her wedding and engagement ring melted down and made into a new ring for her middle finger!

UtterlyRainbowed · 31/01/2018 11:32

I left my engagement ring when I moved out. He gave it back to me because it was mine. So, I still have it and will probably eventually wear it on my right hand as a nice ring. It was sapphire not diamond though

chatwoo · 31/01/2018 11:38

Use the stones in a new piece of jewellery?

LemonShark · 31/01/2018 11:40

Yeah. My parents divorced when I was twelve and my mum gave me her wedding ring. She died and I had it resized to fit my little finger so I could keep her ring with me always. It didn't matter to me it was a ring from a divorce at all, and it wasn't so much that it was from the marriage of my parents. It's nice to have something of your parent to wear when you get older and they die.

Myddognearlyatethedeliveryman · 31/01/2018 11:44

I sold mine and paid for a girls night out with my friend!

Kit2015 · 31/01/2018 12:40

I kept my wedding ring as it was originally my dm eternity ring. My engagement ring (who's was really cheap and worth nothing) I gave to my daughter and she uses it for dress up.

Billericayduckie · 31/01/2018 13:19

I wear my engagement ring on my right hand. Despite messy divorce, it’s too beautiful not to wear. I chose it, so maybe there’s less sentiment than if Ex had chosen and proposed with it?

I might get it remodelled one day if I can afford to do so. Would only get a fraction of its value if sold, so unless I’m completely destitute I won’t sell it.

Pleasebeafleabite · 31/01/2018 13:23

Not worth selling my diamond solitaire - the resale value is about a fifth of the valuation

I will give it to my dd on her engagement and her dfiance can have it reset with her choice of setting

It is a beautiful stone

Hardwickwhite · 31/01/2018 13:23

DM passed them on to us when she died. DSis got her eternity ring, DB her wedding ring and I got her engagement ring. I'd love to wear it (my parents did love each other once) but it is too fragile sadly. There is an inscription inside too that I would lose if I had the band remade.
