Please Explain This Message To Me (Online Dating)

ToeInTheWaterSlowly · 08/06/2017 10:11

I have recently started Online Dating. My profile is short and has nice attractive fun photos. There is a joke about enjoying procrastination. It is an unobjectionable profile.

I got this first message from a man (no previous contact):

"As if women aren't loony enough with their spaghetti wired brains and being congenitally mercurial, you have added more layers of fruit loop to the mix - Extraordinary!!!

[Something rude about my Username]

So you procrastinate whilst thinking of proscrastination? The thief of time -what a waste!

You sound a barrel of laughs and trying to find a bloke to match will be as useless as trying to find the Grail or Lord Lucan!!!

Give it up!!!"

Why would someone bother to type all this out and send it to a stranger if that was their view? Why?

I mean I fully understand that people have individual tastes which is fine - if you aren't interested, then move along. Why go out of your way to be nasty and hurtful?

It can't be "negging" because it is too unpleasant and not in the negging style. It's just pointless abuse. I'm obv not going to reply but why do it? No one would respond to that would they?

I know it's a random stranger on the internet but it has really upset me for some reason. It has really got to me. Sad.

I think I would laugh at how much effort he put into that message to send onto a complete stranger. The message is a little try hard, he's trying too sound witty and clever but sounds a complete nob jockey.

luminousnature · 08/06/2017 10:17

How rude. They sound like a person who has been hurt a lot in the past or been frustrated by women, so your profile might have triggered something in him and he's projecting onto you.

I know it's difficult when someone types something like that, but just try and ignore him. His opinion isn't worth squat. Don't let it ruin your day.

Iloveyouthismuch · 08/06/2017 10:20

Delete it and ignore. You should know from being on here that some folk just like to shit on other people. He or she will be looking for a response - don't do it. Good luck with the search. View I am a master procrastinator.

IfNot · 08/06/2017 10:22

No I think it is an attempt at negging. He wants a response. Don't give him one. Block and ignore.
And then keep going! I dated lots online and eventually met my gorgeous and kind dp Smile
Spend no time whatsoever thinking about this sorry little tosser. Flowers

KungFuEric · 08/06/2017 10:23

He probably thinks he's negging you, trying to get a reaction.

I often hear mn complaining that they send polite messages and get no response, so he probably thinks he's trying a new approach.

I hope you didn't reply and don't give it too much headspace.

ToeInTheWaterSlowly · 08/06/2017 10:24

I get that the purpose is to upset me (which it did) and provoke a response - but surely no one would respond to that? What is there to say?

OP posts:
cakecakecheese · 08/06/2017 10:27

He's trying to sound clever and being offensive thinks he'll get your attention. Perhaps he thinks it's 'banter.'

I'd be tempted to come back with something like 'that's a bit rich coming from a pseudo-intellectual moron like yourself but rather than genuflecting to your Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness, I'm going to do something fun. Toodles'.

TheNaze73 · 08/06/2017 10:30

Just ignore it

wotabastard · 08/06/2017 10:31

What a dickhead. He really hates himself, huh? Sad

@cakecakecheese Grin

ToeInTheWaterSlowly · 08/06/2017 10:32

CakeCakeCheese

I am tempted to tell him to fuck right off (He looks like an ugly version of Richard O'Brien - remember that 100% bald guy who used to present the crystal maze. I would never be interested in someone that unattractive). But I just wouldn't do it as it is a waste of time.

I think it was the end bit about "Give it up"/Lord Lucan etc that upset me really. It's irrational as he is nothing to me I know but I think I'm feeling OLD vulnerable.

OP posts:
LooksBetterWithAFilter · 08/06/2017 10:36

When I was OLD shit like this never failed to amaze me. There was one guy who said on his profile that he hated supercilious people. He messsged me at one point and asked what I did for a living. At the time I was on a sabbatical and he told me that sounded supercilious Hmm the irony of using a wanky word to put me down was not lost. I reminded myself it was probably the only big word he knew and blocked the supercilious wanker.

Your message sounds the same. He's negged you in the wankiest way possible.

ToeInTheWaterSlowly · 08/06/2017 10:42

He's also shown himself to be not very bright either because the rudeness about my username indicates his lack of education.

My username is an allusion to a historic figure. The equivalent of a say calling yourself (this isn't my username by as an example) Boudica and the response being "WTAF is that username? Why would you call yourself after a dick sounding name?" - showing he has no idea who the historical figure is. It isn't obscure either - would be known to amy person with a reasonably good level of general education or interest in general knowledge.

He has shown himself to be not the brightest bulb in the store too.

OP posts:
luminousnature · 08/06/2017 10:44

He has got a rise out of you which is he wanted by sending that message. I would just ignore him, he is not worth the energy or attention.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 08/06/2017 10:44

I got pointless messages like this a lot when I was online dating. I can't believe people can be bothered typing that kind of nasty rubbish.
I would reply saying "i now know why you're single, you're an arsehole". Then block and report.

And DO NOT take it personally. People are dicks. Just be glad you didn't waste your time or money going on a date with him before you found out.

ToeInTheWaterSlowly · 08/06/2017 10:44

LooksBetter

How is being on a sabbatical supercilious????? He obviously didn't know what either word meant!

OLD is full of weirdos and unpleasant ones too.

I think it's not for me I'm too nice and not thick skinned enough.

OP posts:
MingeFog · 08/06/2017 10:59

Screenshot his messsage first. He's a negger who wants a response. My preference - "That's a real cool story bro, do you have time to tell it again?"
Then block the guy, and send the screenshot to the site with a complaint.

Of course, you could just block and delete, but I like to be petty and dig back (not sensible or mature, I know).

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 08/06/2017 11:14

Delete and block and don't respond. He sounds a bitter individual who enjoys trolling people and getting a reaction. I'd bet he does it to loads of women online.

Report to dating site if you're able to and try not to take it personally.

HeddaGarbled · 08/06/2017 11:18

I think you should report him. The moderators may not do anything but it's possible he could get a warning or even be banned. Then no one else will have to put up with his nastiness. Git.

InigoTaran · 08/06/2017 11:24

There are lots of nasty bitter men on OLD who think women are 'up themselves' and want to put us down . I got one once that just said 'tits'! Shock

Don't take it personally, I'm sure you're lovely. I wouldn't reply, he just wants a rise from you. Block and delete!

Littlereddevil3 · 08/06/2017 11:24

He sounds as if he was trying to get your attention by being funny and original..... Personally I'd give it a miss though.

noenemee · 08/06/2017 11:25

Bless you, he's too stupid and unpleasant to let him upset you. He's obviously not spending his time arranging dates with all his admirers is he, or he wouldn't have time for such idiocy.

For you Wine Flowers

livefornaps · 08/06/2017 11:30

Tell him "apologies for not getting back to you sooner, I just hadn't got around to doing it"

And yeah report that shit

Gingermare2 · 08/06/2017 11:33

Wouldn't be an ex would it?
Block and continue 😉

CatsAndCandles · 08/06/2017 11:35

OP, it means he's an arsehole. Sadly, there are quite a few about. Block him.

Gingermare2 · 08/06/2017 11:36

Plus he's probably sent a similar message to everyone on the site.
I'm thinking he lives with his mum, Jeremy Kyle hasn't long finished, he's bored.
