New BF lying about his age!

FreshFigs · 29/05/2017 10:20

I met someone on OLD about three months ago. On his profile it gave his age as 48. I've always thought that he looks slightly older. He looks after himself though, eats well, excercises etc. But a few conversations have made me suspicious.

Anyway... I looked him up on 192 and it gives his age as 55 - 59 !!!!

Obviously it's just a number, 192 isn't always accurate. But it's the lie that bothers me. I'm wondering when / if he's going to amit to it.

192 is more likely to be accurate, what a shame BF is so 'forgetful'!

There's a lot of this on OLD and IIWM I would forgive this one. It's an inaccuracy, not an outright lie. What's more important for you is that he is a genuine guy.

CryptoFascist · 29/05/2017 10:34

Offer to book flights for somewhere and ask for his passport

RockyBird · 29/05/2017 10:34

I thought everyone lied about their age on OLD sites.

FreshFigs · 29/05/2017 10:37

I don't lie about anything. I'm weird like that...

It doesn't matter and he's a good 'un. I'm just wondering when / if / how he will fess up.

It's his 49th (ahem) Birthday in August, so maybe I should buy him a '50-something' card? Christ.... it could actually be his 60th 😳

My BF lies about her age on dating websites and in the photo she posts she is in her early 20s! She always deducts 10 years from her actual age.

Personally I feel if you lie about your age you might lie about other stuff too?

Ellisandra · 29/05/2017 10:51

Can't believe people are saying book a flight to see his passport!

Aak him. "So, I know lots of people lie on OLD about their age - are you 48?"

FWIW I didn't lie about mine but used the same profile aged 38 as I did aged 40 and got LOADS more responses first time. Simply, people search age bands.

I met someone quickly, but honestly if I went on again I would put 39 but I would either put in my profile that I was 42 and trying not to restrict by searches - or I'd tell people as soon as we got to the second or third message.

Wouldn't bother me at all with your BF as long as he fessed to it as soon as you asked.

Polarbearflavour · 29/05/2017 10:54

My current beau has knocked a year off his age? I saw his passport. He's going to be 33 this year...not 32!

ImperialBlether · 29/05/2017 11:00

You could ask him what year he left school, something like that. If he's not prepared, he might come out with the truth!

Ellisandra · 29/05/2017 11:04

Again, why try to trick it out of him?
Just ASK.

user1495832265 · 29/05/2017 11:10

192 shows a friend of mine as being 40-44. He's 51. I don't know why it's incorrect but clearly it can be incorrect.
Just ask him outright.

FreshFigs · 29/05/2017 11:13

Imperial - that's exactly how I sussed it was a porkie pie...

He freezes up at date-specific questions, says he can't remember and looks slightly rabbit in headlights 😂 & I said the other day that we are 'children of the 70s' and he looked blank (60s to you matey!).

I'm actually slightly amused. Wondering how he's going to get himself out of this one...

Maudlinmaud · 29/05/2017 11:18

Grin could he have forgotten his age. Sometimes I have to think really hard about it and maths are not my strong point.

CryptoFascist · 29/05/2017 12:22

Was only a tongue in cheek comment about the passport!
If he's going to lie about his age then I would wonder what else he lies about? Plus it's rather vain isn't it?

IonaNE · 29/05/2017 12:35

No, not everyone lies on OLD sites. OP, I'd be careful.

merville · 29/05/2017 12:35

This may not be relevant to this man, but I got into a relationship with an older man who lied about his age at the start (he was about 45 and said he was 42, at the time I wondered what the point of lying about such a relatively small no. of years). I was 34/35 at the time for context. He fessed up about a month into the relationship.

But looking back it was the first sign of the insecurity, and self-delusion/dishonesty that helped disintegrate the relationship over a year and a bit.

mmchocolate · 29/05/2017 12:36

Out of interest would you have messaged/met him if he had said what you think to be his real age on his profile?

Brogadoccio · 29/05/2017 12:36

I've been in this situation except that he admitted it early on.

He was 53 and had said he was 48, so there was a 7 year age gap between us when I'd expected to meet a man two years older than me. I forgave it because he looked good for his age and because 7 years is just about within my tolerable age gap iyswim, HOWEVER I will say that towards the end his behaviour was self-serving, cowardly and shabby and entirely in keeping with what you'd expect from a man who deducted a whopping five years off his age.

Brogadoccio · 29/05/2017 12:38

In contrast, I met a man early February and he'd been truthful on his profile. We went out for a short while (no chemistry) and he ended it with honestly and consideration.

Hth

mmchocolate · 29/05/2017 12:38

Because we live in a youth obsessed culture.

Msqueen33 · 29/05/2017 12:43

I'd ask him straight out. Or be subtle and start a conversation about how you respect honestly more than anything. Seems silly to lie but maybe he's found he doesn't get any interest otherwise.

OutToGetYou · 29/05/2017 12:43

I say I'm older so people can tell me I look good for my age....

No really, I don't approve of any lying. I'd be cross if he told me during messaging but if it wasn't until after meeting I'd dump him off.

user1486956786 · 29/05/2017 12:44

Oh I'd just enjoy knowing the secret and get humour out of it as you go. One day one of you will confess Grin

With OLD don't you set age ranges? Maybe he just didn't want to miss the search range for women who set their range to 40s .

lynmilne65 · 29/05/2017 12:45

What is this OLD ??
Glyn

Bant · 29/05/2017 12:48

I went on a date with a woman who couldn't believe I'd told the truth about my age. She'd wiped 5 years off hers, so was 41 instead of 36, and couldn't believe I was actually 39 as I'd said, she'd assumed I was mid 40s..

She actually asked for proof, so I showed my driving licence :)

No second date for her...

loveyoutothemoon · 29/05/2017 12:50

I'd be wondering what else he could lie about!
