I have a new man in my life, allebloodyluyah. We get along fab, gonna dtd soon but...... I don't think he brushes his teeth! Aghhh can't believe I had to write that! How the hell do I get him to clean his fecking teeth? Yeah I know what you're thinking, you mean you've snogged that grotty mouth? Blush It's not really awful but there's room for improvement. I can't tell him without embarrassment on both sides. What am I going to do? He's very loving & attentive, it's a small thing in the scheme of things but I need it doing. Help me.

I often refuse to kiss my DP in the morning till I've brushed my teeth. You could try that one, too. 'We both need to brush our teeth.'

He might brush his teeth but...

He might not do them throughly and brush them for long enough

He may need dental work

He may not brush his tongue

He may drink alot of tea and coffee

Your going to have to tell him, i know its awkward but your just going to have to do it

Buy him a cheap electric toothbrush for Christmas, if you can wait that long, I strongly doubt it's only his teeth he lacks in personal hygiene. suggest a shower together before dtd.

That's what I was thinking gold - if the teeth are minging, I would not be venturing south of there either.

I had this problem with a long term bf.

Early on I used to suggest very politely (its all in the tone of voice and approach) that "can I suggest a quick tooth clean?"

Later on (he really was a lovely bloke in other ways and his hygiene otherwise was fine) it was blunt "can you give your teeth a clean".

In the end it was a bit more straightforward, still delivered gently but the words were blunter "look, I really need you to regularly clean your teeth because at the moment it's hard to kiss you. I love you and it's a real shame if I can't kiss you"

He got the message in the end.

If he doesn't brush his teeth then just imagine what it will be like further south!

I had this issue with someone I dated for a while. He would stay at mine all weekend, and only clean his teeth when I asked him too!

I got to the point where I just couldn't handle it and had to ditch him. There is NO excuse for bad personal hygiene once you pass the age of 18. We live in a first world country. Access to soap, water, and toothpaste is freely availableSmile

Make it your problem and say you have to fess up that you have OCD. You need him to have minty fresh breath all the time and shower every day otherwise intimacy is out of the question. if he's as interested in a future with you as you are with him then he'll accept it. You can come clean (no pun intended) way further down the track if you need to (when he realises that for someone with supposed ocd you shouldn't have empty chocolate wrappers littering your dashboard)

My ex didnt clean his teeth properly or at all. Went to his mothers once, and she said: It was hard to get him in the shower [when younger] so, I watched and despite working on the house pulling down walls etc, I didnt see him shower from when I went there on Friday, to when I left Sunday night. Massive boak and no sex...you have been warned!!

How do you know he doesn't brush his teeth? Are you saying his breath stinks, his teeth are rotten, what?

If he's not doing his best to spruce himself up at this stage of your relationship, then it's not likely to get better I wouldn't have thought.
