I have a new man in my life, allebloodyluyah. We get along fab, gonna dtd soon but...... I don't think he brushes his teeth! Aghhh can't believe I had to write that! How the hell do I get him to clean his fecking teeth? Yeah I know what you're thinking, you mean you've snogged that grotty mouth? Blush It's not really awful but there's room for improvement. I can't tell him without embarrassment on both sides. What am I going to do? He's very loving & attentive, it's a small thing in the scheme of things but I need it doing. Help me.

Tell him you heard about brushing your teeth with bicarb soda.
Ask him to try it with you.

You just make a thick paste with it and scrub. It can be done daily for a week and then once a week or fortnight after that.
It really is very good at removing stains, you just need to be careful you don't do it everyday/ forever as it will damage the enamel.

Headmelt · 07/12/2015 01:20

Ewww. Buy him a new toothbrush for when he stays over at your place?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/12/2015 04:22

This thread is making me pissed off
What evidence do you have that he doesn't brush his teeth? Does he smell? Have you observed him not doing it? Or is it just the colour of his teeth?

harrasseddotcom · 07/12/2015 04:28

this is rather a horrible thread. Poor man has stained teeth, reasons not given but since his breath doesn't smell it would be logical to assume he brushes his teeth. Yet a lot of people have pretty much tarnished him some disgusting unhygienic pig. With no evidence to back it up. Like OBM said is it just the colour of his teeth?

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/12/2015 04:40

If his breath doesn't smell, he's brushing his teeth.

Sansoora · 07/12/2015 06:41

No. Just. No.

You are worth way more than a dirty pig who doesn't clean his teeth.

Sansoora · 07/12/2015 06:42

Ah the colour of his teeth. Blush

Lweji · 07/12/2015 06:47

Teeth colour has very little to do with hygiene.
Mine are on the yellow side and they are clean and healthy.
If you are going to say something, make sure he actually doesn't brush his teeth.

Lweji · 07/12/2015 06:48

Bad breath also has little to do with brushing.
Look it up.

Triliteral · 07/12/2015 06:54

What colour is the staining? I know someone with teeth that are literally grey because her mother took tetracycline antibiotics during pregnancy. She could clean them all day and they wouldn't look clean. I think just talking might be key here.

ALaughAMinute · 07/12/2015 07:10

You shouldn't have to ask someone to wash or brush their teeth.

He sounds a filthy bastard! Get rid.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/12/2015 07:38

Fucking hell Angry

He doesn't sound like a dirty bastard or a filthy pig. Op has offered no reason to hunk he doesn't brush his teeth other than staining. I feel awful for my DS that people might make these assumptions about him based on his teeth colour.

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 07:42

What horrible comments some people are making about a bit of discoloration. I agree with you, Obsidian. One of my DCs had years of orthodontic treatment for a dental condition that wasn't her fault. And she was lucky - because the treatment isn't offered to adults on the NHS who have to fund their own.

Not everyone is born with Hollywood teeth.

donajimena · 07/12/2015 07:49

Yep obsidian his teeth aren't white yet OP says he doesn't have bad breath. She sounds naive . My ex didn't know why his teeth were discoloured. It most definitely wasn't hygiene!
I love how his off white teeth brought up all sorts of supposition about his underwear and general hygiene.
Don't worry about your son obs most people aren't as stupid or cruel as some of the posters on here.

Oysterbabe · 07/12/2015 08:10

TBF most people commenting are taking OP at her word, that he doesn't brush his teeth, rather than assuming so because they are discoloured.

donajimena · 07/12/2015 08:17

She said she didn't think he brushed his teeth. He doesn't have bad breath.
All of a sudden he has skids, knob cheese and god knows what else!
I

Lweji · 07/12/2015 08:23

And, again, bad breath may not be caused by bad oral hygiene either.

Thank you the carpenterSmile

Although if it was free I would be the first one there!

Shufflebunnyinlove · 07/12/2015 08:29

If you need specifics, I started this thread because I could see he had a fair bit of plaque around his back teeth when he laughed. It could be left over from lunch, I don't know but his mouth wasn't minty fresh as you might expect if you were hooking up with someone new. I'm really quite put off now with all the knob cheese & skiddies references. We're not talking complete minger here or I wouldn't hang around. He drinks a lot of coffee so that might explain the colour. He has the sweetest character. When I kissed him I wasn't sure it tasted that great. I feel like this has got blown out of all proportion. Being nice & clean is basic isn't it? Sad

OP posts:
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/12/2015 08:54

If he has stale breath then that's not pleasant. If he drinks coffee or smokes or doesn't drink enough water that could be why, even if he does brush his teeth.

DeltaZeta · 07/12/2015 09:58

Sounds like a visit to the hygienist is in order to sort out the plaque. plaque can build up even if you clean and floss regularly.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 07/12/2015 18:26

shuffle, grasp the nettle and tell him .. gently .. something on the lines of 'you're lovely and I think you're great, but there is a slight issue .. have you had mouth trouble before? im a bit worried that maybe something needs checking"

If he's sensible and otherwise a really nice chap, why not try? sure he's adult but if this is his only flaw 1) give him a change to fix it before binning him and 2) it'll help him in future, if he listens and does something (even if you dont want to see him any more).
