I have a new man in my life, allebloodyluyah. We get along fab, gonna dtd soon but...... I don't think he brushes his teeth! Aghhh can't believe I had to write that! How the hell do I get him to clean his fecking teeth? Yeah I know what you're thinking, you mean you've snogged that grotty mouth? Blush It's not really awful but there's room for improvement. I can't tell him without embarrassment on both sides. What am I going to do? He's very loving & attentive, it's a small thing in the scheme of things but I need it doing. Help me.

Is it just bad breath? He may brush his teeth but have an underlying cause.

flamingnoravera · 06/12/2015 20:09

Are they his own teeth? I hear that dentures can be viewed as replaceable so cleaning is less of a priority than for people with their own teeth.

mysteryknickers · 06/12/2015 20:16

If he is lax now, in the early days of this relationship, what is he going to be like later on?

I've been where you are OP and I never want to go back there. It erodes your respect for them in the end.

ValancyJane · 06/12/2015 20:19

My ex was like this, and general hygiene was dodgy too! He refused to do anything about it, claiming that it was who he was. Bleh, glad I got rid! I think you need to talk to him and see if he is receptive or not.

Shufflebunnyinlove · 06/12/2015 20:23

He doesn't have bad breath but his teeth are very stained (doesn't smoke)

expatinscotland · 06/12/2015 20:24

Er, no, because you shouldn't have to remind an adult to keep basic hygiene.

AnyFucker · 06/12/2015 20:25

I suggest you don't look too closely under his foreskin

LineyReborn · 06/12/2015 20:26

I said what to say nicely.

Only1scoop · 06/12/2015 20:27

I lived with an ex for 3 months. He never cleaned his teeth before bed. It grossed me out. He said he never ever had.

He had many other disgusting general hygiene habits. It was vile

Only1scoop · 06/12/2015 20:27

Sounds like he needs to see a dentist

donajimena · 06/12/2015 20:28

My ex had stained teeth. He hated them. He didn't smoke either and he brushed regularly. It was just how they were. He was fine from neck down too.
his morals were unclean though! Hence the ex.

ImperialBlether · 06/12/2015 20:30

What the HELL attracted you to this man?

mysteryknickers · 06/12/2015 20:30

'Very stained'. Okay, what exactly is the issue here? Do you know he is not brushing his teeth? They may be perfectly clean but not China plate white - not everyone has sparkly white teeth. Prof whitening is very expensive ( and is not permanent).

expatinscotland · 06/12/2015 20:31

'What the HELL attracted you to this man?'

Desperation, I'd guess.

ChutneyRhodrey · 06/12/2015 20:31

They may be stained from drinking too much caffeine, red wine etc. Stained teeth doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't brush them.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 06/12/2015 20:34

My DS has yellow teeth :( he's only 7 but they are growing through with no enamel. Maybe that's it? Or he may drink black coffee and red wine a lot. Stained doesn't equal not brushing. Does he have plaque build up?

whatsforsupper · 06/12/2015 20:36

Hang on, there is no correlation between lack of dental hygiene and hygiene in general, its well documented that 1/10 or more do not brush their teeth.

I'd not fancy someone with crap dental care I'm some what obsessive about cleaning my own teeth. I think its a long stretch to suggest he's other wise not clean.

peggyundercrackers · 06/12/2015 20:43

Access to soap, water, and toothpaste is freely available smile

Where can I get free soap and toothpaste?

TheCarpenter · 06/12/2015 20:51

Where can I get free soap and toothpaste?

You can't Hmm but there is nothing to stop you buying them, you are free to buy them (hence freely available).

My ex did this, he got this weird abscess on his tongue then wondered why I didn't want to shag him.

flowerygirl · 06/12/2015 20:57

Just before you dtd (I presume before bed!) could you say 'I'm just going to brush my teeth? You coming?'

I find it hard to believe he wouldn't join you. If he refuses, I say run for the hills!

RedMapleLeaf · 06/12/2015 21:27

What evidence do you actually have that he doesn't brush his teeth?

DeltaZeta · 06/12/2015 22:03

So does he taste or smell unclean? Or is the issue just that his teeth are stained? If it's the former, I couldn't cope with that I'm afraid.

But there could be reasons for the latter. I drink a lot of coffee and have a tendency to stained teeth. I visit the hygienist every few months which sorts the problem. But at 50 quid a go, not everyone can afford that.

ChilliAndBint · 06/12/2015 22:54

Rim cheese anyone?

DadWasHere · 07/12/2015 00:56
