If you were able to build a 'good husband' what qualities would you include?

Basically ive been wondering what it is that makes a good husband.

Well, what makes a good person? Kindness is the number 1 quality for me.

Honesty, integrity, humour.

Strange way of thinking about it

But I think a good husband is:

Supportive
Accepting of who you are
Loving
Respectful
Not sexist, racist, homophobic etc
A good fit for your personality, your habits/preferences don't clash
Trustworthy
Interesting, inspiring, fun to spend time with
Good in bed

Can't think of anything else which isn't covered by the above.

One who would bloody listen

A good listener
Caring
Attentive
Clean
Receptive (to mood, crumbs, etc)

OP, it's an interesting topic. 'Good husband' for whom, and in what capacity do you mean? For instance as a lover, co-habitant, life partner or co-parent?

We ask a lot of a husband or wife in the 21st century, don't we. People live so much longer than when the arrangement first began in historical times, in the first world women rarely die in childbirth, children usually survive, we live and work perhaps hundreds of miles away from other family members. It's all so different from a short life spent scraping a living and working the land.

I'm all for life-long commitment myself, I thinks it's very grown-up, but I can also see the reason that some people have a hard time with it and therefore look at serial monogamy as some sort of solution.

Perhaps the institution of marriage is ultimately doomed. I don't really have an answer for you. Maybe 'a good husband' is one that make you happy?

It depends on what you want.

I wanted someone who wanted marriage and a family, was funny, liked to read, was religious or at least vaguely spiritual, didn't hate dogs, and wouldn't cheat on me.

Other people probably want different things. :)

I do wish he was a morning person though. We're both night owls and have fierce arguments about who has to get up with the DC.

Well i would aim for a good, decent person as a partner rather than a good husband specifically. Actually i'd aim for the person i'd like to be myself. In reality two of me would be hell

Oh and at a risk of sounding Fattist and healthist, a healthy weight. Not too thin and not obese. I don't mind a bit of timber. I've got a fair bit of my own.

I'm actually describing my current partner. Not perfect but just bloody marvellous.
