35 year old man I'm seeing doesn't know how to plumb a washing machine in. Would this be a turn off to you?!

This made me feel weird about him. Completely over the top, I know. But does anyone else think this is un-sexy? Or is it just me?

I'm not sure I understand.

Is there some kind of implication that all men should be able to plumb in appliances in order to be sexy or is this a universal thing? Are women equally unsexy if they've never done a bit of plumbing?

I couldn't care less about anybody's plumbing credentials. Unless they're a plumber.

Surely it is more important what he can do rather than what he can't? Plumbing a washing machine in is a fairly rarely required skill in most households. Cleaning the loo on the other hand....

Do you know how to plumb a washing machine in? I don't but I imagine if I needed to I would read the instructions/look it up online.

Is there any reason you think this is essential knowledge in a partner?

If you're being serious, then no I don't think plumbing skills have any bearing on sex appeal and yes, it is just you.

However I don't actually think you're being serious, rather posting goady sexist twaddle to provoke a reaction from MNers.

Madison, I've always plumbed in my own washing machines. The delivery people have only ever plonked the machine in the kitchen.

I think the first time I did it, I may have looked closely at the machine, browsed the instructions and got on with it. How sexy am I, eh?

I like a domestically capable man but don't necessarily expect him to arrive with an entire repertoire of expertise. He'd better be up for doing it with me and capable of remembering how so that he can do it next time with or without my help.

I expect my sons can do it or would want to research and do it, they are in their 20s. Just saying no and not trying would put me off.

I have no clue how to do this, don't think dh does either. This is the first house we have owned, all the others were rented and had washing machines already in.

When this one was delivered, the builders (new estate still bein built and builders helped me lift it in) plumbed it in for us.

All a bit of a non issue. Dh knows I don't cook, really dislike it....so he does it. Can't imagine him tellinge it was a turn off.

Seriously, it shouldn't matter to you at all. If the need for an ability to perform domestic handiwork outshines his other qualities, then he's probably not a keeper.
