Condoms, such a passion killer

Hello! :D

Condoms are bloody awful! Well, at least, the ones I use are... Can anyone recommend any good condoms that don't restrict movement and cause dryness?! Have tried lubricant too but I'm scared it'll make the condom slip off. They become so awkward that in the end the feeling just goes and is a massive turn off... I can understand why people think sod it and go without - resulting in pregnancy! He can't feel anything through the condom either :/ total passion killer lol

Not ready for kids yet... but have been on the pill for about 8 years now and I'm so forgetful it's becoming unreliable :/ don't want any accidents! Hmm Blush Confused

If you've found this page in search of condoms that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best condoms useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

You have been sexually active and never used lubricant or condoms?

Durex.

PreviouslyMal · 02/02/2015 17:16

Don't be ridiculous, you can't even feel modern condoms, we used them for few weeks after DH had the snip, a vast improvement on what they were like 20+ years ago. Just get ones that fit properly.

ObsessInPhases · 02/02/2015 17:17

Joan I do use condoms and lubricant please read my post :/

Sorry , I misread your post.

MouseInTheSkirting · 02/02/2015 17:19

I agree with you - they're awful. I use natural family planning now. I did use femidoms once and we both much preferred them to condoms.

BuffaloCustardbath · 02/02/2015 17:20

Agreed, passion killer. I don't have any better suggestions though.

jimmycrackcornbutidontcare · 02/02/2015 17:21

Skyn - you really would not know they are there.

punygod · 02/02/2015 17:22

I like them, and they can be quite sexy if you incorporate them into dtd.

Just get the thinnest Durex, can't really feel anything.

Obviously, nothing is better, but then there's the whole eighteen years of bringing up the result, which is also a bit of a passion killer, imd Grin

seaoflove · 02/02/2015 17:22

Lube won't make the condom fall off, as long as it's been put on correctly in the first place.

punygod · 02/02/2015 17:22

imo

Fairylea · 02/02/2015 17:25

What about the implant or non hormonal coil?

I hate condoms too. Feels like having sex with a carrier bag. We used them briefly whilst I was recovering after my dc but I would never choose to use them in a long term relationship.

EyelinerQueen · 02/02/2015 17:25

I agree with you OP.

I absolutely hate the damn things, useful though they are.

One of the benefits of being in a ltr is not having to use them!

loopsyloup · 02/02/2015 17:27

If you're in long term trusting relationship the coil is great!

seaoflove · 02/02/2015 17:27

My problem is not being able to tolerate hormonal contraception. Copper coil is out too, because I'm not having anything shoved through my cervix.

So condoms are the only option, really.

punygod · 02/02/2015 17:27

I don't have much of a choice.

Can't take the pill, don't get on with depo, no way am I having a coil (tilted cervix, also don't fancy the whole after fertilisation thing), so condoms it is.

Honestly don't find them a problem. Maybe try a few different types?

punygod · 02/02/2015 17:28

Not all at once, obviously.

chdmum20 · 02/02/2015 17:41

evra patch ?

MrsTedCrilly · 02/02/2015 17:48

Anything hormonal doesn't agree with me so we have used condoms for years and it doesn't kill the passion! It only takes a few seconds to put on, and lube doesn't make them come off either.. We use 'Skyn' ones which feel as close to wearing nothing as possible ;-)

KoalaKoo · 02/02/2015 17:58

Look carefully onthe durex site, some of their condoms hv a slightly smaller diameter which might help. Durex have one which is ultra thin, dunno the name but theres no way the woman should know he is wearing one really

Skyn - they are the best.

Bellerina2 · 02/02/2015 19:08

If you think condoms are bad, femidoms are worst - just imagine trying to insert a plastic carrier bag into your fanjo mid-foreplay! As PPs have said, Skyn condoms are good and there are some non-latex ones which feel more natural too although you need to check them as some only protect against pregnancy and not STIs.

butterfly86 · 02/02/2015 19:21

Definately skyns Im sensitive to condoms and hate them but had to use them for a short time they are the closest thing to nothing

HootyMcTooty · 02/02/2015 20:19

Yeah they get in the way a bit. But do you know what's a bigger passion killer? An unwanted pregnancy or STD.

They're fine once you get used to them.

aglassofmandms · 02/02/2015 21:25

Durex does one with lube on it. Also I personally like skins natural (dif brand to skyns). If you go on bondara website you can buy them for like 20p each with free postage Wink
