The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Sipping Super Summer Mocktails Whilst Soaking Up Some Sun.

Hello, tis me, Mouse

I'm what some would call a 'controlled' drinker these day, but I wasn't always and I'm not alone on this wonderful bus, Gerald, when I say that.

We have drinkers who drink each day, those who abstain completely and those who are not sure what it is that they actually want just yet....

We won't judge you for drinking, no matter what your reason is, we've all been in your shoes somewhere along the way!! And we have ALL used every excuse under the sun too!

We have some Babes who ride on the Roof-Rack, (clinging on for dear life Grin ) and then we have an expandable Side-Car, which some Babes use, but the bus, well, the bus, our wonderful Gerald, who takes us here and there, to pick up people in need of an unbiased and much needed ear to listen to. :)

There are lots of ears on this bus, and not a single one will turn you away and not listen!

Two things that we do believe here are -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

If you are lurking and reading this thread, there is a reason for it, isn't there?

Stay lurking or come and say hello! We don't always bite.

And for those who'd like a bit of history, HERE'S THE LAST THREAD

And of course, THIS IS WHY WE ARE ALL HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, A VERY AWE INSPIRING READ

See you soon x

littlewhite yes, isn't it astonishing that there is a whole wide world out there, where it is possible to feel content, and excited, and alive. And then to come home and sleep well.

ma bad timing! You're heading to Downing Street with your norks on maximum exposure, at the very time when they've brought a load on women into the cabinet. Quick re-think needed!

Whydidthishappen22 · 16/07/2014 04:46

Well done littlewhitebag! There are enjoyable sober activities. I knew people did them but I always thought they were boring because who wouldnt want to kick back with a beer and sit in, unwind from the day and have fun? I couldnt have been more wrong. I was the one missing out. Enjoy the movies! It is surprisingly romantic, like dating again.

alisonanderson · 16/07/2014 07:09

littlewhite Smile

fairenuff I know you're right...social events without alcohol are still fun social events. I managed this whilst pregnant so why can't I do it now? Sometimes I feel guilty if I go out and don't drink when its 'expected' e.g. I'm going to a hen party at the weekend, I feel like its expected that il drink. I'd love to do it sober, it would be really useful too as I need to travel home very early on Sunday.

Today I will not be drinking Smile Day 2

guggenheim · 16/07/2014 07:56

Morning babes

Agree with the comments about social events still being fun- it takes a while but after an initial weirdness then it really doesn't make any difference at all. Just another small thing to learn how to do.
I'm finding that I have time to get properly organised rather than 1/2 arsed efforts all the time,it's not very exciting but it is much better for my mental health since it cuts out stress.

alison hen nights are tricky because the expectation is that you have to drink, god knows why.Good luck Smile

Today I will not be drinking.

Fairenuff · 16/07/2014 08:22

Morning all Smile

Any chance you could be a designated driver Alison?

Try looking at it this way. If you were allergic to something, would you consume it anyway, to please others? Even though you really didn't want to and knew it might make you very ill?

Well done on 2 days, one day at a time is often all we need to focus on Smile

SweetLathyrus · 16/07/2014 08:57

Morning All. So far this week I have lost 2lbs, I have been to the gym twice, I've had a night out with DH, another out with DS, lovely coffee and cakes with a friend, and I am about to start day 5 AF. That's quite a week and it's only Wednesday.

Hope everyone else is finding the good in life - ma can't wait to hear about your day.

SoberSocFish · 16/07/2014 09:09

I'll never forget my first social party were I actually danced 100% stone cold sober. For the past 25 years I've always said "I need to be drunk to dance". But they were playing fabulous music and I felt like it. It was odd for about 10 seconds and then it was great. So after all, I didn't need to be drunk to dance for those past 25 years.... Grin

aliasjoey · 16/07/2014 15:10

Hello babes

Waves to wry, guggs, babyj, beaches, sweet

Waves to other oldies regulars

SweetLathyrus · 16/07/2014 19:34

Fuck it, fuck it all. I'm drinking wine, it doesn't help, but at least it a decision I made.

dementedma · 16/07/2014 20:42

am here in London
downing street tomorrow

aliasjoey · 16/07/2014 21:24

ooohh ma how exciting! Are you going to be talking about important things? Running the country etc? and what will you be wearing?

guggenheim · 16/07/2014 21:39

'Lo there joey

ma sheesh- tell that PM exactly what you think about erm..whatever it is. We'll vote for you!

sweet I nearly joined you tonight- the bloody ww has been dangling round every fecking evening this week.I'm old, have PMT and the peri wotsit,I'm a bloody teacher,it's the end of sodding term AND govey's been kicked to the kerb.I think they may be good excuses for a drink!

Have stayed sober but it's been hard. Think it's been 7 weeks now and I kind of remember having monster cravings every few weeks for the first x number of months. bugger.

aliasjoey · 16/07/2014 23:27

well done guggs on your 7 weeks!

Yesterday, I was thinking...

Well I can't drink now until the weekend, that's Sunday well maybe Saturday and it's not fair, I mean it's my birthday and everything. Nobody at work even gave me a card or wished me a happy birthday! Bastards. And as for my mother - don't get me started. God, I'm fed up of this wishing I could have a drink, always waiting for next Saturday Friday to roll around.

Today, I'm thinking...

Hang about, why don't I just make this year different? I could stop wishing my life away, always thinking about Friday Thursday if it's been a bad week and just decide not to drink at all. Could spend my birthday money on beauty treatments instead of alcohol! (and really, trying to do a facial peel when half-cut isn't such a bright idea anyway)

By my next birthday I'm going to be happy and content and it starts NOW

beachestoexplore · 17/07/2014 02:24

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Joey!! (your advancing weekend did make me smile)

dementedma · 17/07/2014 06:16

Happy birthday joey. Have a green opal fruit.
Had a try on of my outfit yesterday and it looks OK. Sis noticed weight loss and said it looked good. Black dress with geometric coloured panel down middle and black jacket. Purple hair.
Don't know if I will even see the pm as probs loads of people there. Any ( lighthearted) issued you would like me to raise on your behalf?
Reduction of virtual road tax for virtual babe bus?
Independence for squids? (Someone look after Barrie until I get back)

babyjane1 · 17/07/2014 06:57

Morning babes, I've been reading all your posts but not posting, not feeling well with crohn's and nightmares getting me up anywhere from half four to half six in the morning and the loo many times in between so I'm knackered but despite every trigger under the sun I haven't drank and believe me a bottle of wine and drunken dreamless slumber would be easy right now when my defences are low.

It's a month on Sunday which is a record and I've worked too hard to give in to this nasty disease, I'm lightheaded with blood loss but I need to keep plodding on thanks to tramadol as the kids are off and I hate them seeing me poorly. Anyway enough about me just affirming myself out loud, ma enjoy your day, you'll remember it forever and joey happy birthday and loved your post, we wish our lives away don't we?

I will continue to find strength to carry on and today I have my councillor then riding but a tad concerned how my bowels will behave whilst a gallop my mid life crisis away, may have to ask a complete stranger to hold my steed while I ran in the direction if a toilet or bush, ah well it won't be the first time I've made a run for it. Irony is on account of my steroids I'm the only fat person in the world with crohn's,
How shit is that (poor choice of words).

Have a great day all my lovely fiends, need a bosie for sure xxx

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 17/07/2014 07:46

Also reading but not posting....doing extra shifts and boss stressed and lashing out. A lot.

But, always have time to give a bosie

(((((((((((((((Bosie for baby))))))))))))

Sorry you're feeling so poorly ma quine, I hope you feel a bit better soon. Enjoy your ride, nothing like it for blowing a cobweb or two away, you are an inspiration and don't you forget it! Xxx

ma hope you and The Norks enjoy your day, how could the PM walk past you when you'll be so finely attired? May it be everything you dreamt it to be and then some! Xx

joey (((((happy birthday bosie)))) have a lovely weekend bonny lass! Spoil yourself rotten my lovely, your path to contentment has Thursday written all over it! Grin

guggs well done! 7 weeks is a hell of an achievement!

sweet extra big Bosie for you, it'll be okay, you'll see. Xx All this week I've been batting off the WW with a shitty stick, thankfully tiredness got me before she did.

marfisa. Hope you're okay, have you nice plans made for the weekend? I've been thinking about what you said, and you're right, it's a blessing we didn't get round to living together. It will make it a lot easier. Xx

I will try to catch up tonight, bosies to all xx

aliasjoey · 17/07/2014 08:33

Thanks babes ! I had a sudden panic after posting that, thinking I can't do it (or don't want to rather, let's be honest) but my facial peel went really well; so I'm going to have to save my money to continue that. Grin

Gosh whenever I think about what I'll be missing out on I get anxious, must think of the negative aspects.

babyj a huge well done to you on your achievement - no mean feat with all you're going through. Enjoy your ride!

Whydidthishappen22 · 17/07/2014 08:38

Date night with the husband and we went to see Boyhood. A fantastic movie anf I cant recommend it highly enough.

Stick with it baby.

venusandmars · 17/07/2014 13:44

Hope all is going well at no.10 ma that kind of thing is always excellent for people watching Smile

Lovely to see positive posts and lots of support on here - makes me happy to read.

SoberSocFish · 17/07/2014 14:01

ma is too busy staging a coup to talk to us.

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 17/07/2014 16:50

soc Grin

You may be right there...

I'd sooner see oor wee bus loudhailing positivities (is that a word? Ah feck it, it is noo Blush) through the streets than the wee erse wipes that have been trawling our streets belching shite promises o this and that.

ma for PM, she has her foot in the door, g'wan, turf him oot Grin

I've no selfish hankering to abuse my position on the bus and be Old Stylee Matron Of The Uk or anything, oh no

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 17/07/2014 16:52
littlewhitebag · 17/07/2014 17:07

Anyone here tried alcohol free beer? Is it nice? Is it considered cheating?

I bought some as i think i miss that sitting in the garden or at a BBQ swigging a beer or cider from a bottle. I thought if i had them no-one would notice it was alcohol feee and i wouldn't have to answer any awkward questions.

I am on my 6th day now and the tricky weekend is coming up. I need to be prepared.

ruralreynard · 17/07/2014 20:43

Happy Birthday joey Smile
Ma hope you have had a brilliant day.
Well done all the AF babes whether its a day or years x
