What was your first dance to at your wedding? Or what is 'your' song?

Our was Ray Charles ' Come Rain or Come Shine'. We danced to it in the courtyard garden of the place we had our smallish reception. It was lovely!

Our first dance was to Bruce Springsteen's 'If I Should I Fall Behind' - the Lucky Town version. Still love it!

BonnieBeaumont · 19/05/2014 00:20

So sorry for all those on here who have lost their husbands.

I Just Can't Stop Loving You by Michael Jackson. DH is a huge fan (we went to see 'This is It' on our first date) and having been to dance school he has some pretty good moves. We did a slow shuffle with him showing off in the choruses, much to the amazement of those who didn't know about his dance background. He was wearing a kilt and i have a great photo of it flying up only just covering his modesty as he spins.

Some lovely stories here-heart goes out to those who have lost someone they loved.
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes I love your name too- and the Sandy Denny version of the song. One of our favourites! Beautiful song.

Springsteen's 'Thunder Road' is our song for me and my teenage boyfriend- still good friends. We use lines from it to make us laugh these days.

Whoever had The Smiths love that! I don't want to get married but if I did would have The Verve Sonnet as it's my favourite song ever Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/05/2014 21:23

I'm glad it's not just me that loves "my" song, it makes me shiver when I hear it. Ironic that my first post on this thread was to say that Dh and I don't have a special song and didn't have a first dance. Oops! He likes this song too, but it isn't special to us IYSWIM.

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 20/05/2014 09:40

I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz, I want that to be ours! OH sings it for me a lot and my heart just melts, he's not the best singer but really goes for it and I love it so much :)

Greydog · 20/05/2014 09:45

Battleship Chains - by Georgia Satellites.

Love Is Easy - McFly Blush

In my life - Bette Midler

Wonderful Wonderful by Johnny Mathis.

Indeed a wonderful song.

^ "The world is full of wondrous things it's true
But they wouldn't have much meaning without you

Some quiet evenings I sit by your side
And we're lost in a world of our own
I feel the glow of your unspoken love
I'm aware of the treasure that I own
And I say to myself, it's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful my love!" ^

GreatAuntDinah · 20/05/2014 12:15

Atlas by The Battles. Wondering how it will go down as our first dance this summer Grin

DancingLola · 20/05/2014 12:28

We had Baby I Love Your Way by Big Mountain for our first dance. I didn't want anything overly soppy, so it took a while to agree on something, but we both love it.

'Our' song is actually Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, but DH thought it was too lively for a first dance, so we had that played straight afterwards Smile

ldt87 · 20/05/2014 12:29

Our song is the fray look after you. It was our first dance and makes me all tingly remembering that day.

shggg245 · 20/05/2014 12:35

Like maxsmum we also had 'Baby I Love You by the Ramones - my dh's favourite band ever. 10 years and still going strong.

Hoobastank -The Reason. Danced properly and shocked everyone ... DH ' S wedding present to me as his sense of rhythm is shocking so we learned a very simple box step and he twirled me round and made me feel lighter than air ... no mean feat as I'm 5 foot ten and (at the time) 15 stone Smile

LuluJakey1 · 20/05/2014 23:11

I have been listening to some of these songs that I didn't know and have discovered some great new favourites! Thanks!

'Third Finger, Left Hand' by Martha and the Vandellas. It was the flip side of Jimmy Mack.

'At last my dream's come true,
Today he said 'I do'.
Friends said it couldn't be done,
But all his love I know I've won,
Cos third finger, left hand
That's where he placed the wedding band...'

It made our friends laugh.

greyvix · 20/05/2014 23:35

What a lovely thread. Thank you all for sharing memories. We didn't have a first dance; maybe we'll have one now, 32 years later.

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 20/05/2014 23:47

Our 1st dance was supposed to be 'Champagne Supernova' by Oasis (DH is a huge fan) because it was the song that was playing when we met (although officially it should have been 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' but I don't think MIL would have gone for it Grin) Instead we ended up with Elvis Presley's 'Only fools rush in' (may have been a more apt choice GrinGrin) because the DJ couldn't remember where he left the song list... There were only a few songs that we had chosen because we just had everybody put in requests.

nancy75 · 20/05/2014 23:51

Not married but we do have an "our song" it is the boy with the Arab strap by belle & Sebastian, a totally inappropriate non love song, but it suits us :)

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 21/05/2014 00:02

Oh, we did get to have 'Wonderwall' as our 2nd song Smile

DH always said that he didn't believe in "the one" so our current song is 'The one' by The Foo's. He says that the lyrics

Because you’re not the one but you’re the only one
Who can make me feel like this
You’re not the one but you’re the only one
Who can make me feel like shit

sums up how he feels about me. Talk about damning with faint praiseGrin Good thing i know exactly what he means!

WolfMoon · 21/05/2014 01:32

Peter Gabriel's cover of The Book of Love. DH and I watched the last episode of Scrubs together whilst we were wedding-planning, and it's played over a beautiful scene where the lead character sees his life playing out, getting married, having kids, spending time with friends etc. We sat in utter silence all the way through, and I cried my eyes out (I NEVER cried pre-DC). It was just perfect, perfect timing. I still get a bit teary whenever I watch that scene!

Salazar · 21/05/2014 01:56

Mine is going to be Blue Moon. I let DP pick it.

We're getting married on his birthday, going to have a wedding cake and a football birthday cake, and his love of Manchester City has to shine through somewhere.

I'm going to need lots of Wine I think.
