The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Wading Through Winter Blues Without The Booze!

I'm Mouse, nice to meet YOU. Smile

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, it's all up to you. And of course all addictions, so if you are taking drugs of any kind, prescription or otherwise, you're very welcome here too!

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's all in YOUR hands.

Whatever your goal, you'll find unconditional support here. Always. :)

There will be talk of drinking quite often and those who fall off the Bus will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY threads would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers, but EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE :)

There are two sayings that we rather like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

For those of you who'd like some history, here is the very first thread and the reason that we're all here now. FIRST EVER THREAD

And the most recent so you can work your way back through time IS JUST HERE

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, it is honest and it will help you to achieve what it is that YOU seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

The hardest thing is people who seem to want you to not not drink! I'm going to a birthday party in a few weeks and said I'd come but won't be drinking as an having a break until Easter and straight away she said "oh, but that means you can't have a drink on my birthday...can't you just make an exception for one night". I know people don't mean anything by it but in this country it's almost frowned upon to not get a bit pissed at a social event and you're treated like a bit of a party pooper. It's not like I'm stopping anyone else from drinking!

lonnika · 10/03/2014 16:07

Kelly - I know what u mean - but because I also have problems re food - I amused to people frowning aout what I will/won't have - just stay strong and keep say no I am not drinking ATM and tbh people get used to it - I turned my mon drinking into anbadgenof honour - and people just started to accept that I wasn't drinking :)

KellyElly · 10/03/2014 16:30

lonnika Good for you! My cousin is like that. He doesn't have a problem with alcohol, but just doesn't really like to drink and can't stand hangovers. It's pretty much accepted that he won't be drinking now and will be on the fizzy water. I'm using Lent as an excuse (I say an excuse as I'm not religious) to get people to pipe down with the drinking pressure!

lonnika · 10/03/2014 16:46

OMG Kelly I am surprised you could read my badly typed reply - sorry. Lent is a good one :).

Fairenuff · 10/03/2014 17:13

Lent is a great time to give up something without people questioning it, even if you are not religious. It's a chance to practise some restraint and live more frugally for a few weeks. Use the time to change some habits, it's about six weeks in all and that's all it takes to change a habit.

When Easter arrives, you always have the excuse that you've loved not drinking/overeating/unhealthy eating/getting more exercise, etc. that you've decided to stick with it a bit longer and start getting that 'beach body' ready.

Being on a diet is another easy way to tell people you're not drinking. I use that one all the time at the moment. In fact, there is always a reason to not drink if you look for it Smile

Welcome to the bus Kelly

Good Morning you lovely Brave Babes

I've been reading off and on, whilst in the middle of moving. We are now all nested into our temporary flat whilst the purchase of final flat goes through. It is a great relief to be free of a big mortgage. My shoulder literally feel lighter. Picked up the animals from kennels yesterday - the cats have kept me awake on and off through the night (little shits!!). Dog is as good as gold, bless her. Slept under the bed, timid little thing.

This bus moves so fast - Isinde the scenery has been breath taking, thank you for driving Gerald, glad you've been about a bit more Smile

I'm you are doing an amazing job babe - please don't let that arse get you down. What's happening with your re-housing?

Louise I'm so sorry that you've been being sick all night - it really is the pits isn't it - another reminder of how crap alcohol is.

Mouse Hope Nuff Baby Rural Joey Soc Why Hello to you all Grin

Beaches how are you lovely peach? I have completely flunked Dry March, I think I managed 2 days and started drinking on Day 3 and then every day since Blush Not good. Hope you're OK

Have a good day y'all xxx

Fairenuff · 11/03/2014 08:10

louise try to write down everything you feel now. It will help next time you feel tempted. Write a letter to your future self and make this experience help towards your sobriety.

Stick with us, keep posting, you will feel better soon. Drink lots of water or herbal teas if you can stomach them. Milk thistle is a good one. Take vitamin supplements and eat whatever you fancy.

Welcome to the bus Smile

Why just another shout out to you, are you ok?

lonnika · 11/03/2014 10:11

KellyElly · 11/03/2014 11:07

Hey babes. I had a really stressful encounter with my ex last night and a crappy day at work. I would have usually had a bottle of wine, but managed to stick to the water :) Watched some crap tv and read a book and managed to chill out that way. Feel a million times better for it today as wold be tired and hungover usually.

spanna41 · 11/03/2014 11:37
