The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Walking In A Winter Sober Land!

Mouseface · 15/12/2013 00:41

Hello Brave Babes, I'm Mouse :)

Welcome to the 'Bus Of Fun' (now you've come of age!) Grin

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, with a view to quitting or not... it's up to you.

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's in your hands. And only you can make it happen.

Whatever your goal, you'll find support here. Always.

There will be talk of drinking and those who fall off the Bus (arse over tit) will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY thread would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers. :)

That said, this Bus is happy to have you no matter what, as long as you can cope with chat of drinking, nights out/in, failures, cyclical drinkers, etc......

Everyone has always been welcome here and shall remain to be.

No-one is ever turned away. EVER.

There are no hard and fast rules, other than the support here is unconditional, it may be in the form of tough love at times, but it's always meant with the very best of intentions.

There are two sayings that we like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

The rest kind of happens as the posts appear.

I hope that's okay with you all.

You'll find the last thread HERE, THAT WILL LEAD TO THREADS BEFORE IT, SOME HISTORY

And the original and real, truly heartfelt reason that we are here in the first place is HERE. A VERY SOBERING READ

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, honest and will help you to achieve what it is that you seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

See you soon. x

Venus what a beautiful poem, and so very appropriate

dementedma · 03/01/2014 11:50

Welcome baby steps take a seat.
Venus love it and a HYN to you babe
soc I would take the dds unless they are tiny, or older and absolutely refuse. I am so sorry you have this tragedy at the start of the year.

Now listen up DJBs ( dry January babes)
Today is the dreaded day 3 and the start of the first dry weekend. Saggy tits will be on the prowl - speaking of which, where is indie Grin - so we must be prepared.
Get in your soft drinks and sweeties of choice and be ready. I will be doing roll call early this evening so we can stand strong.

SoberSocFish · 03/01/2014 11:55

Well I'm sober and in bed as it's Friday night here. Soc = 1 Saggy tits = 0
X

dementedma · 03/01/2014 12:02

I am in for dry January :-) it's actually day 7 for me but think I'll just count from the first along with the rest if you lovely ladies.

Imdoingthis · 03/01/2014 13:16

Welcome baby steps glad you posted
What you described about getting making tea and having a drink is me exactly I know lots of us on the bus have different times of the day that are hardest for us and mine is after school and making the tea, so 4-5 o clock but if I make dinner at 1 o clock on a Sunday the trigger of cooking means I will have a glass too.

mrF that's bloody brilliant well done Smile

spanna41 · 03/01/2014 13:32

Well done Soc you rock Grin

Hello Baby Steps (may start calling you Steps so as not to get mixed up with Baby) This bus in an amazing source of strength, stick with us.

Day 2 for me today and I feel tired. Been worried about my friend's partner (GF figure to my DDs and good friend of mine). Spoke to my friend and he'd had a better night. Alot of visitors yesterday, so she said that we wouldn't be able to talk to him if we visited. I explained all this to DD2 (10) and she said she didn't want to go to the hospital. So that's that for now. My other DD1 (14) is of course still asleep Hmm

Ma I had a picture of us all marching along in a Squadron earlier made me LOL Grin

Why sounds Brrrrrrrr

Isinde Grin Grin Take care darling and be kind to yourself Smile one day at a time x

I'm can you check in please Smile

Beaches well done for yesterday.Thank you for your words of wisdom. How you doing today? Not snowed in I hope Hmm

spanna41 · 03/01/2014 13:38

Xpost I'm Hello babe Smile

beachestoexplore · 03/01/2014 14:08

I have had two really good nights sleep now, which is the very best reward! I am still lethargic but am taking b vitamins and know in a few days I will begin to feel a bit brighter.

Spanna glad the decision has been made about the hospital visit - at least for today. Hoping that somehow things improve for him today x

Welcome to babysteps and a big hello to all other DJB's!!

soberisthenewblack · 03/01/2014 14:15

Imdoingthis · 03/01/2014 14:55

Hello spanna Smile

obrigada · 03/01/2014 15:08

Afternoon babes; day 3 here as well and today I will not drink. Friday is just another day ... repeat as many times as necessary Grin

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2014 15:15

Hello, could I jump aboard too, please? Not sure what to tell you all, I've known for a very long time that my drinking is a problem, and I promise myself every morning that today is the day I give up - it never is. So, day one for me, just trying to distract myself on an hourly basis, and getting this far into the afternoon when I'm not at work is a bit of an achievement.

Imdoingthis · 03/01/2014 15:22

Welcome sweet yes take it hour by hour a bit at a time keep busy Smile have you got some nice treats in? X

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2014 15:32

Thanks Im, Santa was very generous this year so I'm still working my way through packets of Percy Pigs and Eric the Elephants Smile and at least the ironing is getting done!

BobCrotchstitch · 03/01/2014 15:56

Yes sweet this not drinking lark is doing wonders for the housework :o

aliasjoey · 03/01/2014 16:00

Welcome to all new Babes whether you've decided to make a New Year's Resolution, or have been thinking about cutting down for a while. The Bus does get busy at this time of year, but stick around for lots of support and advice.

Our glorious leader mouse isn't around at the moment due to personal issues (hope you're doing okay if you're lurking mouse) so we are without her sensible guidance. Which means arguing over who gets to drive the Bus, squabbling over Opal Fruits, and isinde and ma sniggering at the back & drawing on the windows.

Don't worry about all the in-jokes and stuff, just bag a seat (in the Sidecar of Shame if you're still drinking, or up on the Regulated Roofrack if you can do controlled drinking) we won't criticise or lay the blame.

I hope no-one minds that I've done that, it just occurred to me that being January we would get a load of new posters.

guggenheim · 03/01/2014 16:06

Come on ladles and germs,we can do this.

If you are thinking about saggy tits right now, then try to distract yourself for 20 mins or so- go out, chew gum,run just get through the next little while and the craving will die down.

See it through and the craving weaken, unfortunately the opposite is also true- cave in and saggy tits just gets a stronger hold.

Stay strong for one night, you can drink tomorrow if necessary. Just one night.

Appropriate clothing for a woman of my age Shock

spanna41 · 03/01/2014 16:13

Shock Go Guggs Go Guggs
Thank you I needed that. I need to go to the shops and saggy tits starting whispering about an hour ago Blush I'm turning into a teabag, I've consumed so much Hmm

Well said Joey

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2014 16:29

One basket down, Bob, another to go - feels good to be doing it in company - the not drinking, not the ironing.

Just found half a box of Hotel Chocolat chilli penguins, anyone want one?

spanna41 · 03/01/2014 16:36

Yes please Sweet they sound yummy Smile

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2014 16:39

Here you go spanna they have a distracting kick to them!

Millie2013 · 03/01/2014 18:01

Those chili penguins are to die for (as are their alcoholic chocolate cherries, but we won't mention those)

I have a box of lime creams, which I am eyeing with a mixture of disgust and curiosity

dementedma · 03/01/2014 18:15

Welcome any newbies, grab a seat and hold on.
Sober socfish from down under drives the night bus so we could end up anywhere.
Are all DJBs present and correct? Don't want any casualties tonight so be armed and vigilant.
