Is this really a THING that people DO???

I am in a new relationship with man I've known for a long time. Until I got together with him I never had sex on my period, and when I mentioned this to my friend she looked at me aghast, as if I was weird. I didn't think it was that common, to have sec on your period. I've clearly led a sheltered life.
Now I've relaxed into the relationship a lot and I'm now comfortable having sex on my period, which is awesome, no more crossing a week off the calendar and feeling frustrated.
ANYWAY. I have my period. Last night in bed my partner told me he wanted to go down on me. I was slightly Shock, but he was totally relaxed and serious and said "it's alright, it's called a strawberry kiss". I declined.

Is this really a thing that people do???? Strawberry kisses? Really? Hmm

I would suck my own blood if I cut my finger, but I wouldn't if my partner cut his.

TMI......but my period doesn't smell all that nice & I'd much rather keep that to myself.

But each to their own, of course.

And I always thought it was called "Rainbow Kisses"?

It's depressing if that's true usual that they've become so desperate and unimaginative!!

Pagwatch · 27/10/2013 09:24

Can we get a eurgh topic?

I get that lots of people are really enjoying the Shock 'mumsnetters talk about sex!' thing.
But really, it's like competetive tmi on here.

usualsuspect · 27/10/2013 09:26

On a Sunday morning too.

BerstieSpotts · 27/10/2013 09:26

Seriously, some men like this. Others don't. Some are pretty indifferent.

It's not really a big deal. If you don't like it then tell him so!

Hettie, Rainbow kisses is supposed to be when you both give each other oral at this time of the month and then kiss to mix the fluids... boak... sounds like something made up to me.

EricLovesAnyFucker · 27/10/2013 09:27

I'm not disgusted by my menstrual blood but I don't want it in my mouth. And to be honest I'd find any other woman's menstrual blood disgusting, just as I'd find their snot or wee or spit disgusting. And? It doesn't make me a misogynist, just someone with a queasy stomach.

Branleuse · 27/10/2013 09:32

yes of course people do. we do

Onebuddhaisnotenough · 27/10/2013 09:32

Not new to me. Had a couple of partners not minding a visit downstairs during the red season. Each to their own. As long as you're both comfortable with it, why not? All about being grown up & consenting. If you both get enjoyment then what's the problem? I enjoy it. So does my partner. For those of you who don't like the idea, think it gross etc.... that's fine too, but why so judgemental? Do any of you enjoy rimming? Saw something on here concerning that the other day, responses seemed more relaxed than here. Do any of you swallow your partners sperm? Indeed there are some who may think the whole idea of going sown there gross at any time of the month. As I say, each to their own, I won't judge those who knock what other consenting adults do as frigid, non adventurous, judgemental lemon suckers. That would be wrong.

MadeMan · 27/10/2013 09:50

MrsWolowitz - (remember that scene in the shining when the lift doors open?)

That was on last night, ITV4, good film.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 27/10/2013 09:51

Oh Christ, I laughed really loudly at popped up looking like a vampire. Thanks for that Sinderella, made my morning!

eurochick · 27/10/2013 09:53

Each to their own.

A friend of mine was known as "the vampire" for liking oral so much he would do it regardless.

Personally I feel so minging during my period, I couldn't contemplate it.

HettiePetal · 27/10/2013 09:56

Spider

I don't think anyone's being "judgmental" - just saying, no, not for me.

BOAK at all of it.

Stravy · 27/10/2013 09:59

I've done it many moons ago , not as a 'preference' but I like oral sex and don't mind blood. DP doesn't like sex when I'm on my period at all and whilst I accept that, I am a bit Hmm about it.

Have you heard this poem?

McFox · 27/10/2013 10:00

Good grief there's an awful lot of prudes on this thread. What's the problem exactly?!! If its not for you don't comment/calm the hell down.

My DH goes down on me at any time of the month, and praise be! The only thing that's giving me the heave is the name this fella is giving it :)

LordPalmerston · 27/10/2013 10:02

Plus. Stop with the periods guys. There's really no need.

Pardon?

I hadn't realised this was the "Strawberry Kisses" appreciation thread. I thought it was, you know, a discussion?
