Sorry, didn't mean to post too soon, meant to say that if I were to travel to meet someone I would make out I was there for other reasons and just do the coffee date as I would at home. If there really was a connection then I would be happy to do a proper date before I left.

About Dutchland, what Secret said about feeling responsible if he comes here is a big part of it. If I go there, it's an adventure, I get to see his life and I get looked after and see how he treats me 'at home'. I'm looking for someone I could have a future with so all that is important to me. I'm not going to get involved with anyone unless the basics are there.

If we don't get on, its only a couple of days and I could always insist on being taken going to Amsterdam to do cultural stuff. He has been very open and direct about anything I've talked to him about so far.

Sounds like you've made your mind up Juliette, and you seem quite optimistic about him.

Yes, I find the faintest whiff of tightness to be an enormous turn off but maybe he's just being cautious, or alternatively, enormously keen for you to admire his impressive vessel ( I know that was very similar to the 'craft' joke from the other day but I just can't resist it )

Thanks for your reassuring reply OWW, I'm not sure why I'm so anxious about meeting a wrong un, a bit of early life experience in there, but I musn't let it affect my choices. I just need to keep a firm eye on the red flags. I'm a huge introvert, so it's a hurdle I just need to get past. I think I'm going to post my pic this afternoon, what's the worst that can happen? Juliette, I went away to Paris for the weekend to meet up with a possible 'date', although it was an old colleague who I'd not seen for years. As soon as I met him at the airport I knew there was no spark, but still had a fabulous time and have no regrets about the trip. I would stay in a hotel though if finances allow, as I would feel a bit vulnerable staying in a complete strangers flat if things don't work out. Go for it, Holland is lovely.

Out at 8, just got in, quick pasta tea cooking so might get five minutes for de-bouffing and general titivation. Promise to do update! Bit over-excited but it's fun.

Juliette I would go over there (as part of a general sightseeing trip..or at least on the pretext of one!) but I'd be a bit hesitant about staying on the boat, only because long ago I went to see a friend in Germany for 4 days. First couple of days were fine, on my last evening however it became clear he didn't just see me as a friend. The feeling wasn't mutual. I wasn't flying home til the next evening. It made for an uncomfortable 24 hours. I know its not quite the same situation but would just worry that if the spark isn't there for whatever reason when you meet the Dutchman it might be awkward...

I am enjoying the sunshine, and also some renewed attention from the 24 year old who has been whatsapp'ing me again today, as he does every few weeks. I am continuing to resist his considerable charms, as I have for the last year, doesn't stop him trying. Which is quite sweet really :)

Velvet I am so not staying on any boat. It's still winter as far as I'm concerned and I like my comforts. Warm house, garden, own room. We'd talked about there being no assumptions on sleeping arrangements, and I asked him straight this evening whether he would visit me. He did say he would do it happily if I preferred that. Luckily I don't and will go there to get taken care of. He's lovely on Skype, let's hope there are no undeclared RL horrid habits, manky toenails or dipso tendencies.

So it's on for the beginning of May, I just need to work out dates.

I have just endured my first trip to a GUM clinic in nearly 30 years. God I feel old. It felt very odd 'admitting' to three sexual partners in three months - but felt better when I realised it probably won't even get me first grade Jezebel on here .

I felt a bit silly going to a GUM clinic last year but was a sensible thing to do. I have not actually made it to 3 partners in 37 years .

Secret he lives in a country town, mostly farmland around. Amsterdam is an hour and a half away so doable, I've put my order in already .

Splish its probably cheaper to fly to Dutchland than go to London, no real effort as he'll pick me up from the airport etc. Mind you, a pedicure just became a priority.
