Husband confessed to watching porn

SueSueSue · 11/07/2012 21:56

Husband of 12 years has just confessed to me that he watches porn, sometimes as often as once a week. Really not sure how I feel about it.

How would others feel about it? Is it right? wrong? Am I doing something wrong?

We have a pretty good sex life generally - though sometimes we're both busy with work etc so often only make love once a week.

OP - porn better than what my DH was looking at, I assume in a wank-based way...

The official 'Girls Allowed' website.
He is not a fan of their music.

I found that strangely freakish. Grin

MissFaversam · 12/07/2012 16:15

I wouldn't like it either OP.

MushroomSoup · 12/07/2012 16:19

toutou !!!!!!!!! 'something kinda oooh' suddenly has a new meaning!

Shirsten · 12/07/2012 16:31

It would bother me for lots of reasons. I had the same issue when my ex was watching it. I know too much about how porn is made now to be ok with him objectifying women in it plus I found it disrespectful to our relationship. I know he would have felt very insecure had I been looking at similar images of hot, oiled up, well endowed men.

itsthequietones · 12/07/2012 17:14

Good post sternface.

I used to be ok with porn, then I did some reading up on it and I decided that I really, really didn't like it. Dh does still watch it occasionally (when I'm away with the dc's), he knows how I feel about it and I want him to stop watching it completely - whether he will or not is a different matter....

All those with issues with watching it due to the trafficking forced issue. Who says its always the case

MadAboutHotChoc · 12/07/2012 17:47

what percentage of trafficked women would be acceptable to you?

In my view, even if its only 1% (which it definitely isn't), its still unacceptable.

There is no way I would want any of my female family members to end up working in the porn industry where they are made to be penetrated in all orifices, suffer appalling injuries and often they end up drugged or drunk in order to cope.

MOSagain · 12/07/2012 17:47

gosh, you really do want to get your point across don't you symfem Wink

symfem · 12/07/2012 18:02

Stupid fone !
Ok what about amateur porn. Two or more consenting adults who post a video

Malificence · 12/07/2012 18:21

You have absolutely no way of knowing if the participants in "amateur" porn have consented to the video being put out on the internet.
To me, watching a couple's private moments is much worse than watching paid performers - at least paid performers know their work is being made public - at worst you could be watching a woman having sex with her partner when she has no idea he has uploaded it - which does happen.

I could not be complicit in such a violation.

kinkyfuckery · 12/07/2012 18:26

As long as he's not using it as a 'substitute' for sex with you, I'd like to think it wouldn't bother me too much.

itdoesnthurttohavemanners · 12/07/2012 18:32

What's the problem? shrugs Seems normal to me.

fiventhree · 12/07/2012 20:18

I agree with MOS.

It certainly led to more in my relationship. It led to

  1. secrecy about it before I objected and after I had expressed disinterest in whether he used it or not, followed by
  2. porn replacing our sex life to a large extent, to
  3. Internet erotic chats (apparently all one -offs) with over 200 women over a five plus year period, all hidden and denied.

So I feel different about it now.

I think that for some men it is the first in a series of steps away from the relationship, and that each step taken enables the next to seem more justified/ok than would have been the case otherwise.

user1979 · 13/07/2012 09:42

How many fellow women own a vibrator, dildo, bullet or any other pleasurable sex toy in order to " get off "? A book even? Porn is porn in anyway,be it gay porn , mature porn etc, there are millions of types of porn and most of it isn't isnt just big titted tarts!
Who needs it when you have a fulfilling sex life? Watch porn together!! me and my hubster do, I even play with myself in front of him and he does too and believe me we are perfect together

Why oh why oh why do so many women on here have so many tiny insecurities about menial things inc sex?

OP, please ravage him tonight while watching porn!!!

Open your mind FFS ( most of you in fact )

Laughable to the point I have serious tears in my eyes chuckling at this

MOSagain · 13/07/2012 10:30

sorry but its not laughable when what starts as a fascination for porn turns into a flirty/sexual email relationship with another woman and then eventually leads to sex with her

symfem · 13/07/2012 10:36

The vast majority of men watch porn. Doesnt always lead to infidelity. Blame the man not the porn

Malificence · 13/07/2012 10:44

Your post would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic user1979.
You are the one who needs to open your mind.

Malificence · 13/07/2012 10:48

Oh, and look, a very first post from a new user and it's someone belittling women who have a dislike of porn - how very unusual. Hmm

AnyFucker · 13/07/2012 10:49

user You joined Mumsnet simply to laugh at people who have a problem with porn ?

I say get a life mate

itsthequietones · 13/07/2012 10:53

I'm a little concerned that user cannot tell the difference between an inanimate object and a human being....
