hi all. on a birthing programme the other day, there was a wife giving birth , but her hubby wasnt there as he was at his mum's funeral.
i approached the subject with my dh and he was very cagey as to what he would do in same situation. i dont get on with my mil as she is pretty horrible and full of spitefull comments, to my dh as well as me and our dd.
so as you can imagine where i would want him in that situation, but i dont know what he would do.
where would you want your dh to be in this situation.
sorry i know its very sensitive subject, but just wondering how others feel

I think it was a bit mean to put your DH on the spot like that, and totally unnecessary.

Just asked DH.... he said birth immediately without thinknig.

He isnt close to his mum (they hardly speak or see each other) so I guess his loyalties lie with us now.

Not that it will ever come to that, as by the time his mother dies, I would have MORE than finished populating this world.

Would want him to attend actual funeral service but not any of the wake/tea afterwards. I have a severe dislike for my mil too but it is one of those things that you can never do again. I know missing the birth of child will never happen again either but he could be asap after and the many years of raising the child. I would hate for my dh to blame me years on for not having a chance to say goodbye formally.
