Hello, I'm Mouse and I have an ever changing relationship with alcohol.

This is the Brave Babes Battle Bus, it's a support thread for those who feel their drinking habits are not what they should be, or even those of another.

Sober, drinking or somewhere in between, come take a seat. Smile

And for those who would like to know where this all started, HERE is a link to the threads before this one.

Make THIS year THE year that you change your life, for the better. Smile

Have a Happy New Year, full of memories to treasure, not to forget.

I most certainly am on Day 3:) and today Tinselly I will NOT be drinking!

CavaNoMore · 03/01/2012 13:00

Hello. I am a long term MN person but I've only just found you here, and I'm so relieved ! Can I join in please ?

I've been drinking for about (OMG) 35 years without a break. I cut down a bit when pregnant but that's it. Incredibly, didn't realise I had a problem until very recently. Decided to stop drinking yesterday.

I guess it's easy to stop after weeks of indulgence and when you're at home. However, I'm back at work tomorrow. I am dreading coming home from work and not having the comfort of wine. It's especially hard on the two nights a week I don't get home until 9.30. By the time I've sorted out the DDs, house etc. I find I can't relax or sleep without a drink. What substitutes will help me ?

hi all. weather dreadful. had to take DH to emergency dental clinic in the end to get a huge abcess drained. Felt mildly guilty about having told him not to make such a bloody fuss beforehand Blush
a big part of mums roof has blown off and house is open to the skies and rain - what a day! Of course now I'm thinking I'm really going to need a drink tonight after all this hassle - can't get a roofer for love nor money today - hope it doesn't rain on exposed electrics in attic. Could house go on fire?
Day 4 - i can do this, i can do this.
welcome pushpin. On the rare occasions I manage to stop i find it impossible to sleep at night as can't switch the brain off. As others have said, might need medical help to get you underway but we will be here to help in any way we can. We have ALL been there/are still there1
Where is venus by the way?

Fairenuff · 03/01/2012 14:36

Oh ma that's shocking! Could your mum stay with friends until it's fixed. I was thinking the same thing myself last night, you can't expect people to go on rooves in these gales, it's just not safe. I was really worried mine would go last night because the tiles were banging loud enough to wake me!!

Now, a little reminder. You know crap will happen in your life. Not drinking won't change that and drinking won't make it better. See it for what it is, not a reason to drink.

If you can't sleep it might be worth posting as it sound like lots of us are up in the night at the moment. Is there a thread for insomniacs? If not, there should be, you could always start one Grin.

atosilis · 03/01/2012 14:43

Hi, sort of mini-boing....

Nothing since NYE so that's only 3 days. I think you'll find that's my seat, reserved, somewhere near the back. plants bum

DontCryWithYourMouthFull · 03/01/2012 15:02

Hi ! I hope you don't mind me joining you. I have been sober for 8 weeks now after drinking up to 2 bottles of wine a day. I wish I could say I was happier but I'm still very tired, exhausted, still suffering of insomnia/anxiety and I didn't lose any weight at all even if I exercise more and eat healthily..Has any of you been in this situation ?

dementedma · 03/01/2012 16:34

quick check in - have rigged some tarps at mums for tonight and the guys say it will be ok temporarily. faire thank you for the reminder.
Well done to all sticking at it.
silver hope today wasn't too awful. will be around later on the night bus...

venusandmars · 03/01/2012 17:23

Happy New Year to all.

I'm facing similar roof problems to your Mum ma. Roofer said he can come next Monday Shock. But I have a choice - I can worry about the roof sober and sane, or I can worry about the roof drunk and depressed and feeing I've let myself down and heading for a hangover. Not much competition between the options is there?

BafanaThesober · 03/01/2012 17:27

Hey All
Just a quick checkin.
Glad to see so many old and new faces.

Weather has settled down a whole load here, and I have managed to drag the kids and the dog out for a long walk to clear the cobwebs.
we I really, have decided to ban the TV for the entire month of January. We all have tons of books to read, and the children have bedrooms full of stuff that never gets looked at!!
Day 3. and this evening both children are now sitting reading on the sofa. I also discovered that DS stayed in his bed far later this morning, instead of being up at 7.30 to watch any old American rubbish on the box.

The weather over the last couple of days has meant I haven't managed to get my run in, but I suppose walking the dog is almost as good. A friend invited me to her gym instead, but gyms scare me Grin.

Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, but heyho - I am lucky to have one to go to, so I shall count my many blessings instead of bemoaning my fate.

Take care all
Bafana
xx

obrigada · 03/01/2012 19:20

dementedma · 03/01/2012 19:46

really struggling tonight - poured a nice cold pint of lager down the sink but it was a struggle. anyone out there?

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 20:05

Hey Ma. Don't do it!! I know it's hard (to say the least) but you will feel sooo much better tomorrow if you don't drink tonight. I'm not struggling tonight (only on day 2!) but will need you to spur me on tomorrow. Stay sober! You CAN do it Smile

thanks tinselly have resorted to baking a batch of muffins to keep the hands busy. all my usual evening things are associated with having a drink - nice bath, good book, watch TV, go on MN.
i thought by day 4 it would be easier but still not sure I'm going to get to bed tonight drink free.....I will get to 8.30 then see.

silver are you lurking? are you ok?

Bproud · 03/01/2012 20:45

Come on Babes, you can do it! Stuff down those muffins and chocolate, embrace the sugar hit!

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 21:06

Yay! The demon has fucked the fuck off!

Can I have a warm muffin with a bit of butter on please? Well I'm not drinking and apparently I need all the comfort food that I can get my hands on.
