Hello, I'm Mouse and I have an ever changing relationship with alcohol.

This is the Brave Babes Battle Bus, it's a support thread for those who feel their drinking habits are not what they should be, or even those of another.

Sober, drinking or somewhere in between, come take a seat. Smile

And for those who would like to know where this all started, HERE is a link to the threads before this one.

Make THIS year THE year that you change your life, for the better. Smile

Have a Happy New Year, full of memories to treasure, not to forget.

Storms kept me awake too obrigada or was it the lack of booze! Definitely not feeling boingy yet! But hey ho, hey ho, it's back to work I go!

Bloody well done ma' I feel your pain and am also worried about reaching for that bottle when I get home tonight.

Thinking of you today silver' hope it's not too harrowing x

How was your evening Isindie?

Day 3 here and today I will not be drinking.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 03/01/2012 07:08

silver well done on a whole week. and good luck today, will be thinking of you.

dementedma - you are being very much applauded by me - i'm so pleased and proud to see you doing so well.

good luck everyone. ds is back to school tomorrow so i must get school uniform and pe kit etc sorted but no real pressure for anything anything else as tomorrow i'll be child free and can hopefully get lots done. though i may settle for just walking the dog twice and doing lots of nice me things tomorrow. is it awful to look forward to them going back to school? it's not entirely selfish - he's ready too i think. dread to think of those summer holidays!

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 08:35

Morning all.

This wind is ridiculous. Hard to sleep when there's all that energy around.

Silver you've done a week! That's bloody amazing! Will be thinking of you today. And your mum too.

Ma 3 days is bloody brilliant too. Do you feel better yet? Hope you're prepared for the stress of work. But at least there'll be less cooking/cleaning involved. I so hear you on the meals front. For days and days over Christmas all I seemed to do was cook (and 'fancy' Christmas meals at that), lay the table, serve, then clear away and wash up. Then start all over again a couple of hours later. Am really looking forward to salads, stir-frys and the like too. Pleased to hear I'm not the only one not completely embracing my 'mother at Christmas' role. Thank goodness it's over now. And a happy new year to you all Grin

Saf guess whether or not I'm looking forward to the DC going back to school/nursery...!! Counting down the hours now Grin

Mouse* I hope you and yours are all well and that you had a nice time away.

^Obrigada* I don't understand technology. Better 2 posts than none I suppose!

Day 2 for me here. Again.

Have good days everyone

thurso1 · 03/01/2012 08:54

Morning all,

Dropped Dh at the station this morning, first time I've seen that side of 8am for 10 days!!!

Sabotaged myself on Monday night by thinking no-one is telling me to resolve not to drink for a year (not that anyone did), I'll do what I like, I'm a rebel [complete idiot icon], I got through a bottle and a glass more of cava, which sadly, and I can only admit to this here, I didn't think was too bad, as it wasn't a bottle and a half of Sauvignon [idiot again]. Lots of wine still in the house, but nothing last night, and not today. I want to wake up tomorrow feeling rational(ish) like today, not anxious and upset like yesterday morning.
'Fess up over!, sorry to be long, it helps to write it down.

Mouse I hope you had a lovely weekend away, and that Nemo is better, when does he go back to playschool?

Ma Well done on three days, I am sending wild applause and fanfares for you to keep in your head today! When does DD go back to Spain? DC1 went back to London last Friday, and Dc2 goes back to uni on Friday, it's going to be a very quiet house after that.

Oops, I didn't mean to make this such a long post, love to everyone.
Speak later

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 03/01/2012 08:55

my confession is this - i'm back to having to have a quick drink before leaving the house Blush

FairstiveGreetings · 03/01/2012 09:12

Hi all Smile and Happy New Year! Am just grabbing a seat then off to change my name back, see you in a bit . . .

dementedma · 03/01/2012 09:15

Day 4 - wild winds outside and DH pacing the house with raging toothache. Trying to find an emergency dentist is hopeless.
silver thinking of you today.
saf will a strong coffee do instead?

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 03/01/2012 09:23

nope.

however i've managed to massively ease down the anxiety pills i was given to get through the meds change so hopefully i can do the same with the 'alcohol' medication too now.

Fairenuff · 03/01/2012 09:27

. . . right I should be back under my old name now.

Saf did you mean in the morning, or just generally througout the day? My confession, I ate shortbread for breakfast, even though I have gained 6lb over Christmas!! Shock How is that possible, that's about half a pound a day. I blame the cheese. Oh, ok and the alcohol. So, new year, new resolve to shed those pounds and more. This will mean kicking the booze to the kerb. C'mon babes we can do it. (Sorry but I'm not starting til next Monday). I am gearing up to it and getting my head in the right place. (And finishing all the cheese and chocolate in the house). But I am cheerleading the rest of you who have already made a start. I could do with the exercise anyway! Grin

These storms are scary! Everything is rattling around the house and I thought the roof was going to take off. I was so tired last night I was all tucked up asleep by 8.30 and it's a good job because I woke at 3.30 to howling gales and just cowered under the duvet the rest of the night!! Eeeek!

Ma if you can't find a dentist could you get a pharmacist to prescribe some strong painkillers in the meantime? Or maybe even antibiotics?

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 03/01/2012 09:29

not in the morning but like say i'm going to take the dog out for a walk with my son or i have to go to a families house, i will be getting everything/one ready and then make some pretext to go back in the kitchen and have a quick drink to 'steel' myself. that urge to do that is back and i have been going with it.

PushPin · 03/01/2012 09:34

Hi. Can I join you? I'm afraid I am totally messed up. I'm on 2 bottles of wine a day. I cut down to one yesterday and this morning the shakes and nausea are pretty bad after a night of no sleep. I want to stop now so badly - I have small children.

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 09:47

Hi Push, welcome aboard! I have young children too. They are the main reason I'm trying to stop drinking, yet I must confess they are also one of the reasons why I drink in the first place Sad Posting here is a great start. Things can be so much better Smile

Saf sounds like you're on track with the meds change plan. Hopefully needing a drink before you leave the house is just a temporary thing. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Faire happy new year to you too! I put on 5lb in 10 days!! And I avoided the chocolates! Diet starts today.

thurso I could confess to similar amounts etc as you. And you're right, a big incentive to not drink is to avoid the anxiety/shame/guilt the morning after. Why oh why do we drink when it makes us feel so dreadful?!

PushPin · 03/01/2012 09:51

thank you Tinselly - I have no idea why I drink anymore - I never feel nice anymore - I just feel less ill for a bit then go back to feeling ill. The worst thing when I cut back is the nausea and retching

Fairenuff · 03/01/2012 09:53

Hello Pushpin welcome to the bus. I wonder, have you spoken to your GP about whether it's medically ok for you stop on your own. Whatever you want to do, we will help and support you Smile.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 03/01/2012 09:55

absolutely welcome pushpin.

GP appointment sounds like a very good idea to me.

Fairenuff · 03/01/2012 09:57

Hey TTM Smile

Have you given any thought yet to changing your name back. How about Totally Terrific Mum? Something positive for the new year?

Saf my unprofessinal opinion is, one thing at a time. Wait until your meds settle down before you try to tackle anything else. It sounds like you are eating, drinking, etc. in moderation at the moment which is bloody marvellous actually x

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 09:59

Push it doesn't make any sense does it? We all know we shouldn't drink and that we'd feel so much better if we didn't, but we still do it. Well some of us do. Have you read some of the earlier posts from people who have stopped? They are obviously feeling fab, it really inspires me to keep trying to give up. When I've stopped (only for a few days or a week at a time unfortunately) I haven't had nausea etc, just aches and flu-like symptoms, so have no advice regarding that I'm afraid. I'm sure someone else will hop on board and be able to offer some words of wisdom at some point.

Be strong. Today we will not be drinking Smile

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 10:02

faire Grin bless you, I must be hiding my self-esteem issues on here!! Will give it some thought. Somewhere in between 'silly' and 'totally terrific' is needed I think!

catinboots · 03/01/2012 10:34

Day 1 here.

AT work drinking lemon and ginger tea.

Starving too.

Dreading this evening Sad

obrigada · 03/01/2012 10:44

cat try not to project, just take it an hour at a time or even sometimes a minute at a time.
Went to shop to get something for brekkie and local shopkeeper hands me my Xmas pressie . . 2 bottles of wine Hmm. Felt like raging alkie walking home at 10 in the morning with 2 bottles of wine in a plastic bag Blush

TinsellyTinsellyMum · 03/01/2012 10:56

Cat if you're hungry, eat something. Anything! I find it hard to deny myself food as well as booze. Makes me a right grumpy cow. Just concentrate on the not drinking. That's the only important thing right now.

obrigada but you're not an alike, you're on day 3 of not drinking don't you know Smile
