Hello, I'm Mouse and I have an ever changing relationship with alcohol.

This is the Brave Babes Battle Bus, it's a support thread for those who feel their drinking habits are not what they should be, or even those of another.

Sober, drinking or somewhere in between, come take a seat. Smile

And for those who would like to know where this all started, HERE is a link to the threads before this one.

Make THIS year THE year that you change your life, for the better. Smile

Have a Happy New Year, full of memories to treasure, not to forget.

Ma - you are on my love. Have arranged to do tea time shift with Mum so that will deal with wine o'clock time....I am really really struggling but this morning I poured pretty much a whole bottle of champagne down the sink - a christmas present from work.......i have to have to do this.

So Day 1 bring it on.

Also Dp got a gig tonight - first one with new band - won't tell me where it is but you can find anything out on google Grin - so i plan to surprise him and will be driving so that takes care of this evening.

I WANT TO BE SOBER FFS - WHY CAN'T I DO IT!

TODAY I WILL NOT BE DRINKING.....................X

Silver66 · 07/01/2012 08:55

Hey Christi xxx

Thing - erm yes - I seem to have a very high tolerance to them tho - not had any problems so far - anyway nearly finished them and not drinking again (at least for today).

I start on Campral tomorrow..................

I have done residential de-tox, home de-tox with CAT team and several home detox alone, so am an old hand at this tbh

But I understand what you are saying - and I know one thing - IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN................and there is no point disguising your feelings with tranqs..........

So any support gratefully received. Intend to keep busy today - will have iphone with me but am crap on it Grin xx

Silver66 · 07/01/2012 08:56

ps What is a half life???

Thingumy · 07/01/2012 09:19

It means how long it stills in your body.Librium stays in your system for a good while that's while they use it for detox.

I've just completed my first detox with Librium (and campral ) and hear what you are saying,I couldn't of completed my 8 days without my detox keyworkers support ( plus I wouldn't of had my Librium if I had blown a positive!).You need to be a tough cookie silver and steam on with this, day one right?

Best of luck for today and starting your campral script, lots of folk find them fab I sadly had a skin reaction to them and had to stop taking them ( quite common side effect)

I always lurk but don't post,I'm not one for opening up but keep battling,it does get easier folks once you pull yourself out of the habit of picking that first drink up.

Hope you all great sober weekends! Smile

Keep at it silver! Thinking of you

Thingumy · 07/01/2012 09:24

Ps excuse my typos! Blush

Mouseface · 07/01/2012 10:00

Good morning, tis me, Mouse

Hello Thingumy - fab to see you posting here, I recognise you from other areas of MN. You sound as though you are on the right side of your battle right now, well done!

Fancy sticking around a while? I've made Eggs Benedict for breakfast if you'd like to help yourself. Oh and there's fresh coffee in the pot and tea on the way. Smile

Silver - You know what you have to do. You keep getting to 'Fuck it' o'clock? There seems to be a trigger every night, not necessarily at the same time, or in the same place but something makes you pick up.

Do you think that there is an element of 'because I can' in that or because you 'want a drink so therefore you'll damn well have one'? Are you lonely? Worried about your relationship with DP? Or is there something going on with the family?

You know where I am. If you need a break, please just say. I think you've got to break the cycle. You can do it, you can do just one day can't you? You've done MORE than that in the past. Why not make today that ONE day again? Not because you can't drink due to other commitments, but because you DO NOT WANT TO DRINK TODAY?

You need to really sit and think about what you're doing to yourself over and over again. You do so well and then fall again. Why? I'm really worried about you and wish you'd open up so we could help and support you more.

There's just something that doesn't sit right with me...... like you're hiding from something or drinking to block things out?

Keep posting xxx

Silver I have thought long and hard about posting my thoughts, and I hope that you take them in the spirit they are intended...

You need to get a grip.
This could be a great time for you, you have the support of your family, GP, other professionals, and all the Brave Babes. Grasp the moment, stop giving yourself excuses and get on with it.

The patience of those who love you and the professionals around you will eventually run out.

The Babes all love you and want to support you, Thingummy has some useful comments and experience as well.
Carpe Diem! I wish you the best of luck.
Rx

Thingumy · 07/01/2012 10:07

Thanks for the welcome mousie! Smile

I'll slurp my coffee and run as I'm off to work now...

I'll stick around and help/support/moan where helpful Grin

Positive thinking folks! Catch you all later!

SillyStrokeSensibleMum · 07/01/2012 10:33

Morning all.

Welcome Thingumy. Well done on a whole month! Can you tell us about the benefits of being sober for a month? I'm aiming to not drink for the whole of January and it would be fab to hear about how much better you feel now. But if you don't want to, don't worry! If I do it, I know I'll feel better. Hell, everything will be better!

Silver, good luck with the ongoing battle. It's rock, but you CAN do this. We all can. We just need to be determined and stubborn and not give in.

Day 6 for me. Bring it on Smile

Have good days Babes

Mouseface · 07/01/2012 10:50

SSSM - a friend of mine doesn't drink after NYD. He's dry for the whole of January and loses so much weight! I really notice a difference in him. His mood is better, he's like a different person.

he's not a 'heavy' drinker but when he does drink, he will have several beers and a bottle of wine between friends.

I'd love to not drink but it's my father's 60th, my birthday and our friend's 60th this month so I'm planning to not drink on school nights (so far so good) and then worry about the celebration nights when they arrive.

How are you feeling today? Did you manage to sleep? Smile

OP posts:
SillyStrokeSensibleMum · 07/01/2012 11:19

Morning Mouse Smile

Yeah, slept well last night (thank *%$€). DS stayed in his bed all night. Please let it continue! Did you and Nemo sleep well? I think you sleep better after drinking? Well I can't sleep for love nor money after drinking (why do I drink??). I slept so deeply last night that my pillow was wet from all the dribbling!! Blush Attractive Grin

Thanks for letting me know about your friend. I wonder why he continues drinking when he obviously feels so much better. Same could be asked of lots of us though Sad Doubt I'll lose much weight when I'm nibbling my way through entire boxes of Jaffa Cakes. Have just put a box in the fridge to chill for tonight! Only a week or so ago it was a bottle of wine I'd be putting in the fridge (just in case I fancied it later...), followed by a second into the freezer for a quick top-up after I'd reached the 'fuck it' state of mind Blush. It feels great to be making some progress Smile

You're right, it doesn't sound like January's the right month for you to be cutting it out completely. I have no plans to go out this month so it's easier for me. No way could I have cut it out in December though (more for the triggeryness rather than the social side though, shudder). Has to be the right time. Will you let us know when it's your birthday? If you can. Wouldn't like you to have your special day without having all your bus buddies wishing you a happy, happy birthday and making you a big, fat, birthday cheesecake Grin

getabloodygrip · 07/01/2012 11:42

Just checking in, hello all.

Day 6 begins. God I actually feel really good. I feel lively and I slept from 10.30 til 8am and it was fantastic. Still yawned when I woke up though!!!!! Grin. When I queried this with DH this morning (who also slept very well) and said, how come I am still yawning, but I slept brilliantly and feel great? He said, dunno, but this just goes to show "Alcohol really f*cks you up".
Deep philosophical stuff hey?! Smile

DH and I are at a special "do" tomorrow evening, been in the diary for months, so tomorrow night is a night out of my new regime, but I am going to keep up with the day counting (so Monday = Day 7) because it is such a one off, planned in advance event...

Can't wait to make double figures. I am pretty sure I have never done it before (bar pregnancies!)

venusandmars · 07/01/2012 11:45

Posting quickly after being away for a couple of days. Christi how lovely to see you again and glad that the job is going OK. Trinity always welcome Grin

Hope it all goes well today silver, I think you sound much more determined than ever before, and I hope you can use that to good effect.

Fairenuff · 07/01/2012 11:58

Hey Thingumy well done on one month Smile and thanks for the refreshments Mouse, I feel they have been a bit lacking on the bus recently, tut tut Hmm Grin. I think not drinking school nights might be a good way to go. That's how I started and, if I didn't have any social events at the weekend, I didn't drink then either.

It's funny how quickly you can get into the habit of not drinking. Especially when the benefits kick in. I haven't been to work with a hangover for a long, long time now and I don't know how I used to do it.

SSSM you are like a breath of fresh air, keep posting your thoughts. Smile

Well, I watched Biggest Loser this morning so I am now off to empty my larder of all the leftover holiday crap Grin. I am going to put it on the kitchen table and whatever is not eaten by Sunday evening is going in the bin. I am restocking with all the basics for a happier, healthier lifestyle. Salad, fruit, veg, brown rice, wholewheat pasta, lean meat, quorn, low fat sauces, herbs and spices, fruit teas, herbal teas, soda water, lime, fruit juice, etc. No booze! Starting Monday, it's 30lb in 90 days.

But I might keep the jaffa cakes Grin.

obrigada · 07/01/2012 14:24

Afternoon all:) Day 7 here, had a great nights sleep, went for a wak this morning, now just have to summon up the interest to do some housework Hmm

BafanaThesober · 07/01/2012 14:39

Afternoon All

Tis very quiet in my house this afternoon, DD is out with a friend, and DS is out with his Grandad walking the dog.
I went out early this morning, and had breakfast and coffee with some friends. A most excellent way to start the weekend, so much better than waking up bleary eyed with a tongue like sandpaper Grin.

Keep going everyone, it gets easier and easier, and I can honestly say that I can go days and days where drinking does not play any part in my thoughts, and I honestly thought that was never possible.

I met someone that I hadn't seen for ages on Thursday, and she was amazed at how well I look, and she is right, I actually look like a normal person now, and not a half shut knife all the time, and the difference in the Christmas photos between 2010 and 2011 is actually scary!!

Anyway, off to do something productive, although I am not sure what yet.

This sobriety thing is so worth it, please please keep going.

Bafana
xx

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2012 15:39

Hello all, almost bedtime here, and I've just pigged out on cassoulet and chocolate fondant. Pretty sure that wasn't in the diet plan!

Aching from a session with a personal trainer this am, but a satisfying ache, so to speak.

Resisted the urge for a drink at a friends lunchtime birthday BBQ. Yay!

Mouseface · 07/01/2012 15:54

Afternoon, tis me (again) Mouse Grin

I can second waking up to fresh coffee and a nice breakfast on a Saturday rather than a head full of jack hammers and a belly full of dog vomit.

Just had craving for baileys coffee - found the bottle lurking in press when tidying away - was very tempted but played the video through to the end and resisted:)

Mouseface · 07/01/2012 16:27

Well done Obrigada Smile

I know for a fact that I would not be able to resist a Baileys coffee. Not a chance so you are a much stronger Babe than I.

Nemo is watching Bear In The Big Blue House. DD used to watch it and mu sister got him the DVD for Christmas. He's not moved for the last 20 minutes! Bless him.
