how often do you see them? Only asking as my mother may be moving closer and I wanted to know what would be considered normal.

I see mine about once a week or once every two weeks. I'm actually quite grateful for that contact with them as I still feel like part of the family and the kids still get to see them. I can not drive yet so it's difficult for me to get to see them as the buses to theirs are a nightmare.

My mum lives over 300 miles away so we dont see her very often at all. Lat time I saw her must have been about 3 years ago.

DuelingFanjo · 07/04/2011 21:00

I see mum mum weekly since I had a baby, but I like my mum.

usualsuspect · 07/04/2011 21:00

I see my mum a couple of times a week

madamedeluca · 07/04/2011 21:01

Can you tell I'm not keen on mine?!

PILs once a week more or less.
Parents, depends on workload! Over the last week (and for the next 5 weeks) every day probably! But as DuelingFanjo says, I like me mum Smile

Same here - once a week or once every two weeks. I see my parents during the week (both retired), and MIL at the weekends. We just pop in for a cuppa or go out for a walk together - nothing too formal. We used to go to MIL's for lunch and it would use up a whole day, which is ok from time to time butt became a bit much every week. Shortish trips work well now. I'd say we spend 1-2 hours with each 'set' each week or two weeks. Sometimes longer if there's a holiday/event.

Pagwatch · 07/04/2011 21:02

My in laws are about 10 mins away.
Last saw them in 2002

colditz · 07/04/2011 21:02

If i didn't visit, then not for 6 months at a time.

Mother lives a 20 minute walk away - she also has a car.

Hmm

With my parents it varies but probably averages once every 3 weeks but more in school hols when they like to whisk DS off for days out.

MIL lives alone & is elderly so DH goes at least one a week.

I would just say do not get into a rut of it's Sunday afternoon so we have to spend it at Granny's - unless you really really want to.

onepieceoflollipop · 07/04/2011 21:03

Ils live about 5 minutes away. We see them about once a month. (would prefer to see them less but won't bore you with the details)
Visits don't "count" unless they are mid afternoon on a Sunday, lasting 1-2 hours and the children have to be seen and not heard.

otoh my own parents live 2 hours away and we see more of them. :)

onepieceoflollipop · 07/04/2011 21:04

x-post re Sunday afternoons with munstermum.

OmicronPersei8 · 07/04/2011 21:04

MILs can be a useful place for DHs to visit with DC while you get some peace and quiet, I like my MIL so usually go too, but sometimes stay at home and have a rest. I've found my MIL easier than my parents in some way, as she keeps a respectful distance whereas my parents want to run my life tend to want to be more involved.

bintofbohemia · 07/04/2011 21:04

My mother lives about 25 mins away. We speak several times a week and see each other at least once. But we really like each other. Grin

herladyship · 07/04/2011 21:05

My pil live with us in a granny annexe, self contained but I see them every day!!!!

bintofbohemia · 07/04/2011 21:05

Used to live round the corner from my dad and stepmum and only saw them once a month or so.

MerryMarigold · 07/04/2011 21:05

My parents live an hour away. They come every week to help me out with kids and I like it. I think when kids are all full time in school, it will probably be less often...but would like to think I was in 'popping' distance to pop round once a week at least.

Firawla · 07/04/2011 21:08

pils live a couple of streets away, see them once or twice a week normally

MrsRhettButler · 07/04/2011 21:08

whenever she needs a lift to the garden centre something or whenever i need her to have dd overnight for an hour or so

but to be fair, dd spends more time with her than i do

ginmakesitallok · 07/04/2011 21:09

MIL looks after DC for us 3 days a week, we all go to her's for tea on Saturday and usually pop in on a Sunday. We get on very well

TheArmadillo · 07/04/2011 21:12

PILs between 1-3 times a week depending on busy they are. But we like them.

nethunsreject · 07/04/2011 21:12
