how often do you see them? Only asking as my mother may be moving closer and I wanted to know what would be considered normal.

my family lives about 30 minutes away and i see them a couple of times a week.

ILs live 7 hours away and we see them once or twice every few years. would see them more if they made the effort to come and see us. we made a descision a few years ago when ds arrived that it wouldn't always be us doing the 7+hour drive. so we rarely see them.

We used to live 200 miles from my mum and 10 mins drive from the ILs. Now we live 30 mins from my mum and 200 miles from ILs.

We generally see mum once a week now- sometimes more often & sometimes less. She has got into the habit of "dropping in" on Saturday at tea time and expecting to be fed, which is getting a bit annoying. But the upside is she gets DD from nursery when we are stuck, and has had her overnight for us, so it probably balances out.

The best thing is we can visit for an hour or so and then go home We don't have the enforced all-weekend visit that a 4 hour drive entails.

Parents - On demand, they live 500 yards away
PIL's - Twice a week, they live about a mile away

We all get on very well.

My Mum lives a 30 second walk from me, and I find twice a week is too much

PILs usually once a week, sometimes more often but usually in that case there is a specific reason eg birthday, babysitting, etc.

BIL all the fucking time more often. He usually only drops in for 30mins or so though.

My parents are 90 miles away and I try and see them about every 6 weeks.

Too bloody often (MIL)

My MIL lives 20 mins away. She arranged in October 2007 to come every week to do our ironing - she's done it about 5 times.
We are 20 mins in the right wrong direction so she never passes our house.
I like it that way.
