Hi I am venus and I am an alcoholic.

Thanks to the first thread by Jesuswhatnow I have not had a drink for a long time.

There are lots of us on here, please lurk, post, whatever does it for you. If you are worried about how much you drink and your inability to stop when you want to, then someone on here can probably understand.

noteven I'm sorry it didn't work tonight. Do you know when the next meeting is? Now is the moment to get a babysitter organised for the next meeting, can you get DP to sit for you, or a Mum from nursery/toddlers/whatever, you don't have to tell them where you are going and could pay back in kind.

notevenamousie · 20/11/2010 21:17

It was the lady on the AA helpline - they said it was ok as long as it was an open meeting.
I need to try and talk to DP tomorrow, which isn't going to be easy.

Silver66 · 20/11/2010 21:17

Noteven - you have the flu - of course you are going to feel shaky - don't worry it will pass. Remember you are tackling such a huge thing while very very ill with flu. So godammit the hugest respect coming your way Babe Smile xx

Mouseface · 20/11/2010 21:24

Ma - here for you xx

noteven - agree with Ma, YOU WENT!!! A massive achievement in itself. Smile

Whitenapteen · 20/11/2010 21:25

noteven you have had a shock and you are seeing the hangover through to the end. Make sure you drink some water or soft drinks and try to eat something. You are safe and DD is safe. Is there anyone that you can call tomorrow to help you - would your mum be able to come. I know she is a long way away, but do you think she would want to/be able to come?

Silver66 · 20/11/2010 21:30

Noteven - you have had a set back - try and get some sleep and think again tomorrow. DD is asleep so go and cuddle up with her for tonight - you are doing brilliantly - you set off to go to the meeting and through no fault of your own, you couldn't go. That is a MASSIVE achievement. And remember you are feeling like shit BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT FLU. Try and get some rest babe. xxxxxx

Silver66 · 20/11/2010 21:37

White - where do you fancy - Derbyshire (bit close to home for me). The Lakes, Scotland, The South Downs (heard of them but no idea where they are), Wales - your shout babe!!

Whitenapteen · 20/11/2010 21:43

How about Northumberland? Never been there but it's got coastline, castles and history and I think we would all appreciate a gentle amble along quite country roads.

Off to spend rest of the evening with DH. Sleep well everyone.

ClearAndPresent · 20/11/2010 21:55

Just wanted to say goodnight everyone. Got through the evening without a drink and once I'd eaten didn't want one at all. Thanks for the support.

noteven I hope you get some sleep and start tomorrow feeling just that little bit better. Just keep taking baby steps.

Mouseface · 20/11/2010 22:19

Well done for all of those who managed not to drink despite massive wobbles. Smile

Silver - DH is away so you looking after me in the morning will be lovely. I'll bring the tea, coffee and OJs. xxx

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 01:25

I know I'll be talking to myself but I just need to post. This night is endless and I feel truly terrible. Shaky, sweaty, struggling to type. Also struggling to sleep. I think I will go to the out of hours doctor in the morning and ask them to help me.

RWhites · 21/11/2010 02:25

well I am here. have you put the kettle on??? xxx

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 02:44

Thank you so much for replying - why are you up at this awful hour?
I don't think I could stomach coffee. I've got a bottle of water that I'm sipping. I'm very shaky. I should have gone to the drs yesterday in advance really. I'm hyperventilating but trying not to and I don't think that's helping. I just need to get through til morning.

ChristianaCatesby · 21/11/2010 03:32

Not even why don't you give NHS 24 a call. Explain symptoms to them. You are having a tough time and have flu on top of that. Have you had any paracetamol for the fever? Also don't want to be really bossy but just drinking water can make you feel a bit sicker as you need some calories too and some sugars and salts. Have you got a digestive biscuit you could have? Or a piece of toast? Any diarylyte sachets you could make up? Some juice you could dilute?

I'm awake listening to dd2 cough away hoping she's not wheezing.

How's your dd?

ChristianaCatesby · 21/11/2010 03:34

Are you still hyperventilating?

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 03:45

I've had some chocolate. I was wondering about NHS Direct but guessing they would say I need to go to the out of hours doctor and I don't want to be waking DD up at this hour. When she wakes up we're going to have breakfast and baths and go to the doctors I think. Does that sound sensible? I don't think you are bossy, I've had so much help the last few days here.

ChristianaCatesby · 21/11/2010 03:52

If you are still feeling terrible I'd give them a cal. I don't think that they would suggest you getting dd up, perhaps they can send a doctor to you, or at least get you set up with an appointment for first thing in the morning.

Good that you're eating. When did you last sleep?

ChristianaCatesby · 21/11/2010 03:53

Oh and sorry yes it's NHS direct for you (NHS 24 for us north of the border!)

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 04:19

I got probably 3 hours sleep in the early part of the night. Have put some juice in my water. I phoned NHS direct - they said it could be up to 4 hours until they phone back Shock so I guess I will just go to the walk in centre.

ChristianaCatesby · 21/11/2010 04:28

Well done for calling sorry for the delay but they may call you back sooner, you never know

I know three hours isn't much sleep but I promise you within a few days you'll be sleeping so much better, once you've detoxed and once you start to get over flu. I have pretty bad insomnia - as you can see!- but the one boring thing I know is that it does improve. And a lack of sleep isn't going to kill you. Of course it's very demoralising though nd always strikes at the time when you feel you most need and deserve rest!

Can you lie in bed, turn radio on, at least try to rest your body if you can't switch off your mind? Or have you a book you can read and read until perhaps you nod off?

Thinking of you x

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 05:19

Struggling, seriously feel rough and DD is up. I'm going to run myself a bath. Going to the dr's at 8.

notevenamousie · 21/11/2010 06:57

I'm sorry to be being so needy. I've e-mailed my DP - couldn't bring myself to say it. I think he'll finish with me. I'm scared but I guess it's one hour at a time for today. I really hope they'll give me something to take the edge off. I'm being the best mum to DD that I can be, trying to do a few bits of housework, and just existing. Today I will not be drinking.
