Radio 2 drive time - any idea of new presenter?

I was listening to radio 2, and unless I’ve missed it, they’ve still not announced who’s taking on the drive time slot from Sara Cox’s move to breakfast. Given they announced her move to breakfast in April, you’d hope they already know by now who’s got the gig.

Has anyone heard rumours? Seems excessive length of time they’ve had fill-ins. Surely someone must have been offered it by now!

MoL over the weekend state Joel Dommett turned it down. Seems they’re auditioning Owain now. How many more need to audition 🤷🏻‍♀️

There arent many who wish to take that on. I like Gary Davis, but he's a fill in

I hire like Jason Manfords stint, but he’s unlikely to want the job, he’s got too much else going on.

I'm really enjoying Owain this week. I think there has also been talk of OJ Borg too

I don't like Owain so another week of listening to a different station after 4pm. Hated Joel Dommett 'Uncle Joel' as I can't abide being spoken to like I'm a 5 year old. I don't like Ritchie Anderson either! I love Gary, but then he was on Radio 1 during my teen years so that might have something to do with it! I think OJ would be alright but we really don't need another TV presenter with minimal music knowledge who wants to 'banter' endlessly with the travel person or the public....(I can't listen on Saturday because I don't find Romesh in the least bit funny or entertaining and I loathe Sally Traffic who appears on every dammed show and is loved by every presenter apparently- god I'm old and grumpy!)

I’m surprised there’s not been more chatter round poaching from other stations, I did think anyone close to aging out on radio 1 might be in the running or from commercial.

it does seem unusually long time, Scott Mills went in March, by end of April Sara Cox was announced for breakfast. I assume they had got her signed on the dotted line before that so from mid April they’ll have been looking for a new drive time person. I wondered if they were waiting to announce it just before their Sterling event but that came and went without news.

I'd love Gary Davis to do it.

Radio 1 have had a shuffle. I wonder if Melvin or James are going to R2.

Out of all the stand ins, Jason Mansford has been my fave by a long mile. Don’t think he’d want it though.

I did like Jason Manford as well, and he’s done radio before for absolute, but he’s got a lot on with stand up and theatre, can’t see him taking it.

How about Greg James from Radio 1?

there’s often difference of opinions on DJs, what various people want as a balance between music knowledge and entertaining chat/ease talking to callers etc, everyone seems agreed to not like the various traffic and travel people being “entertaining”. Ritchie Anderson, Sally traffic, no one loves them do they? At best, tolerate. Why do they insist on encouraging this?

Would be amazing but not sure he’s ready to move on!

I liked Angela scanlon when she filled in over the summer.

Owain gets on my nerves, he’s far too chirpy and irritating

Owain, probably a nice bloke, but no. Very lightweight. Can't bear his early show. Hate that there's so many weak presenters.

Joel is a teethy knob. In the ilk of Vernon, Jason, Romesh, Emma, et fucking c. We need a cool , yet not box ticking cool, female to fit the bill. There's a lot of young middle age "famous for something else" going on.

I couldn't stand Jason Manford in that slot and I do quite like him! He used to present on Absolute Radio at the weekend iirc.

Gary is great in whatever slot he fills in on.
The current crop are just bloody awful.
I turned off when that Joel bloke was on, absolutely dire and I haven’t listened since.
I do have a bit of a fondness for sally traffic though .

I can't believe that people like Gary Davis. Cheesy, dated and smug. And those megamixes- just stop murdering those songs, stop it now.

Melvin Odoom from R1 I do quite like. But he needs an ensemble to bounce off.

Nick Grimshaw maybe? Now hear me out, he was brilliant in the drive time slot on R1, it was only when he took over breakfast he became annoying. Actually I think Sara Cox is similar, loved her at drive time but find her meh at brekky. Nick did some cover on R2 and I really enjoyed him.
