Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Several people saying Pat should have paid for the window, donated produce etc...
Except Pat's grandson was only half of the duo that caused the damage.

DeanElderberry · 02/09/2026 14:07

Pat was the one who took it on herself to slag off the victim. Nothing to stop Helen and the Maliks stopping pocket money and extracting work from the young men, but organising the work is a job that really has to be done by an adult.

Technically, unless that ball was a serious wide, the one who was batting caused the damage.

MorningCoffeePlease · 02/09/2026 14:59

I see your points @DeanElderberry and @Gonners.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 02/09/2026 15:12

I don't see Justin as a 'Nicky Haslam' but it made me smile. I can picture him - pompous, ex-City, wears a tweedy sports jacket and chinos and suede shoes in the country, probably wears 'designer' country wear - 'Fairfax & Favour' or that garish buttons one type brands not Barbour.

Salmon sperm injections are a thing apparently 5 things about polynucleotides to know before trying the trending salmon sperm treatment - The Mirror

Joanne is the stable girl.

I'd have told Pat to go away in a 'Foxtrot Oscar' way. Henry is not far off 16.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 02/09/2026 15:31

I added the link having not read it. It was one of the first ones that came up that I thought might not get blocked.

What is the brand I was thinking of? Holland something? It's a 'nouveau riche' Cheltenham sort of look.

I can remember somebody local getting a Burberry wax jacket and everybody thinking 'Why??'. I love my stinky Barbour, bought, of course, decades ago from the local agricultural supplier who was a second cousin of my father or something like that.

Where would one get an expensive burgundy velour tracksuit for the country gentleman?

Molecule · 02/09/2026 17:33

@Every1ElseInKnowsley you're thinking of Holland Cooper.

I imagine Justin in Saville Row suits, with a beautifully cut tweed jacket or two for his country days. Brian will have the very old tweed jacket and shiny with age Barbour. Absolutely no purple velour tracksuits.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/09/2026 17:54

I bet Matt would have been delighted to have a velour tracksuit. This chap looks thrilled with his.

"Absolutely no purple velour tracksuits."

Except that we know Lilian bought him one to match hers, and they both wore them to be photographed for their Christmas card in 2019: her, Justin and Ruby in matching outfits. (barf) Then she got him another the following year. Maybe it is an annual aberration.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/09/2026 17:58

(I'm back home, by the way. My Mum died peacefully in hospital, and I can't praise the NHS enough for the care she received, fortunately. My brother and I were able to spend quite a bit of time with her in her last days. Thanks for all your kind words.)

Here they are.

Thanks @Molecule . That is the one I was thinking of.

Sidebeforeself · 02/09/2026 18:27

Aw @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g sorry but I’m glad you’re okay and you got to spend time with her x

SockPlant · 02/09/2026 19:00

I'm so sorry for your loss @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g Flowers

Hercisback · 02/09/2026 19:17

I'm sorry to hear about your mum and it sounds like a peaceful end.

Tasha has caused a skin reaction in Justin, calling it now.

Choccyp1g · 02/09/2026 19:29

Sorry for your loss Gaspode. Flowers

LaMarschallin · 02/09/2026 19:36

I've no idea but will Fallon have a better claim on the house if Harrison moves out?
I presume he paid more for it since he earns more than Fallon.

Choccyp1g · 02/09/2026 19:41

I think he may have put in a bigger deposit too. I recall they thought they couldn't afford to buy when the landlord wanted to sell, then he revealed he'd been saving up for some time, and maybe his parents helped as well.

MorningCoffeePlease · 02/09/2026 20:38

Sorry to read this @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. But it was good that you and your brother got to spend quite a lot of time with your mum. Sending a virtual {hug} to you.

I sincerely hope that is not the way this is going, seems coldly calculating on the part of Jolene and Fallon if so.

Trivium4all · 02/09/2026 21:09

I'm really sorry for your loss, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g .

Yardbird · 02/09/2026 21:28

All the best @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g x

echt · 02/09/2026 22:06

I'm sorry for your loss, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g, but glad that it was peaceful. It's such privilege to be with loved ones at the end. Many Flowers

BeatriceBatchelor · 02/09/2026 22:57

Harrison, me darlin', why don't you move out of the house that you're paying for and move into a room above my pub. It won't be at all awkward and my daughter can go part time and carry on living where she wants.

OK, Jolene, I'll pack me bags.

Unbelievable.

It's so that Lily's walk of shame can involve bumping into Uncle Kenton on the landing.
