Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Did I miss the episode where Ambridge Hall was sold. Surely they wouldn't have passed the Estate Agents scrutiny to get a viewing?

I don't think it has been. They're considering it and Lynda was looking at EAs to sell it but then Robert had an idea ...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/09/2026 19:31

Anna's not looked at the bank statements yet, then!

I would quite enjoy Tom & Natasha being declared bankrupt, or having to enter a DMP/IVA etc without anyone rescuing them. Maybe they'll get scammed by a dodgy debt company. With considerably more panic than 'oh we contacted StepChange and it was easy'. It could creep into business debt too. Not just a 1 week public service announcement story line.

@Madcats It would be nice to have a few of the overseas' contingent over for the wedding.
Who else is overseas beyond Meriel? Not counting Johnny and Josh, and that random American scam week woman. I've been listening for about 15 years, so did anyone properly emigrate before then?

Sipho and Noluthandu are the same order of cousins as Johnny. I think.

Eastie77Returns · 22/09/2026 19:44

Has Sipho ever visited Ambridge? I can only remember episodes featuring Noluthandu and Kate never mentions him. Are they estranged?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/09/2026 19:48

If Xander comes, Martha will have to come too. I couldn't understand why she wasn't mentioned tonight, unless I missed it.

I thought @Madcats meant the absentees from the Brookfield clan, rather than the wider Archer universe. So the descendants of Phil & Jill.

(Not that Noluthando and Sipho wouldn’t be incredibly welcome to my ears!)

Sipho visited Ambridge in March 2010 when he was coming up to three years old, and Kate (predictably) spent her time there with him either saying "no" to him or dumping him on other female Archers to look after for her. He was a contributing factor in Helen's broodiness which led to her buying some sperm in order to have Henry the following year.

I wonder if John's toy tractor is worth anything??

Edited

Haha, she'll confuse it with the kids toys, and sell it on Vinted for a fiver max.

I rather had my hopes on a Viking funeral for Carol. Rex's barge sent down the Am or wherever it is, flaming into the sunset.

I thought that too - did not hear Martha being mentioned.

Looks as if there will be quite a few children at that wedding.

EBearhug · 22/09/2026 23:57

I don't know why Ambridge Hall doesn't go for longer term lodgers. They had Adil for ages, they had Fallon. I assume the rooms all have ensuutes these days. They'd just have to make some cupboard and fridge space in the kitchen.

FiveShelties · 23/09/2026 02:29

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g thank you for the new thread. I hope all goes well, travel safely.💐

muddyford · 23/09/2026 06:36

I don't think an Anglican priest can conduct a pagan funeral. I think it has to be at least Christian. He's breaking his ordination vows.

Prestissimo · 23/09/2026 07:03

I don’t think he’s conducting anything @muddyford - isn’t he just doing a eulogy?

At the moment, anyway. It’ll all go wrong when the money shenanigans is uncovered.

TottersBlankly · 23/09/2026 07:04

He wasn’t offering to conduct the funeral - and actually offered to help Anna find a suitable person to do that. He has only agreed to deliver a eulogy.

TottersBlankly · 23/09/2026 07:05

And yes! 😄

AgentKim · 23/09/2026 07:11

Don't think any thing will happen about the bank and Carol's money with Alan.
My online banking always sends me a notification when theres money in and money out. So I would think it would have been notced by now. If not by Anna than at least by Alan. But this is the Archers and any thing can happen.

He's not conducting it. He's going to say a few words, anyone can do that.

muddyford · 23/09/2026 07:45

@CaptainMyCaptain and others: thanks for clarifying that. I was washing up and must've missed that bit.

JanFebAndOnwards · 23/09/2026 09:32

I wonder if he might have second thoughts about speaking as part of a pagan ceremony, or perhaps after a colleague or superior querying it, pull out at the last minute, then Anna will look at the bank account and will go mad.

He's conducting nothing. He will be speaking as a friend with no ecclesiastical content.

The room Adil was in long-term didn't have an en-suite bathroom in 2022; he was in trouble with Linda for singing "too loudly" in the shower, and then discovered when he went back to his room that he hadn't shut the door properly and Ruby had got in and was lying on his bed, which upset him. The shower must have been in a separate room then, and we haven't heard of any building work at Ambridge Hall since as far as I know. (But I gave up listening this summer, so if it has been done since late June maybe they have installed bathrooms in the bedrooms they use for the B&B.)

TottersBlankly · 23/09/2026 19:18

Heaven’s sake! Josie Gordon-Grundy will be ready to take her GCSEs by the time she arrives.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · 23/09/2026 19:23

That’s certainly how I felt after progeny decided that 12 days past due was optimum timing. I’d given up on any sort of appearance and thought I had food poisoning when labour started.
