Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g so sorry to hear about your mother but it sounded as though you were able to spend time with her and that it was peaceful. This is a lovely thread to be on after a bereavement of that order. We are all in the same boat, or have been, and truly understand.

AgentKim · 03/09/2026 06:26

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g 💐

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g sorry you have lost your Mum, a difficult time for you💐

LillianGish · 03/09/2026 08:29

So sorry to hear about your mum @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. That sounds like a good death - if that's not an oxymoron - and hopefully there is some comfort in that. A peaceful end, excellent care and surrounded by loved ones - it's what any of us would wish for Flowers

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/09/2026 09:00

Thanks all.

Harrison, me darlin', why don't you move out of the house that you're paying for and move into a room above my pub. It won't be at all awkward and my daughter can go part time and carry on living where she wants.

OK, Jolene, I'll pack me bags.

Unbelievable.

My thoughts precisely. Why should he be happy to move out into a bedroom in a pub, where he can't entertain his friends and there won't be any space for his stuff? Why aren't they just selling the house and splitting the proceeds?

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 03/09/2026 23:29

She could have Hannah as a lodger

AgentKim · 04/09/2026 06:49

I really dont like Pat or Henry.
Why has Alan apologised and why did Pat say its that ok Henry.
Should she be saying we'll you must say sorry Henry and ask if there is anything Alan would like you to do. And get a quote for the window.
Then Alan should go and see Kahils family and ask why they havnt been to see him and give them a quote for the window. The kids seem to have got off scott free. What will they learn from this.
Glad that Esme has found out about George working in the car shop.
Mind you Ambers mum could have backed George up instead of humming and arrring.

I think Harrison is still hoping there might be a reconciliation in time - it’s the only possible reason I can think of for moving in with your MIL after a break up. It’s a slim hope shared by Jolene. Of course the kiss with Lily means that is no longer possible even if Fallon were to have even the slightest waver.

SockPlant · 04/09/2026 07:25

I think it was PERFECTLY reasonable for Alan to bring up Henry's previous scallywagging. Alan's apology was elegant.

Pat's way of talking really annoys me.

I was wondering if Amber's mum had set George up to be rumbled at the car showroom, that would really have suited her character.

I've always found Pat to be hugely irritating

Good shout on Amber's mum!

MarmaladeorJam · 04/09/2026 14:13

Given who, and what Henry's father was, to me it would be more rational for Pat to be fine tuned to his behavior, and to work on any potential he has for going in the wrong direction.

As such, I would have expected her to react differently with regard to Henry breaking the window.

When we broke a window with a ball at a comparable age, mum paid for the repair, but we had to pay mum!

I feel the sw need to bring his background in more.

Gonners · 04/09/2026 14:36

@MarmaladeorJam Given who, and what Henry's father was ....

If you know that, do tell! If you're thinking of Rob, he was Jack's father.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 04/09/2026 14:47

WTF?
Esme sounded unhinged!

muddyford · 04/09/2026 15:53

I think she was, justifiably, irate. She's paying George sick pay, which is fair enough, but he didn't even have the courtesy to tell her that he had an opportunity to earn a bit more elsewhere while he couldn't work on the farm. Odious little scrote.

BeatriceBatchelor · 04/09/2026 16:23

It's unkind to encourage George to follow his dreams and be a farmer. He hasn't been handed land like Pip. He doesn't want to end up living in a trailer like his mum and stepdad. Or relying on the kindness of a wealthy mug like his paternal grandparents do. If he's got a flair for sales, he should go for it. And once the baby is older, encourage Amber to do something more lucrative than shop work.

ForAmberPoster · 04/09/2026 16:28

Pat has pipped Pip as the most self centred Archers woman. It would be very satisfying is she is taken out by a cricket ball hit through a window by Henry.

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/09/2026 16:33

I too think Esme had every right to be outraged.

George should take the car job. Would suit him down to the ground and he can still hang around the animals on the farm.

Alan needs to get a bloody backbone.

LaMarschallin · 04/09/2026 16:37

It's odd, the way Amber's mother has been portrayed up to now suggests she would infinitely rather Amber to be married to a business man who may well get a father-in-law's help up the ladder.
Now she's all "Follow your dream, George, anything is possible if you dream..." and other reality pop show competition bilge.
The only thing I can think is she's worried she might lose Amber if she discourages him.
Or perhaps she reckons if she waits, once Amber has the baby she'll realise all the material comfort she was brought up in would be rather nice again.

Madcats · 04/09/2026 16:38

I still don't understand why Henry and Khalil haven't had a massive bollocking and been busy doing odd jobs after school this week. Alan had no need to apologise, though I do still wonder if they are prepping us for his retirement.

Being a fan of Clarksons Farm, I fail to see why George couldn't hold down two jobs at once (not optimal, but he is VERY young and seems cash-motivated). It all seems to have worked out very well for Harriet Cowan (part time nurse, part time social media farmer). Earn some decent money so that he can buy some kit for contracting.

When is the baby due?
