Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Thanks for clarifying Every1ElseInKnowsley

BB your comment came across, to me, as dismissive and touched a nerve as both my kids have suffered hugely from previously undiagnosed ADHD over the years while not understanding why.
I'll call people out, let's move on.

As an adhd sufferer im going to take this on the chin and keep the discussion to the archers - if it does come out about keira, its a bit of a hamfisted stereotypical portrayal. It just wouldnt surprise me.

Sidebeforeself · Yesterday 10:59

BeatriceBatchelor · Yesterday 08:16

Keira might have adhd

Well every other person on MN either has it or their kid does. God it's tiresome enough for a TA SL.

What an odious scrote Ian is, threatening "Bottlegate." And I think it's cruel he and Adam stopping Brian from seeing Xander.

Let's dead Ian. Adam is too good a character to be dedded.

Oh cant we dead them both? A horrific incident involving the runaway pizza van perhaps?

Every1ElseInKnowsley · Yesterday 11:06

Adam and Xander cannot be dedded. They are Archers.

...Keira, its a bit of a ham-fisted stereotypical portrayal. It just wouldnt surprise me. Quite. Can't the lass just be a normal teenage girl whose ghastly half-brother is also her cousin?

Eastie77Returns · Yesterday 12:03

Brian and Adam’s feud is now boring me. I find the Bridge Farm family dynamic much more interesting.

I think Jack’s reported behavioural problems which were bad enough for school to call Helen in the middle of the school day (highly unusual) and the fact he then convinced her that he was just defending himself and others from a bully are early signs that is a manipulative mini Rob. I’m sure his paternal grandparents will make a reappearance at some point as well and fill him on the fact his mother almost murdered his wonderful father and also prevented him from seeing Jack as he was dying from (cancer?). If Helen wasn’t so ghastly I would feel sorry for her and what she will have to deal with in the years to come.

I am also interested in why Henry seems to dislike Tom so intensely. It seems to have steadily built up over the last couple of years. Obviously Tom is completely awful but it’s odd that his nephew has such an aversion to him and from a very young age.

Darker · Yesterday 12:15

Brian is a shit.
I like Adam and Ian.

I think they are entirely right to seek to protect Xander from Brian’s unpredictable cruelty. Otherwise he might be offering and withdrawing all sorts of things to the poor child for the next twenty years. As well as cutting Xander off the minute he expresses any view that Brian doesn’t agree with. It’s an awful prospect.

Has there been any acknowledgement from Brian that dismissing Adam (and Kate) as 'not even his children' was an appalling thing to say? Or that he said it in the heat of the moment but didn't mean it?

Because it seems to me that claiming some sort of grandfatherly relationship with Xander when, by Brian's lights, Xander isn't in fact his grandchild, is completely bonkers.

Unless I've missed some sort of stepping back from the statement about Adam and Kate. It's not that hard for Brian to understand, surely, that if Adam isn't his child, Xander isn't his grandchild?

I can't bear either of them but I am firmly #teamAdam here.

TottersBlankly · Yesterday 12:54

You obviously meant Adam and Debbie - and no, Brian hasn’t made the slightest move to retract what he said. It’s extraordinary that he can’t see how rejecting his familial relationship with Adam means he now has none with Xander.

Yes I did! Blame the heat, I am!

Agree. And also with @JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby and @TottersBlankly.

I'm not getting the excessive hate towards Adam on here. As for Brian, I don't hate him - I just despise him.

You said I had "no idea." Wrong. You said "lucky you." You know nothing about me.

Now that's settled, we can move in.

Edited because quoted part wasn't clear.

Brad isn’t neurotypical and he is Keira’s first cousin once removed. Her grandmother Susan is a Horrobin and Brad’s mother is a Horrobin.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · Yesterday 18:01

Probably best to leave it but...
We don't know that Brad isn't NT. He's just a bit geeky compared to other Ambridge folk. Same with Jakob.

TeenToTwenties · Yesterday 19:49

Brad is a geeky slightly awkward lad. Nothing non NT about him.
Kiera seems just like a typical y9 (or whatever), not one of the 'popular' girls but usual teen girl falling outs etc.
I like hearing more from the younger generation.

Gonners · Yesterday 20:13

With hindsight, it now seems as though Jakob wasn't in the least bit odd. He is just a perfectly sane half-Swedish man who (quite reasonably) found everything about Ambridge bizarre. He has done well not to go native! He's one of my favourite characters, and his influence on Kate (and vice-versa) has been fun.

Will Adam never learn? Ruairi is even less his brother than Brian is his father. At least Brian was married to Adam’s mother. And if the gratitude he ought to feel towards her doesn’t translate into love for her son, there’s absolutely no guarantee that Ruairi’s love for her will translate into loyalty to Adam.

Adam is just as much Ruari’s half brother as he is Kate or Alice.

Actually I’m editing to say no BOOP you’re wrong. Ruari and Adam don’t share a parent. Colour me wrong!!
