Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

@Every1ElseInKnowsley Honestly i don't know. But we did the opposite with my adopted DDs and that didn't go so well either.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 25/06/2026 13:18

I think adoption is probably different and there will be factors like at what age were they adopted and the background (abuse, FAS etc). I don't really know enough to comment.
When I see/hear comments like 'could you adopt?' I am enraged. (It's usually in the context of gender disappointment. Don't wish to derail but FFS.) Angry Angry Angry

IMO you deserve a medal for having the love, patience and strength to raise your children, and you no doubt did your very best for them and should not regret what you did or didn't do because you did what you believed was best.

Maybe Helen's the exception...

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 25/06/2026 15:21

I like Henry (and so far, Keira) and I suspect the work experience might just serve to reinforce he has some of Tony in him and is likely to make a more successful farmer than Tom.

As we know Tom won’t like that at all. I live in hope there is a nice, long term subtle SL in the making re Tom and Henry. We can throw in the land Knob left to Jack for good measure.

BeatriceBatchelor · 25/06/2026 15:25

Helen is so wonderfully awful.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 25/06/2026 15:31

Helen is so wonderfully awful. She's a brilliant character and so well acted. She's incredible. Grin

WitcheryDivine · 25/06/2026 15:57

Missed the new thread, thought you’d all gone quiet.

Does anyone know when Kirsty’s due?

Tryagain26 · 25/06/2026 15:59

Ambridge. The only place in the UK where the children speak just like their parents rather than the kids they go to school with.

What makes you think the kids at school don't sound like them too? Some will talk like Keira and some like Henry.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 25/06/2026 16:14

@WitcheryDivine, She went for her 12-week scan on the 9th of June. I think that means the baby is due about Feb 11 2027.

A superb example of a lack of any sense of self-awareness. I had to rewind Tony telling her off three times as it was so satisfying.

JanFebAndOnwards · 25/06/2026 18:31

So far the SWs / editors have not written either Henry or Jack very realistically.
They are bound to bear the effects of what each of them went through and what Henry witnessed.

JanFebAndOnwards · 25/06/2026 18:35

(Oo new comedy sketch show currently on r4 has quite a Finnemore feel to it, in both content and delivery! ”POV”)

JanFebAndOnwards · 25/06/2026 19:41

Keira’s had to wait nearly six months for that conversation….
(Granted she had to develop a voice first, lol)

TottersBlankly · 25/06/2026 19:47

I want to say I feel sorry for the sound effects person who produced the ‘wild’ weather we heard in Ambridge tonight. But what do I know? Maybe there is somewhere in the Midlands being lashed by storms right now? 🤷‍♀️

ExOptimist · 25/06/2026 19:56

Tryagain26 · 25/06/2026 15:59

Exactly. Class makes a huge difference in how people speak and how strong their accent is.

I think the mentioning of Jack's behaviour is a start of a storyline surrounding inherited traits coming out in him and the effect that will have on the family. I really hope the SW let this take the years and decades it should.

It was good to hear Keira tonight articulating her feelings. But the whole family should acknowledge to her that they have focussed on George and more or less ignored her. Did I miss the heart to heart she apparently had with Emma about the running away, or did that happen behind the scenes?

I also wish she didn't have such a whining tone to her voice, she sounds about 11 not 15 and reminds me of Chelsea's ghastly moaning abrupt tones.

Edited

Thanks for the date. I don’t think the due date can be right though, that would mean she was due 8 months after the 12 week scan. I think it must be some time in possibly late December based on that scan date. Ooh - Christmas baby? Useless father stuck abroad?

It was an online answer. I typed 'if my 12-week scan was on 9 June what is the due date?' or similar and it was the answer it gave.
It looked a bit wrong but I cba to check.
It's way out. 12 weeks before would be 17 March.

It's gonna be a Christmas baby! (is that a spoiler?)

At one point didn’t they get Kiera riding lessons or something? This may have been a dream . Something to do with Neil and Susan.

Yes, they did.

Gonners · 25/06/2026 21:09

I vaguely remember that, but were they silent lessons, in the sense that either they were mentioned but never took place on air? Or perhaps we only heard Lil or whoever barking instructions.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/06/2026 21:58

Keira sounds very like Mia. I wonder how she's getting on. Are she and Brad both about to be final year students?

'Time of the month"???

It's as if the SWs suddenly woke up to having to account for Keira's aversion to George and the running away so have him being gratuitously disgusting, not in keeping at all with the way he's spoken to her before.

Appalling. And I mean the SWs.

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/06/2026 02:01

She's a promising young actress. I found the scene between Kiera and Ed quite touching.

Agree with pp who said TA is sounding like Grange Hill with all the youngsters. Most are quite tedious. I'd rather hear more hostilities at Bridge Farm.

Amber wouldn't put up with that remark, neither would Emma, nor Will probably, and to be fair neither did Ed and Clarrie. Eddie would have laughed, though, and he has been a huge influence on George. Ditto Joe.

Helen should have let Tom know about the milking parlour salesman but otherwise I think she has a point.
I didn't like Tom criticising her confidence, it didn't seem like entitled behaviour to me - on this occasion.

Darker · 26/06/2026 09:17

Tom and Helen are as bad as each other.
