Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

@Darker IIRC Debbie put some initial funding into Spiritual Home. There was a wonderful episode a long time ago where Debbie was visiting and she, Kate and Alice went out riding together and discussed their lives and prospects. Debbie specifically said ‘that ship has sailed’ in relation to having children. I don’t recall what Alice said, but Kate was wanting to set up something worthwhile for her own life and Debbie was encouraging and said she’d be willing to help with money towards whatever. Shortly afterwards Kate started Spiritual Home.

I don’t need Mustardland to tell me Shula owns her own house. 😄 It’s a great source of annoyance that Justin and Lilian were able to invest in The Stables business - but I don’t think The Stables house was involved in that deal.

I was a bit disappointed that neither Adam nor Debbie moved for a dissolution of the Home Farm partnership - which was what I’ve been anticipating. That would probably have taken Home Farm close to bankruptcy - at which point I’d have hoped Brian would see sense and Adam would get what he’s always wanted.

They could have given Debbie stronger and better dialogue regarding that. Just bleating ‘Ive had enough. I’m out. was a bit useless. She’s an experienced businesswoman (even though employed not self employed) and would surely have arrived with a solid plan to back up her claim to half the farm. Poorly written, to my mind, and hardly rewarding for TG to act.

Edited

With any luck 'I've had enough, I'm out' had an unspoken 'and I'll be asking my brother to join me in requesting a dissolution of the partnership.'

How would that work out? How many partners are there, do they all have an equal say?

I think it was set up so that Brian and JennyDarling could outvote all the others. And I can't see Jennifer leaving any of her shares to her children ...

It would be neither out of character nor beyond the bounds of biology for Brian to take up with a 35 year old and sire a few more sons.

Ooo i hope so! That last line 'sometimes you have to be BRUTAL, don't you, adam?' Deserves an oscar!

Trixie4577864 · Yesterday 10:35

Never mind Bert or Carol having a fall and no one being there, I think Brian will have a heart attack or something and no one will come to his aid.

He dangles the farm then snatches it away - the kids should be fed up of it.

I’ve listened to the Archers for years and I quite like the continuity of TG coming back.

I don’t think Brian knows that Adam know about NYE. That must his trump card left to play.

BeatriceBatchelor · Yesterday 10:38

Alice was the only one who seemed to care about Brian. Debbie going on about him having dementia shows how hateful she is.

I'm overinfested in this!

beigetriangle · Yesterday 10:42

I think adam should cosy up to georgd and snatch up the farming contract (damara?) from home farm.

that'l show brian

Darker · Yesterday 10:50

Brian is behaving oddly. He could easily be losing capacity. Cantankerous. Inconsistent. Unrealistic.

Examples… covering up for Ruarie and watching Ruarie fall apart. Telling Adam he will have the land then retracting. Going for the caravan storage idea without consulting anyone else. Crediting Ruarie for the good performance when literally everyone knows he was out of his depth.

Having some experience of dementia, I would say Brian just sounds thoroughly pissed off to me. Team Brian here!

Also, he owns the land and can do as he pleases with it. I'd laugh if he sold it. If whatever he does enrages entitled, dishonest, self-centred Adam, so much the better.

Gosh, I can see her leaving all of them to her children. She never trusted Brian not to do the dirty wrt to them.

DeanElderberry · Yesterday 12:24

Was Ruairi around when it was set up? Has he any shares?

Alice and Brian vs Adam'n'Debbie with Kate as the wild card would be interesting.

Darker · Yesterday 12:31

There was a time when Ruth was representing Ruarie in the partnership, so yes.
It Might have been a very different meeting with Ruarie in attendance

JanFebAndOnwards · Yesterday 13:06

Rustic would have told them all what he did on NYE.
Not sure the farm would have had much of a look-in after that.

RuairiDonovan · Yesterday 13:12

@Gonners ,What has Lily got to do with any of this?
Female of childbearing age this side of the by-pass who Brian could impregnate. I also forgot young Carol Toboggan.Smile

@BeatriceBatchelor ,TG has been Debbie for decades and was a major character before her professional commitments made her more or less unavailable. She was Brine's favourite until Alice was born.
She seems to have had a personality transplant.

@DeanElderberry , Jennydarling would have left it to the 5 children.

I can see why Brian said they weren't his children. They're not.

I'm one of the weirdos who dislikes Debbie's voice Have you considered counselling?

Thanks for the new thread @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . Hope you are having a good weekend.

DeanElderberry · Yesterday 13:55

[Debbie] seems to have had a personality transplant.

To be fair, she couldn't spend her entire adult life under a duvet shunning soup.

When my Mumsnet App showed me that I had 60-odd new updates to this thread following Friday's episode I guessed that it must be a good'un. Well done to:
Writer: Katie Hims
Directors: Kim Greengrass and Peter Leslie Wild

There are some hefty tax implications for taking the land out of a partnership (stamp duty land tax and capital gains to name but a few), so I am fairly confident that it won't happen.

Kate is going to go ballistic when she finds out.

Caravan storage near(ish) to Birmingham seems like a good gig to be in; I doubt that Home Farm has done anything with the hardstanding where the fruitpickers used to live.

RuairiDonovan · Yesterday 15:01

Well done to:... One good episode out of 6 when the other 5 were not good at all.

Kate going ballistic sounds promising.

The Human has just opened my treat box and my treats weren't in it. It was some nasty bits of plastic foil with words like Mars, Galaxy and Mikly Way on them. What has she done with my treats. Bad bad human. She has given me something new today something yellow and all greasy a bit like cheese but not cheesy. Strange but delicious. If i sit here with my resting catty face and making angry noises do you think she'll pen the right tub? MinnieCaldwell.

Ha! it worked. I think annoying her when TA is on might be the trick. [cat ]
