Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

I really hope the SW let Brad do a Masters and PhD and not succumb to pressure from Den, who can only be trying to use Brad as an eventual source of £££.

Who on earth would try to persuade their son, someone like Brad, to become a croupier?
Do we know what Den himself does for a living?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/05/2026 14:05

Nothing at all until very recently. I think he's a delivery driver now because Sophe insisted he must get a job. Good for her.

Someone who is planning a fiddle.

The big money combining maths and sport is in gambling. Actually the big maths money lies in gambling, aka financial trading.

You don't need to be brilliant at maths for financial trading - just basic arithmetic (O-level maths). I speak as an accidental former bond dealer - this happened when my boss was fired one day for being permanently drunk (think whisky with your morning coffee and then not stopping). It went surprisingly well, but was really very boring indeed. I left before I took to absinthe. 😆

Agapornis · 21/05/2026 16:45

I think Den was deliberately unemployed/cash in hand for years because he didn't pay Tracy any child maintenance.

Yes I should have left out the word Maths from my last sentence.
The big money lies in gambling with other people's money.

I'm convinced Den is planning some scam.

Nic had two young children, Will had George. Will had a steady job and a house provided with his job.

I want to know more about the SUV parked on the green.

Don't care about Den or the Cringy Caring/MH PSAs.

Gonners · 21/05/2026 17:18

The sole purpose of Den appears to be to make Brad miserable. I know they had a nice time at the ... er ... whatever sport it was, but Den and Sophe need to return whence they came. Not least because they are dull.

RuairiDonovan · 21/05/2026 17:25

It was New Road, the Worcestershire cricket club.

TottersBlankly · 21/05/2026 17:31

Sophe seemed full of potential! She’s just shackled herself to a leach. Let’s see how long Den’s new job lasts now he has a wife with (presumably) an income.

muddyford · 21/05/2026 17:36

I think the SUV is Den's.

RuairiDonovan · 21/05/2026 17:37

Sophe sounds like a typical MN-er. Her DP is 'a great dad' and 'he ain't bad in the sack neither'. Smile

@muddyford , that was my thoughts too but why would it be there?

Not sure why I care other than it bothered the Blessed Cheesemaker.

TottersBlankly · 21/05/2026 17:59

D’you mean the SUV is Sophe’s?

Yes, I would assume it is ... unless of course it's stolen and therefore now Den's.

Well, Den seems to be spending a lot of time around the green so it was just a suggestion.

LowLightsHighLights · 21/05/2026 19:15

Flipping heck. When did The Archers, of all programmes, turn so massively ageist?!

TottersBlankly · 21/05/2026 19:18

Well, that’s my blood pressure shot for the rest of the evening. I was feeling Anna’s frustration and Tracy’s hopeless disbelief in my actual chest.

RuairiDonovan · 21/05/2026 19:27

It's not ageist. It's the characters that are ageist. The nonagenarians are strong and sprightly bit their offspring seem to think they are frail.
Carol has amazing eyesight doesn't she.

I wish Tracy was my mum.

MorningCoffeePlease · 21/05/2026 19:33

Surely Carol is just trying to wind Anna up. Watching bats might be interesting for the first 10 to 15 minutes but I can't help thinking that day after day, it would get boring rather quickly.

muddyford · 21/05/2026 19:42

And does Alan really believe that priestly confidentiality is transactional rather than absolute? He's a vicar not a social worker. That's vicar spelt P-I-L-L-O-C-K.

EBearhug · 21/05/2026 19:43

Nah, if she's got a nursery roost up there, it'd be fab!

Gonners · 21/05/2026 20:28

Team Carol here. MrG is 84 years old and has Alzheimer's, so he can't remember much beyond the last thing you said to him but is otherwise physically fit, active and a healthy weight. So he's sort of Carol in reverse. He has a chocolate biscuit addiction, which is probably not ideal but I am not going to police it. There comes a point when you just have to let people do as they please, and ideally that point starts when they are in their late teens and never stops. Unless of course they are axe-murderers, in which case maybe not?

Trivium4all · 21/05/2026 20:31

I did have a laugh at how much everyone involved in that conversation wanted a G&T.

Gonners · 21/05/2026 20:45

If Carol was pouring, I rather hope that the other two get breathalysed on the way home.

Hercisback · 21/05/2026 21:29

Can Bert please move to Clives and we never hear from either of them again? Preferably Pip goes with him.
