Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

Can Bert please move to Clives and we never hear from either of them again? Preferably Pip goes with him.

And Akram.

Ha! And Helen too, perhaps? That would make a terrific spin-off series.

RuairiDonovan · 21/05/2026 22:10

Helen must stay. Too good a character and actor.

beigetriangle · 22/05/2026 06:25

bert to have a fall at clive's
tracy to, again, pick up the pieces

carol - also a fall. the whole village helping (apart from tracy who hears all about it at work at the bull)

compare & contrast

Day 6 in Clives gaff: Bert still doesn't have an actual bed but he's happy because he's had 5 days of egg and chips.

DeanElderberry · 22/05/2026 08:06

I wonder what sort of pension pot Adam has? Was he working for an agency in his African years?

LillianGish · 22/05/2026 08:19

Is the council house tenancy on The Green tied to Bert @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime? If so that could make things difficult for Tracy and Jazzer if Bert moves out.

Gonners · 22/05/2026 08:39

I think Tracy got herself added to the tenancy a while back.

TottersBlankly · 22/05/2026 09:26

But I’m perfectly sure Clive must imagine there’s some financial gain to be had from becoming his father’s carer.

RuairiDonovan · 22/05/2026 12:32

If the SW want to focus on caring, maybe they should start by caring about us.

Why should we care about Anna and her younger-sounding mother?
Why should we care about Father Bertie Boswell.?

RuairiDonovan · 22/05/2026 14:45

The radio is on and i thought 'That's the Chris Carter actor' and it is. (Marcus in Limelight.)

LillianGish · 22/05/2026 15:44

I just recognised him as a useless police officer in Believe Me on ITV.

snowibunni · 22/05/2026 15:59

Tracey just needs to say, off you pop to her dad. He's presumably competent, so allowed to make poor choices. Id let Clive have a turn.. It all goes pear shaped and Bert ends up in a care home ruing the day he moved out. The siblings should be taking turns ref care anyway. At the moment Susan and Clive have it easy.

Same with Carol. Her choices may not be Annas choices but she is allowed to decide what she wants to do.

We often have a bat nursing colony and the are noisy buggers.

Clive will be looking out for number one.

RuairiDonovan · 22/05/2026 16:04

No he won't. He's a changed man and he does yoga.Wink

Abra1t · 22/05/2026 18:02

Thing is, both Tracy and Anna will then have to pick up the pieces, probably at a time worst for them in terms of trying to work/balance other family responsibilities.

Bert will be in an even worse state than he is now and Tracy will have even more work when he inevitably returns. Carol will have a fall, lie there for a whole night, get pneumonia or a kidney infection or break a hip, be even more frail and reliant on Anna. I have seen these situations play out in close family.

RuairiDonovan · 22/05/2026 18:09

They'll milk it for all its worth first. Lots of opportunities for PSAs.
Then Carol will live silently until they need Glebe Cottage for SL purposes.

TottersBlankly · 22/05/2026 19:03

Lordy - the continuity announcer is scaring me about tonight …

TottersBlankly · 22/05/2026 19:09

Told ya! How her ears pricked up before!

LowLightsHighLights · 22/05/2026 19:15

Flippin' heck

snowibunni · 22/05/2026 19:18

Oh my absolute gosh. Totally predictable outcome from Brian though. His bat and his ball. Nice to hear Debbie. Great to hear the home truths about family ties. Who was the script writer. The deserve a medal.

TottersBlankly · 22/05/2026 19:19

Farkin’ ‘ell …

Poor Adam - I knew the moment he told her Brian had promised him the land she started worrying about her own inheritance.

Amazed Adam kept his mouth shut about the missing elephant.

MarthaBeach · 22/05/2026 19:20

Well Adam, lying conniving bastard, that didn't go to plan did it?

EBearhug · 22/05/2026 19:20

I'm glad I'm not an Aldridge.

TeenToTwenties · 22/05/2026 19:32

Wow!
