Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

Sorry to hear that @ExitPursuedByABare . Hope you get well soon.[hug]
You'll Never Walk Alone always gets me - a powerful anthem.
He seemed emotional but in a good way. He's such a talented actor.

Mmm... Erik. [sigh]

muddyford · 10/05/2026 19:44

Erik and Jakob don't sound at all like brothers. Erik is a nasty piece of work, in my opinion.
And I wondered who Den was when he arrived. Another fluid accent. He started off sounding rather like Harrison then collapsed into generic West Midlands.

I agree - Erik just sounds so brash. Totally different from Jakob who's one of the few characters I actually like!

JoelenesParrot · 10/05/2026 20:17

I don’t trust Erik and certainly wouldn’t be hotel-hopping across Europe with him. Kirsty has convinced herself that this is what she wants but she really doesn’t. She wants slippers and pipe. She is just very bad at finding it.

Gonners · 10/05/2026 20:46

Jakob sounds - how can I put this - very desirable! Erik, not so much. Well, not at all really. But that fits in well with Kirsty's previous choice of men.

BeatriceBatchelor · 11/05/2026 05:41

Jakob asked Erik if he needed money which was a bit concerning.

Maybe she just wants her own house, a baby and a friend with benefits. Sounds OK to me.

DeanElderberry · 11/05/2026 07:43

I've gone right off Erik. I hope he survives long enough to write a will leaving everything to Kirsty and then falls off the bypass.

RuairiDonovan · 11/05/2026 10:31

Jakob asked Erik if he needed money which was a bit concerning.
I took it to mean Jakob thought Erik had turned up because he wanted something.

It wasn't said for no reason and Erik will no doubt turn out to be unreliable. There would be no drama otherwise.

Speaking of which, TomnTash have been fairly drama-free so I think we have that to look forward to.

TottersBlankly · 11/05/2026 10:43

I still think the freshest drama for Kirsty in Ambridge would be no drama at all. Grown up conversations leading to workable co-parenting.

Anything else would be truly amateur writing from people with no knowledge of her back story.

RuairiDonovan · 11/05/2026 12:17

I think the freshest drama for Kirsty would be a drama-free child and happy co-parenting, but for Helen to have a ONS with somebody truly dreadful (Bert?) and the resulting child to be a complete nightmare. (yes, I know but it's a soap...)

JudyCoolibar · 11/05/2026 15:47

I fear that the mention of financial unreliability signals that Erik is not going to be Father of the Year, but I suspect Kirsty knows that.

Unfortunately the actor's voice is so distinctive that I still associate him with the character he played in The Bill, who was deeply unpleasant. I do hope they don't go down that path with him in TA.

'There's nothing wrong with Tradwife' 🙄

Why did George suggest Brad as a name for the baby. Was it to imply something?

StillWeRise · 11/05/2026 21:11

its absolutely definite Brad is not the father isn't it?

Yes. They kissed. That is all.

'There's nothing wrong with Tradwife' 🙄

And he was mansplaining too.

SaffyRosie · 12/05/2026 15:28

Can anybody give me a brief summary of what's happened in the last 4-6 months please?

I knew that the Scote (George) and his superficial girlfriend had just discovered that she was up the duff.

Curious as to the hold that George has over Brian.

Thank you very much.

RuairiDonovan · 12/05/2026 17:20

George came out of prison but is on remand.
George called Emma a slut or somesuch. Amber slapped him in front of Ed and Emma. I think Will was there too.
Amber decided she was in love with Brad and stayed in Chelsea's room that night having kissed Brad.

Amber and George decide to try for a baby and conceive the first time.

Briann got some distinctive aftershave from Miranda for Christmas.

The Bull won an award and gave everyone in Ambridge a bottle of Chardonnay to celebrate on NYE.
A drunk George is mean to Brian in The Bull on NYE. George is told to sling his hook.

Someone hits George over the head with a bottle of Chardonnay as he walks home.

RuairiDonovan · 12/05/2026 17:23

A neighbour of Brookfield, Mr Mulligan dies unexpectedly. His daughter Esme despite not knowing anyone in Ambridge, keeps the farm going with a lot of help from the Dopeys and Pakistani plumber from a farming family Akram.
Esme eventually gets the tenancy and now employs George.
George has been fitted with an alcohol-detecting tag.

RuairiDonovan · 12/05/2026 17:27

George recognises Brian's aftershave and connects Brian with the attack.
Brian in an effort to protect the attacker, Ruairi, admits that he attacked George.
George recorded it.
Brian has given George some hush money.

RuairiDonovan · 12/05/2026 17:45

Stella has proposed to the ghastly Pip with a ring eaten by the dog.
Pip said yes. The celebration coincided with Ben's graduation.
David and Ruth have decided who gets what when they die. Pip gets the farm, Josh gets Glebe Cottage (silently having bought it from Shula and Elizabeth who haven't inherited it yet) and Hollitree. Ben gets something but it was so trivial I can't remember.

Alice is now seeing Rex. Chris is seeing Lottie. Lottie works at the Dr's surgery.

Helen had a brief fling with a Scottish crofter called Finlay.

Helen made Tony sell the Anguses.

Helen has bought the house next door to the Horrobins. TomnTash are now struggling because Helen was paying them rent.
Tash is listing some of her and her family's clothes on Vinted to raise money.

Chelsea has bought a horsebox and is converting it into a hair salon.

Kirsty has just found she's expecting. It will be Jakob's nibling.

Brian and Miranda are no longer together. She has bought the Home Farm farmhouse intending it to be for her and Brian but Brian can't leave Ruairi.

Ruairi is in a bit of a state and has admitted to George that he was the attacker.
George didn't believe him.
Ruairi is talking to his dead mother.

Brian said he'd leave the farm to Adam, but has changed his mind.

Nobody has bothered to find out why Keira ran away on NYE.

The Khans have a budgie but he's escaped.

Bess the dog is now 8 years old.

Tracy's ex has turned up.

Justin is trying to sell his shares in BL.

Bert and Carol have been revoiced.

RuairiDonovan · 12/05/2026 17:48

Those might not be accurate or in the right order, and I might have missed important bits like Josh has gone to Patagonia.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/05/2026 17:49
