Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

Amber …

(Or maybe Zainab and J*y.)

Bruisername · 27/02/2026 12:45

If Helen goes it will be a month before Pat and Tony have a conversation wondering what she did all day to be so busy

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 12:45

LillianGish · 27/02/2026 12:40

Yes to Henry as a candidate for taking over the egg business - maybe he and Khalil could do it together. @OrphanBlankly. Susan and Tracey could run the dairy if Helen went to Scotland, but who would run the shop?

Kirsty

Helen will not be coming to Scotland, we will barricade the border with claymores. And keep Mark Bonnar in our side of it.

He lives in Hertfordshire. Not sure about cheese prospects there, though!

Abra1t · 27/02/2026 14:39

No doubt Helen has been sniffy about them at some cheese awards event!

In Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire cheeses hardly ever happen.

@FatRosie sadly wobbly bottom have given up cheese making and moved to Wales.

I can't see Susan wanting to work for a company called Wobbly Bottom.
Helen is half-Welsh

Nobody who's not Welsh believes me when I say I was taught the Welsh, multi-coloured goat song at school.

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 15:13

Maybe Natasha sings it to Novochok and Sarin.

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 27/02/2026 15:44

But do any of the male characters make us want to yell ‘run’ to their potential partner?

I generally try to ignore/forget about the existence of Tom Archer but if there was ever a category he fitted into...

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 15:49

Is Tom that bad? He was awful to Kursedy and has the emotional intelligence of an organic parsnip but he seems fairly harmless.

Bruisername · 27/02/2026 15:50

And he seems perfect for Natasha!!!

I don’t hate Tom for the same reason I don’t hate Josh - both in their siblings shadow/victim of golden child plus just having to grow up with Helen/pip

Ambridge · 27/02/2026 16:03

There are a lot of Bottoms in Hertfordshire (fnarr). It means a low-lying place (again….fnarr).

‘Boggy Bottom’ was voted the 3rd funniest place-name in the UK a few years ago.

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 16:05

What were the 1st and 2nd funniest?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/02/2026 16:09

Nempnett Thrubwell ought to be in there somewhere; it is simply surreal rather than funny though.

dotsock · 27/02/2026 16:19

To be honest I only hear a bit of the Archers when I'm half asleep on a sunday morning and often can hardly make head nor tail of it to be honest as new people seem to pop up and others disappear! Anyway I remember Alice being an alcoholic and being involved with a car crash but why does everyone here hate her so much?

Ambridge · 27/02/2026 16:20

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 16:05

What were the 1st and 2nd funniest?

No 1: Bell End, near Lickey End (Worcs)
No 2: Brown Willy, Cornwall

The general trend was towards schoolboy humour.

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 16:26

@Ambridge , thank you. They are funny.

@dotsock , I love Alice.

I dislike the portrayal of the character "Alice" because she's been shown as a rather nasty person in many ways more or less ever since she was given a voice to snipe and jeer with, in her teens.

I don't "hate" her; she's not important enough to hate, because she doesn't really exist.

Bruisername · 27/02/2026 17:16

I think Alice is an entitled madam who has been pussy footed around so much she thinks it’s the norm and I can’t bear her self pity!

but she is a good character!

muddyford · 27/02/2026 17:51

A friend bought me a coaster from Twatt on Shetland.

FatRosie · 27/02/2026 17:57

I think that was a passive-aggressive present.

I was just thinking I can think of a few people I would gladly gift that to!
