Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views.

Helen will not be coming to Scotland, we will barricade the border with claymores. And keep Mark Bonnar in our side of it.

He lives in Hertfordshire. Not sure about cheese prospects there, though!

Nobody who's not Welsh believes me when I say I was taught the Welsh, multi-coloured goat song at school.

Maybe Natasha sings it to Novochok and Sarin.

But do any of the male characters make us want to yell ‘run’ to their potential partner?

I generally try to ignore/forget about the existence of Tom Archer but if there was ever a category he fitted into...

Is Tom that bad? He was awful to Kursedy and has the emotional intelligence of an organic parsnip but he seems fairly harmless.

And he seems perfect for Natasha!!!

I don’t hate Tom for the same reason I don’t hate Josh - both in their siblings shadow/victim of golden child plus just having to grow up with Helen/pip

There are a lot of Bottoms in Hertfordshire (fnarr). It means a low-lying place (again….fnarr).

‘Boggy Bottom’ was voted the 3rd funniest place-name in the UK a few years ago.

What were the 1st and 2nd funniest?

Nempnett Thrubwell ought to be in there somewhere; it is simply surreal rather than funny though.

To be honest I only hear a bit of the Archers when I'm half asleep on a sunday morning and often can hardly make head nor tail of it to be honest as new people seem to pop up and others disappear! Anyway I remember Alice being an alcoholic and being involved with a car crash but why does everyone here hate her so much?

The general trend was towards schoolboy humour.

I dislike the portrayal of the character "Alice" because she's been shown as a rather nasty person in many ways more or less ever since she was given a voice to snipe and jeer with, in her teens.

I don't "hate" her; she's not important enough to hate, because she doesn't really exist.

I think Alice is an entitled madam who has been pussy footed around so much she thinks it’s the norm and I can’t bear her self pity!

but she is a good character!

A friend bought me a coaster from Twatt on Shetland.

I think that was a passive-aggressive present.

I was just thinking I can think of a few people I would gladly gift that to!
