Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to marry Pip, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

So now we know who bonked George on the head. Will the stunning revelation Hmm lead to anything interesting or credible happening? Answers on a postcard, please!

Will Alice and Rex become an item? Will Amber come to her senses? Has Adam's constant languor and fatigue now removed his ability to speak on air?

Over to you!

Absolutely, and whilst it might be useful for the 5 people who have started listening in the last year, how often will they repeat them? I don’t think any have been particularly relevant to understanding a storyline and it’s only 13mins (less than) anyway.

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/02/2026 07:51

I find it hard to imagine Miranda being a member of the U3A.

On a side note, I do miss Jim.

OrphanBlankly · 26/02/2026 08:06

Absolutely unbelievable, @BeatriceBatchelor. Another character change, after we recently heard she was in a house purchase chain.

Again - as if.

LillianGish · 26/02/2026 08:13

I find Miranda completely surplus to requirements. Beyond the lazy and tedious plot of Brian hooking up with Justin’s ex, she adds nothing. I don’t even find her purchase of Home Farm interesting since it has already been so comprehensively remodeled by the imaginary Gills.

nahhh she is exactly like the members of my mum's music group.

I really miss Jim too. Tracey is too annoying. Her voice has got all... saliva-ish lately, and the constant yapping was getting on my nerves. Chelsea really annoyed me right up until she was giving Lilian her elevator pitch, she clearly knows what she wants with this van and good luck to her.

And yes, Justin is going to throw a wobbly, but Lilian is right. They do talk the talk so they must walk the walk. Assuming water/electricty donation is their support alongside the space.

Abra1t · 26/02/2026 12:00

Smiley's People is on BBC Iplayer and a very young Miranda pops up in one of the episodes, working for the Circus and having an affair with the boss.

EBearhug · 26/02/2026 12:27

Also, I suspect Lillian knows Justin will initially be pissed off, and that may have landed in the pros column of her mental decision making, whether consciously or not.

I used to quietly enjoy passing off a git of a manager by doing things I knew he couldn't complain about without looking bad himself. (A little part of me is still disappointed that someone sensible pointed out that going to HR to ask how to stop me getting involved with the women's network would not be a good move on his part...)

Thought the same about Rex, definitely don't picture him as a rugby player. Sporty yes but he sounds too delicate for rugby!

Would be surprised if Brian knew about their date. Seemed like the SW just wanted to remind us who Rex is and at the same time, Rex gets Brian's approval because, despite current circumstances, he's from the right sort of stock. That way when Brian finds out Alice and Rex are dating, he won't be "oh no, not the taxi driver who lives on a boat!", it'll be "oh wonderful! That jolly nice ex professional rugby player with the businessman father, invite him to dinner!"

Brian liked Chris Carter for himself rather than being in a tizz about his social background, though, so why would he be impressed by Rex's social background? The snob in that family was Jennifer, not Brian.

The "think of it as a starter marriage" remark was an attempt to shut Jennifer up as she bemoaned Chris and Alice having got married, not Brian being anti-Chris. Brian and Chris got on well together, which was why the acrimonious garbage in which those two puppets of the editorial team were caused to have nasty verbal fights irritated me.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/02/2026 20:11

I suspect he will be angry about the high-handed by Lilian behaviour even before being angry about the cost and the nuisance.

There will also be insurance issues.

Madcats · 26/02/2026 14:23

How on earth does Rex fit onto his narrow boat?! He told Brian he used to play “second row”. I quizzed google:

”Second row rugby players (locks) are typically the tallest and most physically imposing players on the field, averaging over 1.98m (6’6) in height and 110-125kg in weight at elite levels. They act as the "engine room," providing crucial power in the scrum and acting as primary jumpers in the lineout.”

Can’t they get anything right!

OrphanBlankly · 26/02/2026 19:16

Helen …

Heavens!

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 26/02/2026 19:25

Does Helen not remember what happened last time she lost her head over a man and jumped into bed with him when she hardly knew him?

FatRosie · 26/02/2026 19:37

This is what Rex looks like: Victor Matfield - Wikipedia

muddyford · 26/02/2026 19:41

Looks as though Dane will be getting the old heave-ho. Seemed a pretty pathetic excuse for a bloke anyway. I hope Finlay wears a kilt...😋

Helen's relations with members of the other sex are always deeply fraught. They chucks them because they are violent to her and they kill themselves, she stalks them and they they drive her to anorexia because tell her what they think of her and she can't cope with it, they abuse and rape her and she tries to kill them....

Run, Finlay! Run now! You may not live far enough away to be safe.

muddyford · 26/02/2026 19:42

Or does he spell it Fionnlagh?

BeaLola · 26/02/2026 19:44

For a nano second I was hoping Mark Bonnar aka Finlay was telling me I was ALL he had been thinking about since November (and I have a lovely DH)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/02/2026 19:48

The BBC cast list spells it Finlay, but we don't know whether they asked him.

Wouldn't Fionnlagh be Irish, and pronounced Fewn-law (more or less)?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/02/2026 19:49

Hey, Helen agreed with him: "Me too" she said.

All she has thought about since November probably has been her, but it's not like her to admit it!

Madcats · 26/02/2026 19:51

FatRosie · 26/02/2026 19:37

Yes exactly! Rex should sound more like Martin Johnson, not a fly half like Jonny Wilkinson.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/02/2026 19:51

I cant believe Mark Bonnar has the time to commit long term to the Archers so I think the relationship will be short lived.

OrphanBlankly · 26/02/2026 19:54

Unless they both disappear to the Highlands for a reasonable length of time.

(I may have speculated on the other thread, can’t remember.)

Darker · 26/02/2026 19:56

I’m hoping Helen gets away.

Susan and Tracey can look after the dairy.

SPQRomanus · 26/02/2026 19:57

Wouldn't you think with her history Helen would be slightly more cautious? I mean it's not going anywhere surely. She won't leave Ambridge and he presumably won't leave Scotland with all his numerous family there. It's shit of her to cheat on dull Dane too, at least do the decent thing and finish with him before shagging the sexy Scot.
