Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you're hoping Ambridge has a pantomime again this year, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Many thanks to @TottersBlankly and @GoldenCupidon for the title suggestions.

Too much to hope, I suppose, that by the time we get to the end of this thread Chelsea's pregnancy is a distant memory and the Horrobins can gear up for a cheap and cheerful Christmas. I really, really hope she doesn't change her mind about the termination. It's a horrible and unrealistic storyline, as most of us have agreed over the past few weeks, but now I just want it to end and be forgotten about.

I do like the idea of Lilian taking on the role of witch in the woods. Much more fun to listen to than Mia sabotaging the Hunt Ball, which is surely bound to go horribly wrong, or the odd wrangling over the stained glass window which we know Peggy won't be contributing to on air Sad, given June Spencer's retirement.

Not a peep out of anybody in Ambridge about all the recent political shenanigans, but that's hardly surprising. Nobody fretting about fuel bills or rampant inflation either.

Also, where's Jenny? I hope Angela Piper's OK.

Over to you!

Cracking thread my dears. So many hilarious points

Agreed. This is the only thread on MN that makes me LOL (does anyone say LOL any more?).

And thanks to Fink and others for explanation of farm sizes.

I agree - it reminds me of some siblings I know where one is clever and awkward and the other is a bit more earthy and worldly-wise, they really help each other.

Having briefly worked in property, I can tell you 17 year olds and even 16 year olds sometimes come in fully expecting to be let loose on a house.

I'd be genuinely worried about George ending up involved in county lines, he wouldn't give a shit either. Maybe (given Freddie's drug storyline not that long ago) he's more likely to end up as a henchman to some kind of criminal instead. He'd probably think nothing of intimidating people.

Well in the not too distant past we had Ed getting mixed up with Timotei didn't we? Can't remember what happened kind of fizzled out. I think it was Tim Oatey? But I am fond of his nickname here.

I still miss Joe and his ferrets

I really don't! He took advantage of any situation and thought the world owed him.

Madcats · 12/11/2022 11:06

What did happen to Timotei? That storyline just faded away as far as I can remember.

ILoveShula · 12/11/2022 11:10

Timotei was instrumental in Mianed not getting the affordable house in Beechwood.

Madcats · 12/11/2022 11:22

Oh gosh, yes, that was a harrowing few weeks. I didn't think Emma would ever forgive Kate (and Peggy).

They would have been fab in Beechwood with Joy's hot tub.

ILoveShula · 12/11/2022 11:28

I can imagine Mianed in a hot tub, alongside Joy and hairy big Mick in his speedos.

Atichen · 12/11/2022 14:49

Surely if the dopey sell of some land they will need to make £120,000 from it (4x£40'000) so they can also give the shares to kenton/shula/lizzy .... (or is that only when they sold the whole farm?)

Only if they sell the whole farm. They've had that argument before. if money from the sold land is being reinvested in the business then the other 3 don't get a share of it.

Completely agree, couldn’t stand him

But if they sold the land to take a world cruise, it would be reasonable for the siblings to expect a share?

What if they were to do something that predictably lessened the value of the shared asset?

Revengeofthepangolins · 12/11/2022 19:52

Selling land to fund a wasting asset like solar panels, albeit wasting over a long period, sounds like v poor management.

There's the potential for an interesting argument there. Is selling the land to rescue you from the consequences of a poor business decision "reinvestment"?

TeenDivided · 13/11/2022 08:48

Presumably though the solar panels are in themselves a good long term investment? Maybe they wouldn't have originally sold land to do it, but they are where they are.

Tulipomania · 13/11/2022 16:45

Solar panels aren't a wasting asset. They are an investment that will repay their value in energy cost savings, all the more so in the current situation.

Revengeofthepangolins · 13/11/2022 16:57

Achieving lower energy bills is a reason to spend money buying the panels, but it isn’t a reason to liquidate the fundamental capital assets of the business.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/11/2022 19:15

Jill! What a complete bitch! Horrible woman.

RachelBosenterfer · 13/11/2022 19:19

Exactly my thoughts @CaptainMyCaptain - what an incredibly nasty woman Jill is.

Octothorpe · 13/11/2022 19:23

Well. This utterly awful SL just keeps on giving, doesn’t it?

echt · 13/11/2022 19:36

Oh FFS. I know by common consent we lay off the strong language on this thread, but really!.

Rockersversuswalter · 13/11/2022 19:37

Bloody Hell he's boo-hooing again!

LillianGish · 13/11/2022 19:48

I didn't think this storyline could get any more unbelievable! It sounded as if Patricia Green was literally choking on her words and I'm not surprised. I'm also finding the hunt ball stuff utterly excruciating. I think this is the worst The Archers has ever been in my lifetime.

TeenDivided · 13/11/2022 19:53

This is not Jill as we know her.

LillianGish · 13/11/2022 20:00

It didn't even sound like Jill.

echt · 13/11/2022 20:03

Was the croaky voice and the comment on her looking tired getting the plot in train for her demise?
