Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads, which has now passed 125,000 posts! (See below for further details.)

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you lust after Russ, or other unusual things. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

For the thread title I was very tempted to go with @R4's title suggestion of Come follow the exploits of Brine, Lily, Elizabeth, Usha, Ruari, George and Helen. Know collectively as bleurgh. because on the last thread @DadDadDad, our invaluable statistician, identified a post from @ILoveShula as the 125,000th. Many of us felt it was fitting that the post simply said Bleurgh!. Grin

However, feeling that was a bit niche for the casual listener, I adapted @MayIDestroyYou's title suggestion in the end. Thanks, MIDY!

Back to Ambridge this week, after our enjoyable sojourn at Lower Loxley last week! Will we go with Alice to rehab? (Hope not.) Will the petulant Adam make good his threat to leave Home Farm? (Hope so.) What will Jennifer say? (Lots, I hope, and preferably to Brian.) Will the fete be a triumph? (Of course it will.) Will we ever return to Brookfield, or have they all fallen unnoticed into the slurry pit? (Let's hope Pip did, anyway.) WHERE IS PAT? (Can't answer this one.)

Over to you!

Couldn't agree more, Terhou!

Well, get to know private mental health providers, of all kinds. Of course they will take the full price.

If they can't manage to keep their patients more than a couple of days, I'd say there's a potential case for breach of contract. Another one for Usha, maybe?

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/07/2021 11:29

Mushroom burger? It's a a mushroom I eat meat but prefer a grilled portobella mushroom and halloumi in a bun to a meat burger. It is still a mushroom though.

Cauliflower rice wouldn't fool me and would just give me chronic wind. I can only eat them curried.

theThreeofWeevils · 23/07/2021 11:51

Mere is a vegan (and a PITA)
Whereas Nic is humus Grin

Taswama · 23/07/2021 22:22

I see the thread has gone off at a bit of a tangent.
I assumed the 'point' of yesterday's episode was a) don't lie to your husband or he'll assume the worst and b) nightclubs have reopened - hurray!
(Pretty much summarises the episode in case anyone cba to listen).

ILoveTracey · 23/07/2021 22:36

This thread is making me very hungry for harvest festival autumn fayre. I love roast vegetables of every description but sadly the sweet potatoes, the squashes and the cauliflowers no longer agree with me.

I definitely prefer a moussaka over a lasagne though.

Was very excited when i decided Roy's mysterious phone companion is trans. Totally explains the no profile/ history. I feel like stop sleuth. Probably wrong now though. Normally I leave the predicting to Mystic Bore Blush

Roysnewshirt · 24/07/2021 07:05

Yes, that was quite a prediction @ILoveTracey but could the BBC handle that twist? Roy might be transphobic and I don’t know if the airwaves could cope with broadcasting his unreconstructed views on the matter. Having said that, may be I do him a disservice - he has had a surrogate as a girlfriend in the past so he is actually pretty open-minded

ILoveTracey · 24/07/2021 08:50

*top sleuth oops.

I'm sure (if I'm right) there will be little to no nuance to it.

You're totally right, I guess it depends on if we have old bigoted Roy or new woke Roy. Hmm

Had to satiate my midnight roast veg cravings with some ginger biscuits. Didn't entirely hit the spot but I suppose ginger is a root so there is a small over lap on the venn diagram of what I wanted and what I got.

Had to take the cat to a different vet yesterday which happens to be by my favourite chippy. We live too far to frequent it in usual circumstances so mid afternoon chippy tea spoiled me for dinner until you guys whetted my appetite. Even the trauma flashbacks to my dad's joyfully-produced, frothy vanilla milkshake looking, homemade parsnip juice didn't assuage the veg cravings. ConfusedEnvy

ILoveTracey · 24/07/2021 09:02

Also, whilst I'm procrastinating the last bits of packing for our glorious British summer holiday glamp, I'm really annoyed at the Kyle conclusion.

What a great opportunity to tackle adult bullying, snipey WhatsApp group politics and the like, totally squandered with the life lesson just blackmail your bullies.

If we had to have an unrealistic conclusion, I'd have preferred Kyle to have been shunned from local businesses pub, tea room etc as the village rallied in support of Helen.

TheSilveryPussycat · 24/07/2021 10:32

@ILoveTracey, home made parsnip juice ??

And I totally agree with you re Koyle. Your scenario is satisfying, the SWs is just meh.

ILoveTracey · 24/07/2021 10:45

My sad has always been a bit of juicing fiend. He'd put carrot juice in all his sauces to sneak extra veg in.

I came home from 6th form one sunny afternoon and he greeted me at the door, try this it's amazing. It did indeed look glorious.
Needless to say our opinions differed quite strongly on the flavour.
(And I like parsnips.)

My favourite parsnip recipe is roasted with maple syrup and mustard and served in a rocket salad with fresh orange and grilled halloumi and buckets of maple mustard orange dressing!

A bit like the way to get out of your abusive relationship is to stab him.

Unreconstructed?Hmm
If all things are acceptable then being superstraight is as good a sexual preference as any other.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/07/2021 14:20

Yes, that is a perfectly valid viewpoint, and probably shared by a huge proportion of the heterosexual male population who don't particularly want to have sex with someone who has male genitals.

It is not transphobia any more than finding smoker's mouth something you don't want to wake up beside, or being unable to stand the way somebody laughs all the time and not wanting to spend time with them, is phobic.

(No means no whether the person saying it is male or female, and regardless to whom they are saying it.)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/07/2021 14:35

Layla might turn out to be polyesterphobic, and that would probably be a dealbreaker.

Mere is a vegan (and a PITA). No I’m not. Well, I’m not a vegan.

Polyesterphobic? I was trying to make that into a sexual preference until I re-read it.

RandomCatGenerator · 24/07/2021 20:48

So we’re assuming Ben / Ruairi has promised the bouncer a blow job, yes? Weird story line.

I think maybe trans too. I’m not sure I trust the SWs with this one…

Taswama · 24/07/2021 21:10

Was it a gay club then?

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/07/2021 21:51

I did that with polyesterphobic too.

Poppins2016 · 25/07/2021 03:03

Finally caught up after missing a couple of weeks (guess I didn't have much motivation to listen)!

I felt as though I might as well be listening to Only Fools & Horses, not The Archers, when Eddie and his limo were on air. Ridiculous storyline! The Kyle storyline isn't ringing true for me either. 🙄

The problem is that it’s far harder to write a good comic script than it is good drama. This is proven time and time again (remember the low point of the portaloo being tipped over Emma!?! Dreadful). For me, good comedy comes in the form of astute social perception but the existing SWs simply prefer good old slapstick with a French farce undertone…

Also some SWs are simply not as good as others.

Taswama · 25/07/2021 09:31

The Kyle storyline that started and finished in a week felt utterly pointless.

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 09:59

@Taswama I agree. There’s been some interesting moments in Lee and Helen recently of seeing the lasting impact of Rob’s abuse. But this wasn’t really it. Adult bullying would have been a worthwhile story to pursue - and dealing with that sort of neighbourhood cliquiness.
