Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads, which has now passed 125,000 posts! (See below for further details.)

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you lust after Russ, or other unusual things. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

For the thread title I was very tempted to go with @R4's title suggestion of Come follow the exploits of Brine, Lily, Elizabeth, Usha, Ruari, George and Helen. Know collectively as bleurgh. because on the last thread @DadDadDad, our invaluable statistician, identified a post from @ILoveShula as the 125,000th. Many of us felt it was fitting that the post simply said Bleurgh!. Grin

However, feeling that was a bit niche for the casual listener, I adapted @MayIDestroyYou's title suggestion in the end. Thanks, MIDY!

Back to Ambridge this week, after our enjoyable sojourn at Lower Loxley last week! Will we go with Alice to rehab? (Hope not.) Will the petulant Adam make good his threat to leave Home Farm? (Hope so.) What will Jennifer say? (Lots, I hope, and preferably to Brian.) Will the fete be a triumph? (Of course it will.) Will we ever return to Brookfield, or have they all fallen unnoticed into the slurry pit? (Let's hope Pip did, anyway.) WHERE IS PAT? (Can't answer this one.)

Over to you!

Sorry DCat, I still love you but you ain't an EBT

Roysnewshirt · 21/07/2021 18:29

(tangential) Pretty Woman was when I first noticed Richard Gere's remarkable resemblance to an English Bull Terrier

You’ve made my day @BoreOfWhabylon! That made me laugh a lot!

I love your new name @ILoveShula Please keep it! I have dug my copy of S and S off the shelf and am now planning to spend the evening on the sofa with the Colonel…

I know she hasn’t gone yet but I think Alice will be back from Nottingham within a fortnight…

ILoveBodger · 21/07/2021 18:42

Too late. @Roysnewshirt

I also wanted a siamese cat.

Sadly, EBTs aren't all that long lived so I'd get the next best thing a JRT, but DCat has been an only child too long.

Won't get a Tricki Woo.

Alice & Amy won' t last long

Edmontine · 21/07/2021 19:18

Ffs! How many years does Chris think it takes to drive to Nottingham?

Was like an EastEnder hearing their nearest and dearest was leaving London. Hmm

R4 · 21/07/2021 19:23

Ah, you beat me to it Edmontine
Rehab was 4 hours away.
Nottm is a mere hour away.

MrsEmmaKnightley · 21/07/2021 19:27

Chris won't have a clue where Nottingham is. He's not been ouside Borsetshire apart from his trips to Southampton, Las Vegas and a festival.

They do have maps on the internet, I am told...
MrsEmmaKnightley · 21/07/2021 20:09

I think they went to Newmarket too, or considered it.

No need for maps these days Asking, you just use SatNav.

ILoveTracey · 21/07/2021 20:40

Hello all, not up to date with tonight but keep typing and failing to send.
Chicken pox, isolation, many other ills plague pit. Just back from touching up the large red cross on the door.

Have to say I think Roy's friend is going to be the tall one, recently transitioned mtf.

Thanks for the not so new thread. Waves to my sister.

Absolute scream Bore.

Pretty Woman makes me feel sad and dirty and not in a good way.

Boop Helen and Lee.

Oh, Nottingham's not that bad. Better than rehab, anyway. Or Ambridge. Though if Amy makes the family Franks' signature parsnip lasagne she'll be out of there like shit off a shovel (which one imagines is rather how it tastes).

Nasty of Alice to expect Fallon (who couldn't WAIT to go haring off to betray Alice's confidences, please note) to spy on her STBXH and infant. I am quite sure she will be furious when she discovers Amy reporting back to Ambridge. Jam! Angst! Fistcuffs! Christyffur drowning self and daughter in conveniently deep stretch of the Am! Susan sectioned!

no, I did mean 'with sharp implements' rather than ''under the MHA 1983', but either would do.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/07/2021 21:29

I fear that, following Midwife Extraordinaire Amy's ministrations, Alice will return restored to full health and her little problem will never be referred to again.

Until the next time.

ILoveShula · 21/07/2021 21:48

I've not been to Nottingham or rehab.

Parsnip lasagne? Bleurgh!

I liked tonight's episode

Edmontine · 21/07/2021 21:51

It'll be a new thing: "Spending a few weeks with Amy." Like "tired and emotional" back in the dawn of time. Nod. Wink. Wry head-shake.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/07/2021 22:22

Or The Nuns of Prestatyn.

TheSilveryPussycat · 21/07/2021 23:03

I love a cookery challenge. Strickly speaking, parsnips are out of season, but I think it would work with a layer of red lentils cooked with onion and tomatoes, and I suspect a top layer of cheese sauce might actually work too.

TheSilveryPussycat · 21/07/2021 23:05

The lasagne sheets would be replaced with slices of just-cooked parsnip.

I made a beetroot and banana cake once. It was a challenge to make the least appealing cake for an irritating friend who hates beetroot and bananas.

It was quite easy- used a carrot cake recipe, substituted grated beetroot for carrot and bananas for sultanas. It worked well.

echt · 22/07/2021 00:26

I think the SL for Alice is going to have her hit rock bottom before she gets on the road to recovery. I loved the way she lies to herself, saying she liked living in Bath, and Brian calling her out on it.

EBearhug · 22/07/2021 00:55

I went to Nottingham for a wedding once.

I made a beetroot and chocolate cake, which was good.

Roysnewshirt · 22/07/2021 07:48

Parsnip lasagne sounds disgusting.

Bit too convenient for me that within 48 hours of Kyle being revealed as the neighbour from hell, he is spotted having an illicit liaison in his spare bedroom. It usually takes years for such retribution to materialise - if it ever does. Now this little SL has all been neatly wrapped up within a week. I’m glad though as it had the potential to be very tedious if strung out.

I was expecting Helen to say to Lee how she regrets that the sale of Bridge Farm has allowed people like Kyle into her life. I still don’t believe she would be happy renting on an estate but at some point I suppose I will have to let that go.

Edmontine · 22/07/2021 08:05

Don't let it go, Roysnewshirt! I don't believe it, either.

And I'm not convinced that this week's writer is aware that Beechwood was built on land that Helen used to own. So, so weird that at no time did she respond with "We were right to be worried about what sort of people would move here, when we sold that land ..."

Honestly, Emma's Little Grange idea was so much better. Why on earth couldn't Helen have set up a mobile home on Bridge Farm land?
