Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you’d love to be in the Mysteries, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for thread title ideas to @Roysnewshirt and @Witchwife. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Do we think the Mysteries replace the usual fun Hmm storylines around giving things up for Lent? Light relief while we wait to see if the SWs go for realism and tragedy when Alice’s baby is born, or bottle out (as it were) and go for everything being fine? Will Jazzer and Tracy get back together again? (No bookie in the land would take money for that, of course they will.)

Over to you!

We're galloping towards the new thread. Hope @PursuingProxemicExactitude will be worth the effort. Grin

ILoveShula · 30/03/2021 12:28

There's Fat Paul and there was a Fat Dan. Fat Paul is Ambridge's resident obese person. Everyone else is slim, apart from Clarrie, who is a bit chubby. Susan as we found out this week has a muffin top but that's from having weak core muscles. Shula does not have a whopping big backside.

Fat Dan ran the excess weight off then ran away to Sandhurst.

Taswama · 30/03/2021 12:50

Loving your title suggestion @LillianGish - you have a real talent for it.

I agree, too many silent characters doesn't work.

No pressure @PursuingProxemicExactitude Wink

Thanks, Asking! I knew you'd know about Audrey. (As an aside, I've always loathed the name Audrey - apologies to any Audreys here - and yet Audrey Hepburn is my all-time favourite actress. I assume she's single-handedly responsible for the recent revival in the name's fortunes.)

I used to know an elderly Audrey from the Valleys who was a good person. Other than her I don't think I have ever met one.

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/03/2021 13:57

@R4

So nice not to have to cope with a bullying Neanderthal constantly eroding the self-esteem and sanity of his nice wife Nice? NICE? Seen when has Alice been nice? Alice never thinks about anyone but herself. How could anyone 'nice' send that foul voicemail to Emmur?

Have I missed a bit of irony or something?Confused

Slice has never been nice and I don't really get the Chris hate. He definitely needs to open his eyes and go to AlAnon but why shouldn't he want to protect a new born baby?
CaptainMyCaptain · 30/03/2021 13:58

Alice not Slice obviously.

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/03/2021 14:03

@ILoveShula the capsules have a legitimate use in catering, apparently, so are fairly easy to get hold of - no hanging round dodgy drug dealers maybe. I know where the boys I suspected of taking it live, a 'naice' middle class village.

Nah, they're all named after Audrey Roberts. Talking of names I loathe - Ivy. Ugh. Ivy Tilsley.

If Hollywood starlet names are in vogue, how long before Doris makes a comeback?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/03/2021 15:00

Grin I have wondered about Marlene and Marilyn.

I like flower and plant names.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/03/2021 15:36

Ros(i)e we have, and Holly, and Lily, and Hazel, and Heather, and Ivy; does Coriander count?

KirstenBlest · 30/03/2021 15:50

Poppy

I went to school with two sisters called Grace and Marilyn. They were named after their aunts, I think.

Taswama · 30/03/2021 16:18

I think it's old lady names that are in fashion. Some of them inevitably overlap with old lady names. See Ava.

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/03/2021 16:21

Emily and Charlotte used to be old lady names. Now is the time for Margaret, Barbara, Pamela, Penelope, Pauline, Anita, Jane, Cynthia, Joy(ce) et al to make a comeback. (One of those is my name)

KirstenBlest · 30/03/2021 16:40

How about Ann(e), Mary and Susan as baby names

TheSilveryPussycat · 30/03/2021 16:50

My brain thinks Fat Dan was Fat Paul, but my brain is not always reliable...

TracyHorrobin · 30/03/2021 17:06

I'm also late to this thread but thought somebody might have mentioned me.

GraceArcher · 30/03/2021 18:29

Why would anyone mention you? Nobody mentioned ME!
(clutches at pearls)

GraceArcher · 30/03/2021 18:31

I mean I'm the star of the series. I was front page news. I'm completely unforgettable.
(stamps off in a flounce)

GraceArcher · 30/03/2021 18:33

There's even a stained glass window in St Stephen's as my memorial.

Taswama · 30/03/2021 22:00

Well Grace has been popular for a while.
I think Joyce is a lovely name, makes me think of Joyce Grenfell.
