Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you’d love to be in the Mysteries, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for thread title ideas to @Roysnewshirt and @Witchwife. Apologies if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Do we think the Mysteries replace the usual fun Hmm storylines around giving things up for Lent? Light relief while we wait to see if the SWs go for realism and tragedy when Alice’s baby is born, or bottle out (as it were) and go for everything being fine? Will Jazzer and Tracy get back together again? (No bookie in the land would take money for that, of course they will.)

Over to you!

I too am somewhat in agreement with theThreeof.

I wanted the Chrysalis terminated because in a real life situation I think that would have been the logical thing to do.

If they had handled this realistically, Chris and Alice would be in touch with organisations like Al-Anon and AA, and Social Services.

It is an unpleasant SL. In real life, I would like to think that children are planned and not accidents that happen to alcoholic mothers who continue with an unplanned pregnancy because the caveman husband desperately wants a child.

Had they terminated the Chrysalis, there could have been strong SLs re alcoholism and marriage breakdown.

Nith · 26/03/2021 09:18

He has no one to talk to

As I've said before, other than AlAnon, to whom he desperately needs to talk to inject a dose of reality.

R4 · 26/03/2021 10:23

I have never been a fan of Alice's whiny self-centredness but it is getting unbearable. If Chris loves her as much as he says then he should stop letting her call the shots and make her get the help she needs.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/03/2021 11:27

@Nith

SO'C's little vanity project vilifying a man who was dead and couldn't sue

I've been trying to work out what that was without success. Can you enlighten us, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime?

Dead Girls Tell No Tales.

www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2015/38/dead-girls-tell-no-tales

Godfrey Baseley, the villain of that piece, was dead and thus had no right of reply to the accusations made against him.

Incidentally, the first paragraph here
www.theguardian.com/media/mediamonkeyblog/2015/dec/06/media-monkeys-diary-the-archers-you-and-yours-whos-who
which I found while looking for that seems to me to sum O'Connor up.

Taswama · 26/03/2021 20:15

Agree with @theThreeofWeevils ! (There's a first time for everything)

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 16:49

Wish the thread would fill up faster. I'm tired of this name and don't want to change mid-conversation.

Surely the producers must be ready to reinstate the normal timetable? That would gee things up a bit.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:33

I feel your pain, PursuingProxemicExactitude

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:34

I'm not keen on mine.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:34

I don't even love Shula.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:37

Well, I do in the way that you care about people who have been in your life for decades. She's a fairly dependable character (Dr Locke aside), and she has good qualities. She's good with Freddie.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:37

I still dislike Pip.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 18:38

There you go PPE. If they had more episodes per week we would have more to discuss.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 19:10

Yup!

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:31

I miss the Friday night cliffhangers like the ones from the Brine''n'Shove days.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:31

And that it was only Saturday that was not a TA day.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:33

Dum ti dum
De dum ti dum
Dum ti dum di de de day

Dum ti dum
De dum ti dum
I want TA every day

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:36

I'm not keen on Loose Ends but my ears switch off when I'm reading or writing. Just in case you are wondering.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:36

IRL I'm one of those almost invisible who is too nice for her own good. They should have made me out of coir.

But I still hate Pip.

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 19:36

I'm doing my best PPE

DoctorTwo · 27/03/2021 19:48

Only a couple of hundred posts to go @ILoveShula, you got this! :o

So, it was nice to hear Helen wasn't it?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/03/2021 20:56

Looks like we might need a new title soon, then! Any ideas?

Thanks Doc

ILoveShula · 27/03/2021 21:09

@PursuingProxemicExactitude needs a new name... ?

It's always nice to hear Helen, she's another favourite character. Brittle but doggedly independent. I don't know how she manages to raise her two sons with only her mother and father to help.
