Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Shula would make a brilliant vicar, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @PoulePouletteEternellement for the equine theme to the new thread title. I wanted to work in Rex being a dark horse and lots of others too, but (you may feel fortunately) there's a character limit for the title.

I wonder if this thread will see us through to the end of February. The last one filled up in under a month, which was like old times. All depends on what delights are in store for us in the coming weeks, I suppose. I'm hoping that Gavin has spilled the beans on Victoria, she's also arrested, and the lads are found. Having said that, I'm not confident that in the real world they would get the support and care they need to turn their lives around and get proper jobs. It was good to hear on the last thread from @Trickyboy, who has professional experience of investigating this vile crime. Any comments on how things turn out in the long run for those rescued?

I knew that AAQATT would come up with the goods. that makes Alice around 30 weeks now

I can't believe how long ago September seems. Soosan and Jenny Darling have been surprisingly hands off during Alice's pregnancy. By contrast, Kate, rather typically, seems to have stepped back from her, 'I will be your doula as you give birth in one of my yurts' mode.

yes, I corrected myself and also apologised in the post immediately underneath that one, but thanks :)

@EBearhug

I'm sure there was some discussion about Johnny and inheritance, around the time he was starting his apprenticeship. I don't remember the details, what was decided, though. Or maybe it was around the time Peggy was doing her will and leaving Tony out.
Missed this reply just then EBearhug. Thank you. No doubt it will all emerge in a few years time. There's certainly plenty of scope for disputes!

Noooo MadameButterface The stars were just one for each of you for being so on top of your timings, not acronym alerting at all. Sorry it wasn't clear.

ILoveShula · 12/02/2021 12:56

The Chrysalis is due on 20 April. In true soap style, an Easter baby.
It will be dedded before then.

MadameButterface · 12/02/2021 13:00

sorry nettie, I see what you mean now, I'm not at my nicest best today because I fell asleep on the sofa until 3 am then couldn't get back to sleep until 6.30 Blush

Which diary are you looking at?Confused Easter is April 4th this year. The Chrysalis might be an Easter baby but, if so, it will be prem.

Sorry if this sounds cranky. I, too, woke in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep until waking-up time!

Roysnewshirt · 12/02/2021 14:35

Bloody hell that is horrific @Roysnewshirt. No thank you

Agree it might be a bit more suited to Eastenders...Sorry for such shocking speculation...

R4 · 12/02/2021 14:52

Sorry for such shocking speculation...
I should think so too. Fancy suggesting a storyline that happens outside of the Ambridge forcefield. What were you thinking of!?Shock

I, too, woke in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep until waking-up time!

Me too - must be something in the air ...

Nith · 12/02/2021 15:13

Another bad night here, too. Combination of sore arm from Covid vaccination and work issues, I don't think I can blame TA unless it is in fact sending out stay-awake waves mysteriously through the radio.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/02/2021 15:13

I too am not at my brightest and best, on five hours' sleep last night...

It must be something in the water! We've all caught insomnia!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/02/2021 15:27

I, on the other hand, had the best night's sleep I've had for several days. Sorry to break the trend!

I have a vague memory of a Paddy Greene interview, where she said there was no say over storylines, but she had sometimes pointed out Jill wouldn't say it like that, she'd be more likely to use words like... but that's as far as it goes.

ILoveShula · 12/02/2021 16:28

Oh yeah. Was looking at 2020 as i had it open to look up the due date.

MadameButterface · 12/02/2021 16:33

it was a new moon last night and mercury is in retrograde. this probably explains the mass insomnia outbreak in some way but chuffed if I know how. Kate would probably know.

BeardieWeirdie · 12/02/2021 17:10

Well last night made me feel rather uncomfortable - what’s the world coming too when Shula sounds like the most reasonable, least irritating character in a scene? I’m sure she’ll be wringing her hands to Alan again before long, preferably off-air.

UntamedWisteria · 12/02/2021 17:11

Shula's declaration of love for Kirsty was most disconcerting.

And I just don't think Kirsty wold be so stupid. She's generally been quite level-headed. Something was said about her being in the all clear after her arrest. Obviously a harbinger of doom.

Roysnewshirt · 12/02/2021 18:11

I find it really irritating when people say that as if they are talking on behalf of God. I have had it done to me a few times and while I am sure it is being said with the best of intentions it just oversteps the mark.

BeardieWeirdie · 12/02/2021 18:22

I must have missed the declaration of love for Kirsty. Phew, I can get back to my normal way of thinking about Shula.

UnholyStramash · 12/02/2021 19:49

While I read back a few pages because I haven’t read this thread properly since maybe last week, can I just ask if it’s just me imagining Judy wotsit at home with Charles Collingwood and trying out her Shula voice complete with annoying sighs? Charles: no, no, dahling, that doesn’t sound nearly sanctimonious enough.

Taswama · 12/02/2021 20:34

Great image there Unholy !

I loved Emma yesterday too, especially her saying how amazing giving birth is.

I did not know Shula is married to Brian in real life. How is that possible?

Judy Bennet looks exactly how I imagine JD- someone who must have been attractive as a young woman and still is. My mental picture of Shula is an older and slightly less galumphing Miranda Hart.
