New posters welcome - with your fresh views and burning questions.

Old posters welcome - with your jaded views and knowledgeable answers.

But new posters feel free to be jaded, and old posters feel free to ask questions!

How is the Pip storyline going to play out and do you care?

As usual, if you want to mention the advertised storylines for future episodes, there's a separate thread for that - no spoilers here, please.

Just imagine we're all sitting round a table at The Bull --> Archers

Kate's cottage was let out as a holiday cottage to fund Spiritual Home's set up costs, just as it had been when she lived in SA. There are a few other holiday cottages at Home Farm (undefined number) but Alice lives in hers and the Tractor driver (Jeff) who has just left used to have one too.
Jenifer and Lilian used to sound posher in the 60s, and went to the grammmar school. But then my aunt (and Mum) used to have elocution lessons at their state non-Grammar school.

WineAndTiramisu · 21/01/2018 10:34

For everyone saying that's it's unrealistic that the police weren't involved in the Noli drug storyline, it's not.

We don't phone the police regarding drug use, people's medical problems are private. The only reason to call the police would be a wider public health issue (deaths from 'bad batches' of drugs etc)

Interesting Wine, thanks. I wondered if maybe Nolly being only 16 might change things, I guess if her party was after or on the day of her birthday then she was not 16 any more, by the skin of her teeth.

Would it make a difference if it was a child who had taken drugs?

ppeatfruit · 21/01/2018 11:59

Nah, not out of character IMO Jessie Noli's is conflicted about the drugs thing as Feddie pointed out she didn't care about the 'shrooms. She was very pee'ed off about Kate turning up to the party so she did it to punish her I suppose.

Thanks wine that's fascinating.

Jardindhiver · 21/01/2018 16:35

They did make a point of saying that the party was the day before her birthday, so maybe this will be significant.....

Puremince · 21/01/2018 16:45

I'm confused about the Am. The pollution which has had such a sudden effect on the Am has been caused by chemicals from an old dump site getting into the river. The dump (and chemicals) have been there for years, without impacting on the Am (no floating fish on New Year's Day) but now has suddenly leached into the river.

I could understand that happening as a result of the flood in 2015, but why so suddenly now? Have I missed something?

ppeatfruit · 21/01/2018 16:52

Maybe the builders who paid Brine to dump their refuse buried it quite deeply and it's taken all the time (30 years?) to leech it's way into the river.

I noticed that the fashionable 'wild swimming' Had JUST started at New Year's Day! I wonder why?!

WineAndTiramisu · 21/01/2018 17:33

JessieMcJessie wouldn't really make a difference, unless they had obtained it off parents/older 'boyfriends' etc or were younger, teenagers do stupid things!

The parents could go to the police though, which would be the usual outcome I would think!

Peartree17 · 21/01/2018 18:13

This could be a really interesting, long-running story line - Aldridge reversal in fortunes and having to adapt to changes. But I suspect there will be a magical insurance rescue or similar.

Eastpoint · 21/01/2018 18:21

Noli was 17 on her birthday.

Timetogetup0630 · 21/01/2018 22:37

Environme Agency have lost a huge number of staff under this Goevrenment. Highly unlikely they would spring into action with such speed and rigour for such a minor spillage....
Besides they will be busy with flood protection issues this week.

TheAntiBoop · 21/01/2018 22:54

I don't think I can face another 'family goes through financial peril' sl

And what ever happened about Helens legal expenses?

It's all crap - like Brookfield and the compensation that was going to wipe them out but pip solved it by renting out the cottage and doing some external work. If only life were so simple...

echt · 22/01/2018 01:37

We need someone interested in spreadsheets to tot up who owes what and to whom.

BashStreetKid · 22/01/2018 07:21

Pat'n'Tone remortgaged to pay Helen's bills, didn't they? And that may well all be paid off now they have the money from the sale of the land.

DadDadDad · 22/01/2018 08:37

echt - sorry, I'm not going to bite... I suspect (as others have suggested) in Ambridge money does not obey the normal laws of arithmetic!

OP posts:
cathf · 22/01/2018 10:20

Oohh, this is one of my favourite topics! The magic Ambridge money fairy. The one that allows Helen to live very well by selling a couple of hunks of cheese a month and no doubt turn Tom into a keffir millionaire.
The same one that enabled Brookfield to go from broke to investing in a new milking parlour on the back of a couple of weeks of higher milk prices.
As the owner of an artisan food business, I want to live there!

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2018 12:26

I really enjoyed Susan' s gossip being overheard by Alice. And Susan saying that she "doesn't gossip" !!!

Oh dear looks like Alice's NY resolution for a dry January just took a nose dive.

Poor Jenny her happy outcome will be shattered when Lizzie mentions the ambulance and who it contained to her (when?)!

RubyLennoxExists · 22/01/2018 12:53

Cathf I think I can help you. Simply sell a parcel of land to your local land developer; make yourself heir to the widow of a toilet roll magnate, or even get a job milking cows. Extra hint - cow milking pays a whole lot better than plucking chickens. HTH

MrsArthurShappey · 22/01/2018 13:32

Susan's always horrified if anyone suggests she's a gossip isn't she? I think she genuinely doesn't regard herself as such.

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2018 13:51

That's true MrsArthur The character is well drawn and acted

Fink · 22/01/2018 14:22

I'm reminded of the year Clarrie gave up gossiping for Lent and encouraged Susan to consider doing the same. Susan was perplexed because she never gossiped anyway so what would be the point of giving it up?!
Disclaimer: I really dislike Susan. I may have a disproportionately long memory (grudge) for ridiculous things she says.

meredintofpandiculation · 22/01/2018 18:20

Justin's had to do a lot of forgiving of Archers sisters hasn't he? First Lilian now Jennifer. He'd have done better to stay with Miranda (then we wouldn't have to listen to his excruciating cuddly teddy bear act)

LillianGish · 22/01/2018 19:24

Glad it’s not just me mered - I can’t bear to listen to Justin supposedly being nice. He absolutely makes me cringe - I have no idea what Lillian sees in him, the very thought of them doing a loved up scene makes my toes curl.

DoctorTwo · 22/01/2018 19:27

Anybody else think Roy will impregnate Lexi before Ian and Adam get the chance?

MikeUniformMike · 22/01/2018 19:33

Justin is good looking in a sort of Simon Williams way. His hair is maybe a bit longer. He also has lots of money.
