The Archers: Will Pip grow or Jill blow? Lil make her vow or Justin take his bow? Discussion #83

TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

Gah I had three episodes saved to listen to whilst wrapping and that was what I got, I had to hit the gin early!

have a great time at Young Marx Cromwell, NT Live did a bit of intro about the Bridge Theatre and it looks fab. Am definitely planning a trip down there next year.

meredintofpandiculation · 23/12/2017 22:40

I heard that "archers listener" being wheeled out on the R4 feedback programme again. She doesn't like the current SL, not a patch on the excellence of the Helen pantomime last year. Great relief to return to the relative sanity of mumsnet.

R4 · 23/12/2017 23:34

That was my reaction, too: who made her spokesperson for the listenership?Angry

I'm disappointed with Huge. He started well - when he had to undo the mess that SOC left - but he's just as bad now with LIlian/Justin and Pip/Pup.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/12/2017 01:47

Pip/Pup

You know given a free choice I would vote for the Lilian/Justin annoyance over the ghastliness which will be GoldenPips and GoldenPups.

I'm taking money at the moment on Pip implying that Toby wants nothing to do with the baby with maximum prejudice, when she dictated the terms all the way along and made it quite clear she doesn't need/want him any further.

NotdeadyetBOING · 24/12/2017 07:38

Another delurker here. WTAF was that?! Whoever was responsible for writing Friday's episode should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2017 08:29

The writers don't determine the storyline, though. The Editor is largely responsible for that. The BBC hierarchy approve the general direction of the programme. They're all to blame. Angry

I wonder how much progress they've made with recruiting another editor. It seems incredibly slow. Almost as slow as my own employer, where it usually takes the actual departure of a senior person at the end of their three months' notice before it occurs to anyone to start looking for a replacement. Hmm

IrisAtwood · 24/12/2017 08:39

I turned the radio off during Justin’s monologue about luuurve. Utter rubbish.
As for Pip and Toby, that is another storyline I can’t stand and completely unbelievable.

Gruach · 24/12/2017 08:40

Oh good - it's Sunday.

I'm placing an early bet on twins.

Xmas Grin

And, btw, I hope you all have an utterly splendid Christmas. This thread is still the most fun it's possible to have on the internet - thank you for continuing to make the terrible addiction such a source of shared wisdom, wit and hilarity.

I’m with you on the twins Gruach!

Having had a crazy RL year I’ve lurked more than I’ve posted but I have enjoyed checking out what you lot think...even when I managed to lock myself out of MN , forget my alias email and password and had to peer the window like an urchin.
Wishing you all a fabulous Christmas Xmas Smile

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 24/12/2017 10:20

Agree about twins.

Merry Christmas to you all, my lovely invisible friends Xmas Smile

birdsdestiny · 24/12/2017 10:39

Yes twins tonight and Jenny etc on Christmas Day. Happy Christmas Xmas Smile

RolfNotRudolf · 24/12/2017 10:46

I'm guessing the next 2 nights will cover Pip's big reveal to her family.
Because if anyone is going to upstage the birthday celebrations for the son of God, it'll be Pip. Confused

To quote Jennifer, "I'm getting too old for all this."

Happy Christmas all 🎄🎁🍾

RolfNotRudolf · 24/12/2017 11:35

Isn't Pip in Pup just a rerun of the Helen Henry SL? Parents won't be happy (esp David); and Pip will be adamant she can go it alone (while simultaneously relying on family for employment, accommodation and child care).
Helen's saving grace is she is acted well.

I agree with all of you! Also James Bellamy as a ghastly product of his upbringing got me thinking of how awful the Pipbrat might turn out. I don‘t expect to still be around 20 years from now though - a sort of relief.

I have no memory of Ralph. I recall being told Lilian had a dead husband and lived on Guernsey. NO idea if that‘s accurate.

AuldHeathen · 24/12/2017 13:20

is Pip 12 weeks yet?

I‘d like to wish all of you a happy time over the next few weeks, , however you mark this time. I am feeling nostalgic for toddler Christmases - when you could pour them into clothing very quickly on busy days, feed them regularly, etc. Though it was morehectic, you somehow had more control. Instead I‘ve got 3 of 4 adults all waiting to use the same shower at almost 1.30 pm. One of them quite frankly stinks and has just told me he‘s had the same pyjamas on for a month but has no other pjs to his name. Grrr!

C8H10N4O2 · 24/12/2017 13:33

Except for the fact she’s employed by her parents, lives at home and was reliant on them for free childcare.

A bit harsh - she works in the family business and was the driving force behind building the dairy products business. She developed and created the cheeses they produce and use to run the shop as well until Rob pushed them to shut it down.

Plus Henry was planned and Helen did talk about how she was going to manage it in quite practical terms - even though Tony wasn't happy with the method. She did rely on family support but I think that is true for most people with local family isn't it?

This could possibly be me letting my liking of Helen-actress and disliking Pip-actress get the better of me!

RolfNotRudolf · 24/12/2017 13:39

I don‘t expect to still be around 20 years from now though - a sort of relief.
Well Auld Heathen if there isn't a better reason for euthanasia than this one I'm yet to hear it Grin

AuldHeathen · 24/12/2017 13:57

Em, l think that could be taken in more than one way, Rolf Grin

RolfNotRudolf · 24/12/2017 14:04

Certainly not aimed at you personally Auld Blush
But a general "Jenny Test" when listeners finally concede defeat at yet another ludicrous-been-there-already plot line and say "I'm getting to old for this" and feel relief at the prospect of not having to listen to future plot developments - then it's time to pull the plug Grin

No, no, Rolf, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. I get the sentiment you were suggesting though l suppose most people would pull the plug on their radios rather than any other piece of equipment if TA continues to be.Smile
