TA (The Archers) annoys me intensely but I still have to listen
I think there is a possibility that we obsess about TA in a way that most listeners don't

If this is you (genuine quotes from earlier threads), or you're new and want to ask anything about The Archers, then this is the right place.

PseudoBadger started it, but we're going to finish it (er, will TA ever finish?)

The panto is meant to be Sleeping Beauty, but are you expecting farce (Mother Goose Pip) or tragedy (Puss Cat in Wedding Dress Boots )?

This should see us through to Christmas. Xmas Smile Archers

At the end of the last thread we were remembering recent successful marriages in Ambridge. How long ago was Ed & Emma?

Terrible SL .

Guessing,as suggested , that it'll be something to do with
testifying agst Justin
getting ripped off by Justin
getting back with Matt ( here's hoping ! )

I do wish The Archers would get its mo jo back .

WineAndTiramisu · 22/12/2017 21:57

Whoever was asking about the sale of the Dower house, Lillian got the money, she mentioned it when she offered £50k to repay Christine for what she lost in the horse scam when it first came out.

No big surprise that the wedding didn't go ahead, but what's Justin playing at long term?

Minimammoth · 23/12/2017 05:51

He’s a baddy, boo hiss. < getting all pantomime>

Bekabeech · 23/12/2017 06:29

Just check d the Lowfield transcripts. The money Lilian offered Christine was "money Matt gave her" not specifically from the sale of the Dower House. So part of they money he kept giving her to pay back what he stole.

It’s utterly ludicrous. And if I wasn’t a hopeless addict i’d Never listen to it again.

EsmesBees · 23/12/2017 07:39

Yep, that rather sums it up here too Bertrand

Bekabeech · 23/12/2017 07:44

Oooh on the Husband -Wives thing it's very complex, but Lilian could probably be compelled either way on Attempted Murder (1984 Criminal Evidence act) but maybe not as a wife for fraud. And in the US it's even more complex. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spousal_privilege
But if there was an underlying fraud it could be in Justin's interest to remain unmarried (just as it was for Matt).

Snap!

What a letdown. Makes no sense at all either. In business, people follow up verbal agreements with written contracts to make sure there is clarity of expectations and legally enforceable rights and obligations. Someone of Justin's mindset would probably prefer that in his private life too, if he is sincere in wanting to spend the rest of his life with Lilian. This makes me think he isn't. Far easier to get rid of her now when he's tired of her.

If this is supposed to be a lifelong commitment, someone should point out to the two of them the inheritance tax consequences of this decision, which are considerable. Can't see Justin thinking that of no account either. I wonder what he'll do about his will.

And finally, I know it's very unlikely that a hospital would refuse to accept Lilian as Justin's next of kin and vice versa, but at their age it's not a risk I'd want to take.

"If you have been affected by Archers disappointment help and support is available on this thread."

R4 · 23/12/2017 08:11

Justin and Lilian can sort out the will by relevant paperwork. They can sort out Next of Kin by relevant paperwork. They can sort out pension rights by relevant paperwork. Etc etc etc. Or they could have got married and sorted it all out by a single signature on the wedding register.
For a man trying to avoid paperwork, Justin is going about it the wrong way.
Unless the plan was also to avoid the obligations.Hmm

BitOutOfPractice · 23/12/2017 08:16

I've just listened to yesterday's and that has to be the most disappointing, non-sebsivsl, unbelievable outcome ever. I think the SW are stretching our loyalty to the limits now

R4 · 23/12/2017 08:21

non-sebsivsl

There speaks a listener at the end of their tether.Grin

birdsdestiny · 23/12/2017 08:25

Justin will more than likely turn out to be a baddie as that seems to be Lillians punishment for not being a traditional ambridge wife. However as yet he has not scammed thousands from elderly neighbours, financially abused her, been a homophobic bully, etc etc. I still don't understand the cheerleading for Matt and Lillian.

Imbroglio · 23/12/2017 09:30

What was Ralph Bellamy like?

I agree about Matt - please let's not go back there. And I am also convinced Justin is a bad 'un. I think Lilian knew this in her heart when she refused to sign Amside over to him.

I don't have much time for Lilian, though. She's always turned a blind eye to the damage her partners have done to others and thinks only of her own pleasure. Her son is the unclassy product of his upbringing.

extinctspecies · 23/12/2017 09:40

Does anyone buy the line that he luffs her? And that's why he doesn't want to get married ....

C8H10N4O2 · 23/12/2017 09:47

For the first time, I actually agreed with Toe-bee

Oh gods yes - she really is obnoxious.

if I wasn’t a hopeless addict i’d Never listen to it again

Here also, I'm convinced TA is only sustained by us. Great thread title.

In fact a lot of the recent stuff puts me in mind of - perhaps it should be remade with LSWs and Listeners as protagonists

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 23/12/2017 12:38

I have just read about the pantomime currently being performed in Barrow-In-Furness.

It is Sleeping Beauty

The actress* playing Bad Fairy Scarabosse has been led away in handcuffs by police for allegedly using cocaine during rehearsals and performances.

How I wish this would happen in Ambridge! Can you just imagine a coked-up Lynda? Xmas Grin Xmas Grin [fgin]

birdsdestiny · 23/12/2017 15:56

We would all be whinging about unrealistic storylines if that happened in TA.

birdsdestiny · 23/12/2017 16:00

I would quite like an episode with adam on coke though.

DadDadDad · 23/12/2017 16:02

Bore - were you hoping for a smiley of a bottle of gin with a santa's hat? Xmas Hmm

Xmas Grin

Thinking of the massively irritating Pip, again she flounced out of a conversation she started - how many more eps will have saying: I can't deal with this.? Also she's pretty high-handed with Toby when she still hasn't told the family she is so sure will carry her every step of the way support her in her decision.

And Brine's "Lillian....has to do things her way" was dripping with crap dramatic irony. Should have replaced the closing signature tune with some 50s film score...dah ,dah, DAAAAAAAH.

outputgap · 23/12/2017 19:51

I'm unlurking to say what the actual fuck was that shambles? And I mean both stupid, drawn on with crayon storylines.

outputgap · 23/12/2017 19:55

I need to be able to suspend disbelief, so it needs to be vaguely reasonable.
I love the Archers so I'm very vexed at it being actually ruined.
I prefer the geese going on the run and Peggy being a grumpy old cow.
