The Archers: The Crook, the Vet, His Wife & Her Lodger - discussion #80

In full acknowledgement of PseudoBadger's great achievement in providing the previous 79 threads over the past 4 years (and credit to R4 for this thread's title)...

Discuss TA (The Archers). New posters encouraged - it's not (too) cliquey here and plenty of regulars are happy to answer questions. Archers

One rule: no spoilers (ie no mentioning future plot teasers from Radio Times listings etc) - there's a separate thread for that.

So, is Phoebe pregnant? will Anisha dob in (dobbin - geddit?) Alistair?

PS I don't presume to take on PB's role permanently - hopefully the job of starting new threads will rotate among regulars until she returns

I don't think she's too perfect Anti she has picked fights with her boss's mother fgs. and is deliberately entering her Banitsa into the F&P show to annoy her.

Oh sorry Blush I made a boob with the title of the Farming Programme on BBC2 7pm during the week it's called This Farming Life and it's REAL!! I had to turn over sometimes it's so gruesome!

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/09/2017 12:09

And who will step forward to be the surrogate mum for Ian'n'Adam?

Imbroglio · 16/09/2017 12:16

I hope we won't get a Helen-volunteers-to-be-surrogate-then-changes-her-mind-when-baby-is-born story.

Maybe they'll pay Emma?

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2017 12:20

That is the $100,000 question Bore Helen did raise it didn't she?

Imbroglio · 16/09/2017 12:40

I can imagine Kate offering!

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/09/2017 12:44

It would actually make sense if Ian is father. and one of Adam's half-sisters is the mum. Gives Adam some genetic investment too.

So, Kate? Alice? Debbie?

Or will they adopt Phoebe's half-Bulgarian baby ( the crystal ball is of the opinion that she is upduffed, despite MAP)

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2017 13:00

Only Kate has the proven fertility. I was amazed about her conversation with Ian about her brilliant mothering Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/09/2017 13:01

I thought her period had come?

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2017 13:13

Yes Feebs said it had .But as you know some of us suffer from extreme imaginations wishful thinking on this thread Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/09/2017 13:17

I was really angry with Helen planting and then watering and feeding that seed of doubt in Ian's mind about adoption not being right for him.

I really hope the storyline is not paying Emma to be a surrogate.

TheAntiBoop · 16/09/2017 13:53

It's all a bit 'Ho Ho, let's all laugh at jenny'

Re surrogacy - isn't it a bit daft to pay someone you know. And Helen doesn't have the best pregnancies so wouldn't be very nice to expect her to do it.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/09/2017 14:06

I will be so cross if they go down the surrogate rather than adoption storyline.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/09/2017 14:11

Me too. I think it is really pathetic to go within 24 hours from Ian's "oh all the sadness of these children needing a family and I can help" angle to the "I want a baby, I WANT MY BABY" just because Helen dripped poison in his ear.

BertrandRussell · 16/09/2017 15:14

But it's a baby Ian wants- he always has. The adoption thing was really implausible- he only went along with it because he thought that was all Adam would do. But the Surrogacy Fairy will sort it out...

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/09/2017 15:21

Yes but he had reconciled himself to a realistic and ethical solution which is dumped with no qualms within 24 hours

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2017 17:33

Then Helen shouldn't have mentioned it. Anti I'm in the adoption camp. I know it's not easy.

TheAntiBoop · 16/09/2017 17:53

I think adoption would be better as then also there's no argument as to who the genetic parent should be.

I think there's ethical issues around surrogacy but I'm not sure the archers need to explore it!

Bekabeech · 16/09/2017 18:19

I really didn't like the way Ian said he'd be the sperm donor, Adam shouldn't worry. I don't think he wants a child with Adam as much as his own child.

ppeatfruit · 17/09/2017 09:15

Beka there has to be ONE sperm doesn't there? I suppose one could have twins in a test tube each with sperm from the different partner. It sounds like sci fi but maybe you could pay for it in some country or another!! Or one baby, then another later with the other partner's sperm if you have a kind, poor surrogate!

Bekabeech · 17/09/2017 09:41

ppeatfruit - but it was the total lack of discussion, and making sure it wasn't discussed.

ppeatfruit · 17/09/2017 10:08

Aaaah I just heard on the omnibus that "Tash' is leaving GG to go to work with the Duxford sisters so there'll be a space for, dada…… Lexi!!! Grin

JoeGrundyIsMyR0leModel · 17/09/2017 18:27

According to Wikipedia, Banitsa is served for breakfast with Boza - a fermented malt drink. Maybe Lexi is going to show the sausage king how to run a business.

RolfNotRudolf · 17/09/2017 20:34

Has Jenny always been such an overt snob?

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2017 22:10

"Has Jenny always been such an overt snob?"

No. we're losing sophisticated characterization. Jenny can be a bit daft sonetimes, but her instincts have always been sound.

EBearhug · 18/09/2017 00:16

Banitsa is mostly cheese and filo pastry. They mentioned walnuts, and there's some Bulgarian cake beginning with G, but I can't remember now.
