Phoebe will probably be a lot wealthier than a lot of students there if you look at her grandparents - landowners!. It would be really lazy stereotyping if they imply to fit in you need to be titled and independently wealthy.

ppeatfruit · 04/07/2017 10:35

Well Feebs is rebelling, she IS a teenager fgs , she's just giving Roy a hard time it's normal. They'd all be staying at home knitting cardies their whole lives if they didn't make themselves difficult to live wouldn't they?

SingingAvocado · 04/07/2017 15:02

You'd have thought it could have been Alice's treat … but then we wouldn't have a story!

Cromwell1536 · 04/07/2017 17:44

well, I think Feebs has had a personality transplant. Uptight and self-involved before going off to Oxford, yes, but basically a nice, down-to-earth, normal young woman. Now she's morphed into Teenzilla, with a touch of Pip (as in Great Expectations, snob, not That Pip - spare us!) Seems there's something in the Ambridge water that renders the village yoof insupportable.

Gruach · 04/07/2017 19:11

Oooh ... Wonder what it is?

And WHY in god's name are only men good enough to look after Ruairi's interests? (I know someone's already asked this ...)

BertrandRussell · 04/07/2017 19:19

Here's we go. Another personality transplant.

TeenAndTween · 04/07/2017 19:49

But they did get it right re part time working whilst at Oxford.
I quote: Term-time employment is not permitted except under exceptional circumstances and in consultation with your tutor and senior tutor

Fink · 04/07/2017 21:58

Yes, but most 'normal' Oxford students do work at least part time during the (very) long vac. Including as fruit pickers and chamber maids. There's not that much reading, she was massively over-egging it there.

mummytime · 04/07/2017 22:07

Oxford terms are very short and intense which is why working is not allowed. But lots of people work in the vacations and the short terms help.

TeenAndTween · 04/07/2017 22:16

I was surprised by the amount of reading she said she has. But maybe she is keen and PPE will definitely have more reading than my maths degree!
However, I agree she should have been planning to work over the summer. I bet there are some great companies she could have worked for in Brum, staying with Hayley.

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/07/2017 22:33

The amount of reading varies with subject presumably. A friend's son did English at Cambridge & his vacation reading list was about 4 sides of A4 (closely typed) but I can't imagine PPE is anything like that.
Jennifer taken for a mug really (but it's not as if Home Farm can't afford it)

BertrandRussell · 04/07/2017 22:37

She was just playing Jennifer for a mug. And she was foul to Roy when he suggested getting her a job at Grey Gables. Completely out of character.

Cromwell1536 · 04/07/2017 22:39

There is quite a realistic, and possibly sympathetic, story line here, with Feebs feeling under a huge amount of pressure to excel and continue being the academic superstar. I can well believe that she might think, "oh my god, I have so much work. And on top of that, there's this addiitonal pressure to have a fantastic summer of travel and top Instagramming," and therefore wig out a bit. But the writing is setting her up as a spoilt (when we know she hasn't been) manipulative madam, turning her nose up at perfectly acceptable work opportunities and wheedling money from her wealthy 'Granny'. So it's just weird.

Isadora2007 · 04/07/2017 22:46

I haven't looked back very far as my phone is being rubbish, but have other people spotted the Vet from TA is in Ackley Bridge?
And I can't bear seeing the actors who voice them IRL as they don't look like I imagine them to. 🙈

RubyRoseRing · 04/07/2017 23:44

l was surprised that Feebs wanted to buy a newspaper. can't she just read online like all the other teenagers.Smile

Gruach · 05/07/2017 00:07

Or my octogenarian mother. (It's always so cool when hotel receptionists ask if she would like a newspaper in the morning and she nonchalantly replies "No thanks, I've got my iPad.")

Or middle aged me, in fact. The only, only thing that's better on huge sheets of paper is the weekend FT - but I just cannot face the piles of recycling any more.

JennyWoodentop · 05/07/2017 00:50

No interest in cricket at all, but if they have a vote of no confidence and get rid of Harrison as captain, then who will do it? I thought he ended up doing it because no one else wanted to or had time to do it - I would laugh if they vote one of the women in as captain though, for the pure joy of annoying whining Will - seriously, what does he hope to achieve with this?

  • note, I think a female captain is absolutely fine, it's just none of the current gang have the experience to do it, it would be great if they did
Fink · 05/07/2017 06:33

I thought that about the no con vote. Harrison was practically forced into the role by being one of three people who turned up for the AGM, the others being the outgoing captain and possibly a previous captain(?) I can't actually remember who the third one was - Adam? Will doesn't seem to have planned beyond getting rid of Harrison, unless he wants to do it himself, but it seems liked they're portraying him as exactly the sort of incompetent fool who would stage a coup with no future planning.

What was the lie Harrison's been found out for anyway? I was on holiday last week and missed a few days. Was it to do with that pretend phone call from Edgley last year?

EBearhug · 05/07/2017 08:35

Yes - he said he'd had a letter from the Darrington captain saying they'd consider a merger, and no such letter ever existed.

No one has yer asked Will why he was talking to the Darrington captain.

Harrison has mostly done an okay job, I think. He should apologise for lying, and Will should get chucked out for being divisive and sexist and no sort of team player. Will is hoping to be seen as a hero for this, and to get rid of the women, but certainly the former isn't going to happen.

TeenAndTween · 05/07/2017 08:42

I'm rather hoping they elect a woman as captain too....

They'll do a no confidence vote and the women and some men will back Harrison I would have thought. Even if he loses and say Adam/Neil/Chris is elected captain they'll still keep the women in the team as they haven't got enough men. Will won't get elected.

ppeatfruit · 05/07/2017 09:22

Lucky Feebs! What are grannies for?!! Though Jenny's attitude towards her doing a picking job (which she did say she'd do) was unpleasant.

AberdeenAngusina · 05/07/2017 11:18

Wasn't there something about Will's attendance at cricket practice being patchy, owing to work commitments? I don't remember Harrison being keen to be captain in the first place. What if he's forced out and no-one is willing to take over? Won't Will be obliged to be the next captain?

EBearhug · 05/07/2017 11:45

No one in their right mind would elect Will as captain.

ppeatfruit · 05/07/2017 12:43

Anisha for captain!
