So many possibilities.... A visit from the Titcheners Snr? Baby of the wrong gender? A ruined wedding? Re-housed Grundys? RuthRex?

But Rob comes from farming stock, doesn't he?

I am still utterly gobsmacked by Jennifer. Of all the personality transplants, I think that is without doubt the most bizarre.

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2015 10:27

And hunting most definitely doesn't make you a baddie in TA- Alice hunts. Lizzie used to. Shula does, Oliver and Caroline do. In fact the Bridge Farm lot are the only significant family who are anti, surely?

LillianGish · 28/11/2015 10:30

I don't think it's so much that he doesn't know these things as that he doesn't care. He just thinks of it as poetic license and hopes no one will notice or will just let it pass for the sake of his marvellous plotting. What he doesn't seem to understand (and everyone else on the programme seems to be too scared to tell him) is that the Archers is not about the plot it's about the characters who he is systematically destroying.

CuttedUpPear · 28/11/2015 10:31

I'm feeling so glad that I can't listen atm.
Reading the thread though, with distaste!
Well done you lot for keeping on listening.

dairyfarmerswife · 28/11/2015 10:49

DFW just a polite reminder that it's LYNDA, with a Y [sniff]

enochroot · 28/11/2015 10:52

I meant Pat and Jennifer as intelligent women.
I didn't mean Helen!

enochroot · 28/11/2015 10:59

It could be argued that Helen is more able than Rob though. When asked to talk to the public at the open farm thing she did better than him. She understands her own particular world of retailing better than him. She probably knows more about farming than him.
He messes up everything he does but is good at putting up smoke and mirrors.

Well, the next thread shouldn't credit the SW with subtlety; from here on in it's the hoof of the panto horse we hear.

I'm now v annoyed. I loved that characters were subtle and complex and could surprise you but in delightful, small details. For years, Jill was a bit of a cipher, a great cook, mother, grandmother...after Phil died, we heard her reveal elements of herself in her anti hunting feeling, and slightly spiky teasing. Caroline, as godmother to Will, & Oliver as mentor/patron to Ed, had a long & warm relationship with the Grundy family that survived Joe's fall and a 9 month stay at Grey Gables.
It's not a story like Corrie or Eastenders were the characters are frequently screaming 'you're barred!' & besties a fortnight later. Life's not really like that, is it? I still hear tension between Usha & Shula, but I shouldn't need it spelled out if I'm a new listener in the last 5 years, because real life has tensions that tug and threads that bind, and as a radio listener, I'm likely able to pick up on it without a galumphing great explanation (that rewrites history)...
Rant over.
I find listening to the film quite enlightening as it's much easier to pick out threads BUT that wasn't the original purpose of the omnibus; it was a catchup device. Now I'm worried that, as previously theorised, it will become the means of losing the daily episode Sad. I enjoy the rhythm of TA daily life moving with my daily life, which is why the 1-event-over-many-episodes didn't work for me.

80sWaistcoat · 28/11/2015 11:40

I think last nights episode which I've just listened to was a new low. I don't recognise the characters anymore, like so many on here I'm staring at the radio in disbelief.

ItchyArmpits · 28/11/2015 11:53

I'm confused - wasn't the extra scan booked in for yesterday (Friday)? So... would that make it a possibility that Helen didn't get to the ball because it showed she is having a girl and Knob beat her up??? Or are my dates wrong?

PseudoBadger · 28/11/2015 12:03

I'm off out for a posh lunch and to get pissed afterwards so I'm going to start the next thread early in a minute.

OP posts:
DadDadDad · 28/11/2015 12:04

That's a very good point, itchy. If the scan revealed it is a boy, then Rob would surely be crowing about that. If a girl, then there must have been a tense scene where Rob told Helen how much he cares while making it obvious that he is disappointed. Why have the unusual scenario of an extra 16 week scan and then not depict the outcome?

Or is the scan next week?

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 28/11/2015 12:24

Has no one got pissed and said something they regret for then? Jenny is not usually a hard drinking type like Lil. She'll be dead for 2 days with the hangover that's for sure Grin.

It does seem odd that she's forgotten Stefan. I noticed that JE has not, interesting….

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2015 12:29

"Has no one got pissed and said something they regret for then?"

Absolutely. But Jennifer wouldn't. Just not ever. It is insanely out of character.

Scarydinosaurs · 28/11/2015 12:32

Not impressed the how clumpy it's become.

I thought the scan was next week? Have I got that myddled?

ppeatfruit · 28/11/2015 12:51

I'll politely disagree Bertrand I reckon it could happen to anyone. She's not a teetotaller is she?

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/11/2015 13:18

Yes JD might get pissed & say something she'd regret later.

But not that thing to that person even though he conveniently fed her the 'will this wedding actually happen?' line Hmm

While we're on Lynda, not Linda, can I just mention also that it's Jill, not Gill, & Kathy, not Cathy (haven't seen those 2 very recently but they still pop up from time to time Smile)

GypsyFl0ss · 28/11/2015 13:38

but I would trade the lot for a bit of Tiger and Pusscat

Me too.

Minimammoth · 29/11/2015 15:01

I have just caught up. SadHmmConfusedAngry.

toldmywrath · 29/11/2015 18:14

lillian "Perhaps Joe will die at a service station on the way to his care home" Is keeling over at Keele a possibility (or is that too far north of Ambridge?) Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 30/11/2015 06:14

It might be told. Though he could be taken poorly at Corley which I imagine is more local.

Sorry Blush

Gruach · 30/11/2015 07:39

Why are you lingering here Boop? 150 posts on the new thread. All waiting for you ...

BitOutOfPractice · 30/11/2015 08:47

Blast! This one's on my "threads I'm on" list. I'll scuttle over there now. Though you've all missed my poorly at Corley joke now!
