Sorry but I couldn't resist an opportunity for puns galore Grin

Heather's surname was Pritchard, not very Jewish.
We know an 11yo Soloman who is not Jewish (but they are fundy Bible types I think).

R4 · 03/10/2015 09:26

PrincessF totally agree about the captain coming onto the pitch. It wouldn't happen.

Scarydinosaurs · 03/10/2015 09:57

So painful to listen today. It sounded quite scary when Rob was ranting, and Helen sounded surprised that he was pleased- that struck me as quite stupid, given he's made it patently obvious he wants a baby. However, is she now so shaken in knowing what he wants and guessing his reaction that she is utterly unsure what is going to be met with approval anymore.

Telling Henry, telling Henry it will be a boy and telling Henry not to tell anyone is breaking every rule in the Introducing New Siblings Rulebook.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2015 10:21

Yes true Scarydino And it was pathetic to listen to Helen trying to tell knob that she wanted to tell him carefully, instead of the insensitive effing clodhopping Titchener way.

DadDadDad · 03/10/2015 10:21

Just been reminded of this sweet video. I found it interesting that he never once asked if the baby is a boy or girl.

JessieMcJessie · 03/10/2015 10:24

Bloody soap opera nonsense of one unprotected shag and bingo! A baby. Conceived by a woman in her late 30s with an eating disorder. I'm off back to the TTC boards, where I have been only slightly less time than on this thread..

enochroot · 03/10/2015 10:31

I want someone - Tony, Adam, Charlie, Alastair, Tom - to point out to Johnny that there's another way to play.
Rob's turning Henry into a clone of himself but I hope Johnny can be rescued from knobbishness.

R4 · 03/10/2015 10:34

Aw, that's sweet D^3. He's seems a genuinely nice lad.
Dunno why she told him while he was strapped in, though. It would have been good to finish the news with a mum/son cuddle.

Northernlurker · 03/10/2015 10:54

No Jessie it's NOT unrealistic. As far as we know Helen is a normal weight now, Rob was particular about the date he picked - I mean who has a secret seduction night on a Thursday Hmm - so clearly had been tracking her cycle and I'm afraid there are plenty of people out there who have had one window for conception and it's happened.
I do hope you are successful yourself soon Smile

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2015 11:01

I agree Northern. If you're fertile, you're fertile, everyone's different. I did say that Helen wanted to go upstairs to get her contraception when she was 'forced'.

Gruach · 03/10/2015 11:02

Well. This is No Good.

I've been baking a cake.

Turn on oven

He had no right ...

Butter the tin

Tony: You must have some interviews lined up by now Rob?

Where's the grater?

Rob: Oh well, I think its better I concentrate on helping Helen with the shop.

Is that pale and fluffy enough?

Pat: Actually Rob, we've managed pretty well all these years: there's no need for you to trouble yourself ...

Can't see any seeds in this vanilla ...

Tom: By the way Rob I think I'll take over coaching Johnny from now on. So I can pass on some of what John taught me ...

Fold in dry ingredients.

Rob: That's fine Tom - after all I'll have my own son to coach soon.

That's done! What's the time?

Helen: Rob?

How. Much. More. Can. I. Take?

Cake
Northernlurker · 03/10/2015 11:14

And actually Helen conceived in one try with Henry too because it was the sperm donor/clinic scenario. That, it was argued, WAS unrealistic because she was much closer to being seriously unwell with the ED then.

I've looked back and the rape was 27/08. Assuming Rob had been tracking her cycle and she has a 28 day cycle with 27/08 being day 14 that would make he first day of her LMP 13/08 and so the baby would be due 19th May 2016. This means she is 7 weeks pregnant and has been feeling sick for ten days or so? Which is perfectly normal. What's a bit weirdthough is IF Rob had been tracking her cycle why haven't we heard him saying 'Where is your period darling?'

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2015 11:14

Gruach Don't Sad I'm on the GBBO thread , You have my sympathies Grin Thanks that cake sounds nice . I'm making a veg. curry.

R4 · 03/10/2015 11:32

I don't suppose that Helen was clever enough to be lying? She could use the excuse of the pregnancy and 'I might lose it' to fend off Rob's advances for several months.

Minimammoth · 03/10/2015 11:45

I can't bear it. The whole bridge farm Archer family must have succumbed to some kind of alien abductionand have been replaced. They are replicants.
All out of character. Gerry.
And Ruth, don't get me started.
I am abandoning listening and will follow thread instead.

R4 · 03/10/2015 11:50

Who is Gerry. Is he related to Alex?

JessieMcJessie · 03/10/2015 12:10

Actually even an entirely healthy young couple have only a 25%chance of conceiving every month so, with the greatest of respect "if you're fertile you're fertile" does not mean you will automatically conceive just by having correctly-timed sex ppeat.

tibbawyrots · 03/10/2015 12:15

I listened this morning. I went cold when Rob started shouting and then Heldn told him she is pg. I also thought the convo through the bathroom door was odd too, "I'm not expecting anyone so it will be for you" - in other words come and open the door yourself. If anyone tries to talk to me when I'm in the bathroom I certainly don't get into conversation with them!

Ruth is annoying me too.

Dumdedumdedum · 03/10/2015 12:18

Davros - Solly, short for Solomon. Solomon Grundy. Are the two related?

Minimammoth · 03/10/2015 12:35

Gerry? No that was supposed to be me growling.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 03/10/2015 12:56

Oh dear god - SOK will be born on my birthday Sad

The convo through the bathroom door was definitely a ' get the door yourself' He HATES visitors, every time he comes home and finds Helen has company, he seethes.

Surely Tom has noticed Robs tone?
I am becoming increasingly annoyed by the lack of communication between people re Rob. He is an arse to everyone!

PrincessFiorimonde · 03/10/2015 13:11

Mini and R4 Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/10/2015 13:23

I strongly suspect when they were casting around for a name for Ruth's dad, they'd just been talking not long before about the Grundy family and that had put Solomon into somebody's head. Grin

Solomon Pritchard was not Jewish. We had this discussion several times on the old BBC Archers messageboard and IIRC it was confirmed by Keri Davies that he wasn't.

The famous Solomons on Wikipedia are mostly Jewish or black, but that's no reason the use of the name should be expected only to come from those communities. I see it's the 338th most common boys' name in the UK at the moment.

ItchyArmpit · 03/10/2015 13:38

Won't Pat hit the roof when she hears Knob's "it has to be a boy" chuntering? Is that too much to hope for?

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2015 13:49

Could be twins a boy and a girl Grin Though with the amount of caring support she'd need, (and wouldn't get from shitknob) She'd have to bolt with Henry to live in Brummie with Mike and Vick or somewhere.
