The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

My theory FWIW is that the Tom hiding in the log cabin idea was seen first here - and someone in TA team read it and passed it on in a prod meeting, not realising it was a cynical suggestion from a pissed off listener. And so it went on .... We could have enormous power, if only they'd pay us some more attention. Grin

Remember when Mabel and Aunt Satya were introduced and everyone expected them to be bosom buddies. And they hated each other. The assumptions made by others were quite entertaining really.

unitarian · 30/11/2014 01:43

Topaz. I think you're onto their modus operandi.

The sink hole is a secret underground outpost of GCHQ. Rob is really called Sergei. Charlie is an agent from MI5.

Now let's see if they run with any of that!

JessieMcJessie · 30/11/2014 04:53

Has anyone read the announcement on the BBC website that they will be broadcasting the whole of Lynda's production of Blythe Spirit as part of the Christmas season? Julian Rhind-Tutt will be playing Charles apparently. Wonder how they'll deal with that in TA? Not entirely clear if it will be played as Archers characters doing am dram or properly acted by Carole Boyd et al. I rather like the idea, albeit that it now explains why Lynda suddenly changed heart about the production.

florencedombey · 30/11/2014 07:55

Just coming on to the thread to point out that Mumnet mobile is now running a banner ad that says "win a trip to Canada". I haven't checked the small print to see if there's a full body transplant thrown in.

To change the subject. I thought the discussion about nicotinoids, with Charlie,Adam and Todd extremely interesting; TA don't usually go into details about the spraying that goes on with monotonous regularity at Home Farm.

In this area of Fr. they've stopped spraying all the verges and stopped nicots. completely; thus trying to save the degradation of the environment notice they don't mention THAT. Grin

cheminotte · 30/11/2014 09:07

Who is Julian R-T? Does he play an existing character in the Archers?

JessieMcJessie · 30/11/2014 09:11

He's a rather good youngish British actor, you'd know his face probably, ginger and slightly ugly; often plays posh types and does a lot of voiceover work. Was in Green Wing with Tamsin "Debbie Aldridge" Greig. Not in TA.

Panzee · 30/11/2014 09:14

"Slightly ugly"?

Shock :o

The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.
Bluestocking · 30/11/2014 09:17

One woman's slightly ugly is another woman's deliciously joli-laid.

JessieMcJessie · 30/11/2014 09:24

Oh I'd be very jolly if he laid me BluestockingGrin. He's not a pretty boy in the mould of, say, Eddie Redmayne or Rupert Friend.

ppeatfruit · 30/11/2014 09:35

He was in Notting Hill wasn't he ? Or 4 weddings or something . Agree jessieGrin

LillianGish · 30/11/2014 09:44

Is he going to play Charles and how will they work that in? A friend of Lynda's from her Sunningdale days? An interloper from FLOS (unlikely)? A random AI man, health and safety inspector or waiter or customer in the village shop who Lynda claps eyes on and immediately casts in the part? Actually I was just musing how funny it would have been if she'd only cast the characters who communicate through the medium of mime (which nowadays seems to be more and more of them - in fact we should get DDD to do some stats on how many lines the random bit parts get to say compared with those listed on the official cast list).

JessieMcJessie · 30/11/2014 09:53

Lilian I believe that one year the Christmas Show was indeed cast entirely with non-speaking characters. Here's the link to the bbc Blithe Spirit article. Interesting that it dosn't mention Louiza Patikas so I wonder if Helen's part will be recast in TA due to the Tony situation?

www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thearchers/posts/Blithe-Spirit

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/11/2014 09:59

They will probably do it pet shop boys stylee. He will call Lynda as himself saying that he's heard she's doing blithe spirit an he's always wanted to play Charles. Like in a totally plausible way

Apparently the play will stand on its own so this strikes me as a way to get more listeners for their Boxing Day drama (or whenever they're doing it). Makes sense why the characters in the play that have been chosen have been chosen as they have picked the best actors. Still totally implausible to me that Helen hasn't pulled out as she has rather more important things to worry about.

JessieMcJessie · 30/11/2014 10:08

I wonder if he'll play Coriander's husband Justin? They have to come early for Christmas due to a flood in their own house or something and so he gets roped into rehearsals? Or maybe Richard Thwaite?

I really hope that they don't stretch credulity by having a TA storyline in which JRT plays himself playing Charles.

Suppose it could be done fairly easily by just making reference to casting "that nice young chap Simon who just moved into Glebelands" and his being treated as a silent during any rehearsal/build up/after party scenes.

Icimoi · 30/11/2014 10:15

The solids should are going to hit the fan quite satisfactorily when Brine and Adam discover that Brookfield is off the market and why. I can't imagine that people like JennyD and Pat are going to be too impressed, let alone Lynda. With any luck the Dopeys will become village pariahs.

stilllearnin · 30/11/2014 10:17

I have seen Julian RT - the Green Wing cast used to get the same tube as me. He is completely stunning and I nearly stopped breathing - plus I am not that type!

stilllearnin · 30/11/2014 10:20

Oh my DP does not agree! He was looking over my shoulder! Blush

CuttedUpPear · 30/11/2014 10:22

florence here's hoping that Charlie wins that trip to Canada.
(Although I quite like his evilness).

Maybe it's Tom's return ticket they are giving away?

ppeatfruit · 30/11/2014 10:26

David has told Brine about the higher offer from RB\Demara and it looks like D & R are saying they're accepting it 'for the children'.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 30/11/2014 10:28

My aunt was J R-T's mum's best friend. I've never met him though Sad

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/11/2014 10:44

Just listening to David revealing the offer. God they sound greedy and smug. So not like the characters I know!!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/11/2014 11:02

And new Tom sounds a couple of years older than johnny - not almost 20 years

And carol is so annoyingly smug

unitarian · 30/11/2014 11:15

Peggy giving advice on how the farm should be run - again, still.
