For me, that describes Ed. Some strange people think that it describes Jazzer.
Does it matter what they look like? We know and love their voices (except you Pip)

or food poisoning. Wouldn't that be a hoot, everyone at Jenny Dear's Big Bash spend evening sicking up! Ed will be only one with legs to still drive a tractor much less a Combine.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/08/2014 20:03

I hope Charlie gets botulism.

Hakluyt · 01/08/2014 20:39

I'm amazed that Adam told Charlie Ed was driving. Apart from it being mean it was also stupid. It would have been much better for him to say he screwed up than that he let somebody unqualified drive the combine.

PseudoBadger · 01/08/2014 20:47

I'm afraid botulism is unlikely :(

Selks · 01/08/2014 20:59

Charlie is a cad. I'm surprised that Adam tolerated his outburst.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/08/2014 21:02

I saw a crappy US film/detective series once where there were a lot of cases of botulism which were eventually traced to a mobile catering van selling home-made piccalilli or some US equivalent with hot dogs. Now, I know sod all about Babette's Feast but might it feature something similar?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/08/2014 21:05

Wikipedia confirms my dim memory, amazingly enough.

Improperly preserved food is the most common cause of food-borne botulism. Fish that has been pickled without the salinity or acidity of brine that contains acetic acid and high sodium levels, as well as smoked fish stored at too high a temperature, presents a risk, as does improperly canned food. Infants under one year should not be fed honey, a natural source of botulinum bacteria, as bacteria in the gut are not sufficiently developed.

Foodborne botulism results from contaminated food in which C. botulinum spores have been allowed to germinate in low-oxygen conditions. This typically occurs in home-canned food substances and fermented uncooked dishes. Given that multiple people often consume food from the same source, it is common for more than a single person to be affected simultaneously. Symptoms usually appear 12–36 hours after eating, but can also appear within 2 hours to 10 days.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/08/2014 21:07

I don't get why they all meekly roll over and let Charlie tickle their tummy.

Lucky guess not a sw unfortunately!

My other guess was going to be Charlie demanding Adam show him a little lurve in apology for the combine problem

Ultimately it doesn't matter who was behind the wheel - the buck stops with Adam.

My old boss always took the brunt because as far as he was concerned any mistakes we made should have been stopped/picked up by him

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/08/2014 21:22

Although - as JMcJ predicts - it will be the vomitous pickers who bring down the great English kitchen party.

Totally unrealistic anyway, why would Jenny agree to harbour D&V? Particularly with Ruairi at home on hoilday. Surely Adam should have a "sick bay" caravan on site? Or they could have cancelled a booking and used one of the holiday cottages....

R4 · 01/08/2014 21:30

Who owns the combine? Has Home Farm really splashed out half a million pounds on a machine for a contract which might be cancelled in the next few months. Surely you get commitment from your customer before you make a capital purchase like that.
I wish that they would get a business consultant for the SW in addition to the agricultural consultant - their commercial SL at the moment are atrociously unbelievable.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/08/2014 22:19

R4 I think I remember Brian buying the first combine years ago for Home Farm land, before the existence of BL. And then either he or Adam realised that to fully justify the cost they could work on contract for other farms that didn't have such a swish machine. So they started working the Brookfield acres as well.

Thus, when BL was born Home Farm was in a good position to say "give us the contract, we've got a big machine and lots of experience..."

Bluestocking · 02/08/2014 00:01

I've just listened to today's episode. I can tell that the SWs want us to think that Charlie is a horrible, hectoring little twonk, but how did they come up with "you lack strength and depth?"!

Selks · 02/08/2014 01:23

Was that Susan's invite, that Emma found mashed up in Ed's pocket?

Selks · 02/08/2014 01:24

Blue, I know. Bizarre thing to say.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/08/2014 07:24

I think Charlie is about 5'2". Would explain a lot.

Yes, that was the invitation. Poor Susan!

Bluestocking · 02/08/2014 07:31

So what will the denouement of Invitationgate be? Will JD bump into Radio Susan on the morning of the party and mention how much she's looking forward to seeing them all in the Albion? Or will the Carters be the only people in the village who escape death by Albionola?

CuttedUpPear · 02/08/2014 07:33

I've asked this before. ...please please can the next thread title reference the still-married-to-Jess status of Knob?

I don't know how else we can get the SWs attention.

And it is REALLY bugging me.
There is no way that Piggoi and Radio Carter would not be bringing this up...let alone Pat n Tony. Angry

Hakluyt · 02/08/2014 08:14

That really annoys me too. Why hasn't Peggy said anything about it? Or Pat and Tony when they are on their own? It's bizarre!

We are all agreed that Rob didn't actually invite his parents to dinner at all, aren't we?

PseudoBadger · 02/08/2014 08:27

Of course Cutted, I'll do my best.

OP posts:
impomea · 02/08/2014 08:29

I wondered if they had refused to go to dinner because he is still married.

Hakluyt · 02/08/2014 08:37

No, I reckon he didn't invite them. That's why he went upstairs to "phone them".

CuttedUpPear · 02/08/2014 09:13

Bizarre is the word indeed.

And Knob definitely never even invited his parents - if indeed he has any satan's spawn, mwhah hahaha

Thanks Badg! Smile

Bluestocking · 02/08/2014 09:16

The whole thing with no-one mentioning Knob's married status is driving me nuts too. It's such a missed opportunity for an orgy of sanctimonious quavering from Piggoi, self-appointed guardian of the family's moral hygiene.

Hakluyt · 02/08/2014 09:23

I mean, wouldn't Helen be a bit....interested.......&in whether he was getting a divorce any time soon?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/08/2014 09:41

Well when even the continuity people are urging Helen not to be such a sap I think we can safely assume that we are not mistaken in thinking Rob is a scumbag.
